    Then read my posts again.

” It’s measurably less conductive, so might not give the same output as a copper cable.”

“…the fact that CCA cables have significantly lower conductivity than OFC. Especially as the lengths get longer…

…unless you’re using long runs and undersized wire, but it cannot carry the same current as OFC for the same cross section, and could result in less power to your speakers.”

The caveats ^^^ are relating to the cross section or cable and amplifier power, but speakers are low impedance so you want your cable to be as low as possible so as not to waste power. There is no ‘Somehow’ and there is a practical reason – power loss.

Cambridge Audio have a balanced view on this; https://www.cambridgeaudio.com/usa/en/blog/speaker-cables

    There we go then. 😁

    ???

I even said that in my first post? You tried to pick holes in a fact, and then went on to agree with my point, after implying that you disagreed with me? I even gave a recommendation for a cable at £1.50/m.

    Odd.

AIUI electricity flows down the outside of a wire, not through its core. It shouldn’t matter I don’t think.

Indeed, but that doesn’t change the fact that CCA cables have significantly lower conductivity than OFC. Especially as the lengths get longer. proper conductors are made of copper, not aluminium.

Will you ever notice a difference? Unlikely, unless you’re using long runs and undersized wire, but it cannot carry the same current as OFC for the same cross section, and could result in less power to your speakers.

I might have missed it, but there’s one reason that I wouldn’t use the Amazon basics cable; It’s Copper Coated Aluminium (CCA), not copper. It’s measurably less conductive, so might not give the same output as a copper cable.

In reality, as has been said over and over, you’ll probably never notice. FWIW, I use ‘Kabeldirect’ cable from Amazon, which is OFC, true to size and well priced.

Should have clarified. It’s how they kill LAB animals (and poultry as well). Can do large scale euthanasia in minutes without injecting each individual animal. There have been studies on rats and mice as to how they react to different gases.

Even the Animal labs are moving away from CO2 euthanasia for ethical reasons (in the UK).It was the typical method small rodent euthanasia in large numbers.

I am not sure its that simple.  there are two drives for breathing low O2 and high CO2.  would this not trigger the low O2 drive and thus give rise to panting attempts to breathe?

It’s certainly not my area of expertise, but my understanding is that’s the build up of CO2 that causes you to breath harder, not a lack of O2. However I’m sure somebody will clarify.

Typically, the CO2 was/is fed in at a low and slowly increasing rate, as a sudden increase in concentration is irritating (like inhaling fizzy drink gas). if the flow rate is low, CO2 intoxication (without irritation) leads to unconsciousness *before* their bodys automatic ‘last gasp’ low O2 reflex kicks in (as TJ rightly described). So death (in small rodents) is a 20-30 min process, with them being unconscious after 5 mins, and being largely unaware of what was happening.

With all that said, it’s now seen as sub optimal method of Euthanasia, with more risks associated to the animal.

Everyone believes their dog is the best. Because they are.

Lost our old spaniel to cancer in 2021. Aside from the obvious grief, he left a MASSIVE dog shaped hole in our life. 6 months later we got another dog, and right up until the day we collected him I felt guilty about ‘replacing’ the old boy. in hindsight, we shouldn’t have waited that long, and the old boy was never replaced, but the hole was filled (and an 8 week old cocker REALLY fills a hole…). Grieve as much as you need to, they’re awesome.

Still miss him like mad, but we’ve now had the two best dogs in the world :)

the term suggested above from another thread is ‘Cash in lieu of repair’.

If it’s really only scratches & a small bump it may be wise to look at polishing the worst of it out and getting the dent pulled. probably won’t be invisible, but may well be perfectly acceptable on an older car. I’ve completely polished out a number of significant scratches on cars that people swore would need a repaint. obviously depends on how deep the scratch is, and whether there is any cracking/flaking etc.

Also, an insurance repair is inevitably more expensive than going to a body shop direct.

Okay, I’ve gone through Multi21s 70/69 pic and I have all the same yellow dots as him (except that damn top robot arm!), so is the bonus one invisible?

Got a pic? It’s possible that the material has shrunk/contracted over time meaning simple re-attachment may not be possible.

it may be best to replace them completely – it can be done with some time/patience but requires some basic tooling that you may or may not have access to, depending on exactly how the scales are formed & attached.

FWIW, I’ve done this a few times, but mainly from scratch. The finish of some factory tangs is awful, or not suited to anything other than mass production.

I make knives, including damascus (layered & cannister) as a hobby.

The issue you’ll find is the amount of time it takes to make a billet, especially a decent sized one. Forged in fire is great, but there are lots of shortcuts & editing going on.

For a decent billet you’re looking at (least) a full day just for the billet if you want an interesting pattern, and that”s assuming you have access to a power hammer/press.

Fun, but a massive time commitment, hence courses are unlikely.

But if it’s gone over that 50% mark you’d be mad surely to take that over the full value of the car?

    er, isn’t that obvious?

    I didn’t suggest that it’s the right thing to do in every circumstance, and even said;

…but if you are 100% sure its only cosmetic and can genuinely be repaired cheaper than your insurance company state, it’s a great option.

in my case I had a very tidy MX5. little financial value on paper, but rare to find in the condition it was in. it’s intrinsic value was much higher than the insurance company thought. £150 in scrap panels and 3 hours work saw it back to pristine.

in some cases it’s a sensible choice, but not all.

    You misunderstand.

    Depends if
    a) it’s not written off
    b) the OP wants the hassle

    a) The car is assessed> insurance tell you their decision> (assuming they want it to be classed as a cat N) you say, “no, cash in Lieu please!”, the car is never written off, no category is attached to the car. you receive a cheque.

    b) the OP asked the question.

