I’m a Driving Instructor and if you want to be able to ” switch off ” at the end of the day, it’s not easy. Mentally it is, it’s just being mythered all the time.

Ive had text messages at 2 am. If you use the usual advertising ways of these days, Facebook etc, you will never stop being mythered.

Ive got 2 phones now so I can get a break just leave the work one on silent. No one bothers, they will just think you can’t answer as you are teaching.

Someone else has mentioned Parts Driver for Motor Factor, a job I used to do. It was good, got some good customers, got the bonus of being alone in the van for a bit then having a laugh with the other lads when you get back to the depot. If you look after your customers, delivering their stuff with a smile, using common sense by parking a bit away from the doors if the stuff is not heavy so you don’t block customers etc, you will never struggle to have a job done at a good price on your own car. Only reason I left was they stopped being local and went region wide without taking anymore drivers on and the work load was impossible to do within the timeframe.

Yeah, I’ve tried reinstalling Express and it’s not worked

im really useless with computers etc but my laptop is 10 years old running Windows Vista Home Premium, I’m guessing this has been overridden by later Windows

like I said, I’ve a tablet for Internet browsing, Twitter etc and that’s as far as my knowledge goes so I appreciate all your help.

    thanks a lot.

Yeah, I’ve had the touring about 4-5 years now

ive just googled Garmin Express System Requirements and its definatly upto 20 GB disc space.

i mentioned this requirement to the guy in PC World when I was browsing yesterday and he was surprised that Express could potentially use that much space.

I have a front and rear on the car and a front facing on the van.

Love my in-car tech so I’ve gone for Blackvue which can Wi Fi straight to my phone.

After being hit by an uninsured driver years ago, I wanted something to back up my statement if anything happens. That accident years ago, he ran into the back of us so 100 % his fault but it was still a nightmare to sort out so I dread to think how much hassle it would be if liability was being argued.

A lot of those Dashcam You Tubers go out looking for trouble. Most of them don’t display their speed on the footage…….

in terms of installation, I just fitted mine to the windscreen then ran the wires by lifting the roof lining slightly, then down the door rubber, under the passenger seat to the Cig Lighter socket. This won’t work for everyone if the Cig Lighter is on the dash etc.

No to retesting as people will just front it for the test then back to old habits.

    Yes to :-

    more traffic police

    more average speed cameras

CCTV where motorists regularly queue jump / use wrong lanes deliberatly then fine them through the post with the footage e mailed to them.

    Black Boxes for everyone.

Apart from getting more police, these are a lot easier to introduce than create more test centres when the DVSA is struggling to find locations as its is and recruit more examiners as it’s rubbish job.

    People ride WITH other people………

ive one mate who rides and he hasn’t been out for ages but it’s brilliant when he does.

Ive got used to riding alone and it’s my time where I can switch off and just pedal. Love riding on my own.

I’ve just paid £50 for a Gas Fire service and safety check. Last year with another plumber it was £60 so your quote seems about right.

I can’t see what year that one listed is and I think it will be ok off the photo’s, but they were recalled for the forks in 2014

£139 for a repair seems a lot of money.

I got a new windscreen fitted in my Vivaro for £120

id have a ring round the local independent windscreen firms and get an idea of price of repair off them. Think the guy I got my windscreen off does a repair for £40.

If you can get the same, it’s not worth saving £15 in case the insurance does go up.

I hardly moved the MTB over the last few months. A combination of lack of motivation and being bored of riding the same places.

Been using the hybrid, which weighs a ton, but only for 8-9 miles every 2 weeks or so.

Did 37 miles on the hybrid on road and trail paths yesterday and it took me ages compared to what it used to, 4 hours nearly to do the 37 miles.

Threw in a route on the way back with a Steep hill and ended up in lowest gear. Previously have done that stood up in middle ring on front.

Still good to get out again though.

    Couple more I’ve remembered.

A lad I’ve known years is called Hightower. Years after meeting him I found out his name is Chris. No one calls him Chris.

I worked with a bloke called Spoon. Never found out his real name. Apparently it was because he couldn’t help opening his his Gob at work and stirring what other people had said.

My mum is called Doreen. One Xmas, my mates family sent us a card but my mate couldn’t remember my mums name and guessed it was Hazel so the card came and Mum is now Hazel.

Mate who’s  family sent the card, his Mum is Trish so my mum sent a card back and, taking the Micky, called her Brenda. That’s stuck as well.

Pub we used to go in had 2 micks, so one got renamed Bert.

I’ve nicknamed a couple of neighbours up the street Patrick and Pippa as they are just like Victor Meldrews neighbours in one foot in the grave and I proper have to think what their real names are.

another neighbour is a bit of a Del Boy, always pulling some stunt to get some quick cash, he is nicknamed Shifty. Again, I proper have to think of his real name.

look for a Julius K9 IDC Harness, my lab is 32 kgs and I can lift him over fences etc with that harness.

The Police and Security officers use them on their Dogs.

I have a Julius K9 harness on my lab as well as his collar.

The main reason for my Dog having his harness is he is a rescue and despite constant training, he still pulls towards certain people and certain Dogs.

