Best – I phone 5 screen saver, 2 for a £1. I had just got the phone and I’m clumsy so just got them till I could get a ” proper ” one but it’s as good as any from a phone shop.

    Worse – anything tool related.

If you ring any of the Animal Charities, especially the RSPCA don’t mention you are even thinking of taking pepper spray.

First thing they do is ask for your contact details.

How about using a personal alarm type thing ? The loud noise may scare the Dog off ?

Guild wheel round Preston, continue on the section past the car dealerships after the docks but stay on the main road where the guild wheel goes over the bridge.

Keep right at the lights towards Blackpool, then first road on right towards Clifton. Pass through Salwick, wharles, roseacre, elswick then head out on the sustrans route towards Blackpool.

If you have an OS map it will be obvious. On that route, after Clifton there is little traffic until elswick and even then it’s not busy. I’ve done it a few times.

I think it would be better for her all round if they will do it as, at the moment, on the 3 days she is not working she simply sits around and potters around the house knowing she has nothing to do whereas if she is ” on call ” she will at least be expecting something to happen rather than knowing she has nothing to do.

They are named drivers on the insurance, it’s not just a blanket policy covering any drivers so they know mums age. It’s only a crappy 02 plate van they insure themselves independently of the charity’s HQ.

Where’s best to view away from traffic jams after

There is normally plenty space on south shore round Harrowside / Lytham road area then you are straight out along the link road back to the M55.

Don’t park on Morrisons or the Retail park as they have time Limits on parking.

I’ve not a clue about monies owed etc but if you are considering holding onto the van to use as leverage, like has been said, get your stuff out of it, block it in or put some kind of steering lock on it.

It may be leased or hired and they may come to get it.

Even if you have 2 keys, there may be others in an office somewhere. My mate bought a Sprinter a few months back ex lease and was given 5 keys to it.

Look for a house locally that’s being done up. It will have scaffolding up and will have pallets on which cement etc has been delivered on 😉

Joking apart, have a ride round your local industrial estate. Most units will have pallets outside that they are getting rid of and may let you take some.

Can’t help with the scaffold planks though.

Anyone can insure a car, you don’t have to be registered keeper.

I used to lease mine and it was registered to the leasing company but I insured it. Don’t discount the value of NCD. a neighbour of mine stopped driving after 30 years as he had retired and didn’t need to commute and his only income was a works pension as he wasn’t old enough to claim state pension so he was saving money not having a car.

When his state pension kicked in, He took up fishing and needed a car to get his tackle about ( behave…. 😀 ) and his insurance was over £1000 as his NCD had lapsed.

Previous he was paying about £225.

No claims normally stands for 2 years before going back to zero. So you can have an insurance ” break ” in your own name but have to reinsure within 2 years to keep the no claims.

    So no road experience.

The intensive courses are just that – intensive and not for everyone. If you have a bad lesson having normal weekly lessons, you can start afresh the week after whereas on an intensive you can’t get away 😉

To me, 40 hours is about right. You wouldn’t start a new job with no training Monday morning and expect to be left totally alone Friday 5pm. That’s what you do with driving.

Make sure that if you pay for 40 hours, you get 40 hours and are not doubled up with another student. Also bear in mind that out of those 40 hours, at least 2 hours will be alloted to test.

If there are terms and conditions, read them carefully. On some, if the instructor feels you are not ready for test you will lose the £62 fee.

Have you done your theory yet ?

DVSA average for a learner from complete beginner to test standard is about 44 hours.

Have you any driving experience ?

I’ve not read the links etc but my knowledge of Lymes comes from one of my neighbours, a lady who has lived nearby for about 15 years.

She had all kinds of health issues and no one believed her, GP kept doing tests coming back negative, hospital same, put a real strain on her marriage and the kids, everyone thought she was an hypochondriacte (sp)

After private tests, think she went to the states, it was diagnosed and treated. She is loads better now, but the strain on her marriage is still apparent 🙁

Think what the OP means about the servicing is as it has the 100,000 mile warranty, he has to use Vauxhall for the servicing so they may be ripping him off to pay back some of the warranty ?