I’ve done this when I was driven into (by a police car!) and there was very superficial damage to my bonnet, wing, door and wing mirror. It was a cheap car that I liked and was cheap to repair in about 3 hours with bolt-on panels from a breakers. would have been cat N – but never was.

I’m always surprised more people aren’t aware or use it more.

Ignore most of the above and insist on ‘cash in lieu of repair’. Some advise above is wrong. The car will not be written off, nor have any category attached to it going forward.

Be aware that it’s all on you and you need to be sure of the cost of repairs before you commit to it. it’s not an excuse not to get structural/important repairs done, but if you are 100% sure its only cosmetic and can genuinely be repaired cheaper than your insurance company state, it’s a great option.

I don’t know how this applies if there is structural damage.

Are you sure you’re reading that right?

I’d assume the Y axis is number of viewers, X axis age? That would make a lot of sense, but I don’t know how many views your video has had.

I also wouldn’t assume that all viewers have their correct age entered.

The montane is in most ways the same as teh buffalo. Same fleece style, similar pockets, similar zips etc. comes with a hood, but no waist strap in the pocket.

But it’s not exactly the same. teh cut is slightly different, pockets are slightly different etc etc.

Some people prefer the montane, some the buffalo. Try to try one :)

For more ‘everyday’ use check out the montane extreme smock.

FWIW, I have a buffalo mountain shirt that’s nearly 20 years old, and still love it – I actually think it’s the better of the two. However, the montane is far more invisible everyday.

And I’ll echo, how TF are you wearing it in the summer??

    Berrecloth can talk some crap.

Everything he said pointed to Bren & Bienves runs being top and a 10 year old trick scoring low. The last few sentences were pure arrogance; don’t like it? tough. I know best.

Also agree with team UK that the politics of the digging & sharing lines sucks.

    > Routers are brilliant

But not in the OP’s Tools available list… currently 🙂

    1. No man ever had enough tools :)

    2. a circular saw is not the tool for this job.

    3. See no.1.

I’m actually intrigued to hear from the proper wood-bothers here on the ‘right’ way of doing this.

Rough cut it out (undersize) with a jigsaw, then using a router and a flush trim bit (as well as a straight edge/guide) cut to size. Tidy the little corner radii with a chisel if needed.

    Routers are brilliant.

@Kerley, from Brockenhurst, you can cycle all the way to hythe by literally just crossing about 2 or 3 roads. Into standing hat, Aim for pigbush, cross the Exbury road and end up at Dibden enclosure. Some of the paths are ‘cheeky’ but it’s the New Forest and they are very heavily used/cycled, and almost 100% gravel.

For non-locals, the NF has a truely ridiculous set of bylaws enforced by the verderers that are best ignored. it’s not your typical footpath/bridleway scenario. There are an astonishingly low number of ‘legal’ cycleways, and many that are ‘illegal’ (only to bikes, not horses, horse riders, walkers and local traffic) are 15′ wide gravel tracks.

    (I live in Hythe)

Another vote for thinner better than larger, especially as we age. And 100% agree that ‘normal’ is now massively skewed – the ‘heroin chic’ of the 90s has been totally revered, and skinny people are now being pressured to gain weight. A work colleague really turned his life around a few years ago, started going to the Gym, lost a few stone, and was really in a good place. After one christmas & new year he packed it all in and really went downhill physically and mentally. It turned out that he’d spent the week with his family who made him feel so self conscious about being ‘thin’ that he didn’t think it was worth it!

What is your goal? Gaining fat or gaining muscle? you may need to think about what forms of exercise you do – the more I cycle the ‘skinnier’ I get and peoples advice on lifting weights is very valid.

FWIW, my BMI is around 22.

I bought the rice cooker as a joke for my wife, it’s now used 3-4 times a week.

    DINKWAD Here.

Middle to reasonable income, mortgage will be paid off when we’re 47 (currently 43). We’re off to America for 2 weeks in sep; decided to go last week. do whatever the hell we want, zero guilt/pressure. Planning to retire at 55.

But (and I make no apologies for this!) we’ve never wanted or even contemplated kids. We quickly got bored/sick of our friends child-centric lives/rants/stresses and let them to it. I do miss them, but not what they became. We’re still in touch with a few, and look back at the others with nostalgia.

zero regrets, and we have the most spoiled dog in the world :)

Wait, something destroyed the fins on the exhaust side of your turbo? the fins on the impeller, rather than the VNT fins?

In my mind, that means something came out of your engine, via your exhaust valves. It would have made it’s way in too, and smacked around in the cylinder for a bit. Damaged valve seats is a strong possibiliy, along with damage to the bore/piston or injector nozzle. Any of these would explain the smoke.

It sounds to me like you got paid correctly. If you wanted the full 15 hours OT, then you’d owe them 1.5 hrs of regular time during the second week – how would you plan to make that up?

‘ …as I had stuff to do.’ sounds like a nice flexibility that you have, but that time has to come from somewhere.

I can recommend a lot of the Terrex range – if you want waterproof, you’ll need to go goretex.

How lightweight do you mean? lighter than a big leather boot or proper lightweight?

Firstly, I’m an advocate of diy, but there is one consideration. Garages get very little money for MOTS – they have to be done quickly, and they’re not allowed to remove anything.

So, when they’re checking brake pads, if your wheel/hub combo blocks the view, they’re making a guess at their condition. Equally, they won’t be checking your Aux belt and similar wear items, as they’re not safety related.

That’s assuming you have a good garage that does a proper service, not just an oil change.

Basically a service *shouldn’t* just be an oil & filter change.

I May be missing something here, but a clear acrylic rod painted/coated on the outside would do what you’re asking here? Maybe wrap with Aluminium tape for added reflectivity?

Allow light to pass through – check. Rigid – Check