Having the harness means I can hold the handle on it to control him.

I apologise if this has been mentioned it this thread already, but I can’t go through 42 pages to see if it has.

2 features I found useful in the old days were the ” latest reply by ………” Which took you to the end of the thread and the ability to log in from the end of the thread.

I don’t stay logged in as i share my I pad.

Will this features be included again when everything’s up and running ?

    Thanks

1997 VW Polo bought for £1500 about 10 years ago. 50,000 done in it. Refuses to die but it’s at a a stage now where loads of silly stuff is going wrong, dashboard packed in few months back, seat belts don’t retract back, boot won’t open.

Needs a timing belt and clutch slips if you boot it. Time is ticking on it.

2012 Fiesta got in 2014 with 47,000 on it now on 131,000. Needed thermostat housing, wishbone, droplink, it’s on its 3rd starter and it’s going to need it’s 3rd clutch soon.

I can live with it needing clutches etc but if anything big goes wrong, it’s going.

At the moment, any service animal who gets injured or killed will be classed under Criminal Damage. For example, Finn was a 7 years old Dog when he got stabbed so what is he worth in monetary value ? £20 ?

The fact he is a police dog who cost thousands to train wouldn’t be taken into consideration. So. The offender would have been charged with criminal damage worth £20, £30, £40 whatever the court decided Finn was worth.

If the new law does come into force, it will also cover Guide Dogs, Polce Horses etc.

    Some brilliant replies : )

He is a police officer in Herts, PC Dave Wardell, and in 2016 he and his Dog Finn were stabbed detaining a suspect.

There is a campaign to get the law changed as the injuries to Finn were classed as criminal damage. Finn was stabbed through the lung and required life saving surgery.

Dave has written a book about the incident, which is going to be discussed on this morning.

I bet it not the suspension. Fiesta’s do sqeak over speed bumps.

Ive had 5 Mk 7 fiestas and they have all done it. One of them was worse afer changing a headlight bulb so I guessing it’s something moving about under the bonnet.

The entire wishbone will need replacing if it is a bush or balljoint. Mine was clunking over rough surfaces and it cost about £130 fitted,

they are pretty bulletproof. Mines got 130,000 miles on it now and on the suspension, I’ve had that one wishbone and a drop link.

Dont ask about starter motors or clutches though due to the learners…….

We had snow this morning so thought I’d head out to Rivington to get some snow pics.

Jumped on the MTB and the snow stopped. Got to Horwich and it started raining then rained harder and harder.

I was glad to get home as my gore tex gloves had become soaked through

Still glad I got out for a bit

    ? Ehhhhh ? Quizzical face???

Guessing that means they charge a little more for fitting the parts than they would if they were purchased from them.

Years ago I bought a Hope rear wheel from a bike shop who have a price match scheme. I pointed out that their price was well above another local competitors.

OK, I could have gone to the other place, but it bought the bike from this place so thought I’d give them the opportunity to have a bit more custom, they said they couldn’t match the other places price but could do it for £10 extra.

I agreed with them to fit the wheel for me and I would pay that price as, at that time, I had no tools like cassette remover etc.

It was only when I bought a Hope Wheel for the front that I realised they had kept the extra stuff that comes with it, spare spokes, maxle convertor thingy. I didn’t need them, but it annoyed me as that should have been my stuff.

Sorry to hear what has happened OP

I lost a good mate when I was 9 years old, he was 12. Nearly 32 years on, I still think of him when I walk near the place the accident happened.

You have done the right thing by posting on here. STW is fantastic at helping with advice etc

I always try to make myself as visable as possible.

Tonight I saw, within the space of 20 mins, 5 people riding bikes and not one of them had any lights at all. Unbelievable.

I don’t know about the latest ones but the early Transit Customs had issues with the front door locks being twisted with mole grips and the van opening.

I’ve seen a lot of them with lock covers fitted to prevent this.

Thanks for that. Is it a voucher code?

Comes up as a bar code on the app.

I’m reading those terms and conditions 2 ways. Is it motoring and cycling tech that’s excluded, or is it cycling ( everything ) and motoring tech ?

To me, it’s not worded brilliantly

Just found it on the app.

Guessing as it’s a offer that’s only on for a few months is the reason it’s not on the AA website.

These are the Terms of the offer, worth bearing in mind.

    Terms & Conditions:

The voucher entitles you to 10% off in-store at Halfords. Voucher expires 31 March 2018. UK stores only. It cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer, voucher, colleague discount or exchanged for cash. Excludes online use and Click & Collect orders. Excludes Cycling & Motoring Tech such as GPS / Action Cameras / Turbo Trainers / Computers / Fitness Trackers / Sat Nav / Dash Cam. Photocopies not accepted. Halfords Ltd, B98 0DE

Is there a link which says about the AA discount as I’m a member and I’ve never seen Halfords listed and I can’t find any reference to it on the AA Website.

According to the Echo, I was just the one car that caught fire then it spread.

    http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/ex-liverpool-captain-wife-helped-14098763

I’m guessing the car owners won’t be able to claim to claim off the car park as most parking areas have signs saying ” we don’t accept any claims for loss or damages ” or similar.