That lifetime warranty sounds like a load of rubbish to me. A modern car is capable of way more than 100k so it’s hardly lifetime.

Didn’t argue, just paid and ran 😀

I can do all the above in my Escort van but no one wants one of those these days as they are rot boxes so, around the same size, I’d be looking Transit connect LWB, Caddy etc.

Even a ” normal ” Transit or Vivaro, if you go for the smallest, will fit in a normal car park space.

Ive no siblings but shopping with my mate and his missus one weekend after staying at theirs he decided in the middle of Aldi to swing a 4 pint bottle of milk about as I was walking directly behind him.

Deliberate act which caught me straight in the privates. Tears in my eyes for a while after that…. 😯

What’s this not stopping thing ? I thought riding was all about heading for a nice pub lunch or cafe stop 😉

Think I’m more of a pottering tourer type these days.

Can’t stand gels seem to make my teeth sticky and for me, anything from High 5 puts the share index in Andrex up…..

Like has been said, malt loaf, jelly babies etc. Home Bargains and B&M do small flapjacks for about 29p that can easily fit in a pocket.

Reet, logging off to find a pub to cycle to….. 😀

I didn’t see the whole show, but the lads who capsized the lifeboat at Blackpool deserve a medal.

Must have been terrifying being sent flying around by the waves and not knowing if they are going to smash them into the pier structure.

Who in their right mind would want to drive the northern side of the M60?

    Exactly.

I’ve been working in Whalley Range and from mine near Bolton, it’s just as fast going on the Bike than driving.

On a normal 9-5 job, there’s no way I’d go anywhere near Manchester in the car, public transport / cycling is loads easier.

On the other hand, I enjoy driving so became a Driving Instructor. I enjoy riding my bike so became a Bikeability instructor.

Still love Driving, still love riding my bike and get paid for doing both.

I’ve never been in well paid jobs but earn in 2 days now what I earned in 5 days when I was employed.

It’s all potential scenarios we are talking about and I’m not going to speculate what happened with the accident this morning but it’s ok thinking about potentially surviving an impact against one vehicle, but what if that shoves you into other traffic which then causes further impacts ?

Also I was told at college whilst doing motor mechanics that going into 5th gear would get your car moving faster than 1st gear if spinning it on the starter ? Makes sense as 4th gear used to be called direct I.e. 1 – 1 and 5th, and these days 6th gears are overdrives.

First RIP to the lady involved and thoughts with Bregante and colleagues.

I don’t know what I would do but I would definatly get out the car, at least then i could move to one side ( hopefully ) if something did come spinning towards me.

That’s section of the M61 is behind my house. There are no lights and no CCTV and only basic Matrix signs in the central reservation,

A new level of driver impatience yesterday. Approaching a roundabout turning right, a large van came flying up behind us doing about 50 mph and we were in a 30 zone.

So we enter the roundabout only for this clown to overtake us by going round the roundabout the wrong way.

He literally turned right at the roundabout. It was lucky there wasn’t anything coming the other way as it is a blind junction due to trees etc.

Didn’t catch it on the cameras due to the angle we were on the roundabout, but it would have been a good clip.

I’d call a cab, wouldn’t want to be wandering round looking for a black cab on giro night in Blackpool 😉

I couldn’t think of a worst time to be stuck in Blackpool.

Get a taxi or lift to Genting casino north shore ( near the cabin ) or G casino at the sandcastle. The casino at Coral Island may be open but do not go any further past Coral Island along Central Drive, seriously.

Slight hijack but these self serve machines can be a real profit maker.

In Sainsburys, say for example you get one of the lunch meal deals for £3, the till automatically puts the items thorough at full price before discount.

Think it came to £4.25 the other day for me. You then have press the ” go back ” button which then takes the discount off. This is not clear on the screen so it’s easy not to notice.

Fair enough, if you are only going in for a meal deal you know it’s £3 but if you get other items, it’s easy not to notice.
