I think I’ve been waiting my whole life* for a thread like this. Where should I start:

    – balloons
    – thunder/lightning
    – flying (and any mechanical/unexpected noise on a plane)
    – rats
    – fairground rides
    – champagne corks (popping)

If you do find yourself popping somewhere for a drink I would expect at some point a fairly drunk Finn will make you their best friend for the night. After a few they love to practise their english.

I was put onto this by my friend who’s grandad was one of the merchant navy men. Unfortunately he passed away last year.

Even amongst all the sadness I loved the story about how the RN captain (a barrister on civvy st) of the converted trawler used a times atlas to lead 3 US merchant ships to safety. Spiffing.

I was about to chip in but somebody already mentioned my old company in the second post. I left NSG in 2006 to pursue a career in Automotive.

Reindeer and the shaman of the Sami people are quite partial to this mushroom I spotted on my way home from work. Fortunately had my camera with me to fire of a couple of snaps.

You could easily do it for <10k. Depends where you want to spend the money.

We (well in laws) admittedly spent more than that in June but we had 110 guests.

    Some ideas:
[*]Our two biggest costs by a mile were venue and food. We have been to weddings where instead of a sit down meal a hog roast was provided which was perfectly good. That could save dosh. Venue wise, if you’re willing to be flexible on dates then could try booking a cancellation slot.
    [/*]
[*]Booze – if you go to a venue try to find somewhere with a corkage allowance and buy your own. Aldi champagne – £13, Prosecco £7 for reception and speeches. Our table wine was actually more expensive than the sparkly as we got from a vineyard in france we have visited. We also didn’t offer a free bar.[/*]
[*]Flowers – see if you can get a wholesalers to buy direct from – should be better price than florists. We did ours for about £400 and arranged them ourselves the day before. Took a few hours with bridesmaids helping[/*]
[*]Dress – i’m no expert but my wife’s dress was fantastic. She found it for £25 in a charity shop (shame she also bought £700 dress but decided at last minute she preferred her £25 back-up!)[/*]

    Hope it helps!

You sure it not the ALL needs sorting instead?

*Disclaimer – no medical expertise here, just became intrigued by the article as my mates has had his ACL operated on a few times now so I had passed it onto him.

Niinisalo in western Finland – camped for a few days in -30 during a cold spell whilst the weather in Lapland got so cold power lines froze. Well I say camping but fortunately our tents we’re equipped with portable wood burning stoves and the sleeping bags were awesome – when we got to use them!

Like others say the cold is a dry cold not the humid type experienced here and as such you don’t feel like you get chilled to the bone when you’re well wrapped up.

Always knew I did and now have a two year old daughter who amazes me every day with her character, fun and development. Had some real highs and lows (especially when she has been ill) and even though I really wanted kids I admit it took me a fair while to properly get into father mode (my character has become less selfish, not that I was massively selfish before).

I really can’t say whether you should or not but for me it has been one of life’s massive positives!

Lark lane FTW – stones throw from sefton park, great bars and restaurants (Keith’s wine bar is ace). Met my wife there, well she was a lettings agent and showed me round a flat off lark lane and the rest is history!

Other areas to consider are Allerton, Mossley Hill and Penny Lane.

She should have an excellent time!

I’ve been happy with my Lumia 920. It’s in a different league to N97 which I also owned. The camera on the 1020 is something else, I would consider it as my upgrade but might keep the 920 for longer.
    Good points:
    Display
    Design – hardware and software
OS Speed (Metro is really fast)
Camera – though I think the Nokia N8 was better the 920 is still good and night time shots are impressive
    Not so good points:
Bluetooth profiles – It’s got better but I still cant connect my bt hrm to the phone – connects to cars etc fine.
Apps – there is still a lag between development for IoS and Android and WP but its getting there. You should be able to get what you need.

But I’m just recommending what I have.

You’re going to get a multitude of advice on here. Go with what sounds good to you and your situation. We use ours for evenings and daytime naps as we can’t reliably hear our daughter from downstairs. Downtime for parents is precious!

We went with phillips advent. It has temperature and noise. Range and signal really good. I was interested in video at first but having not used it it wasn’t necessary in our case.

    This one I think

I waited ages (Jan) before buying the EM-5 in case they bought a new one out. Still really like mine for form and still have loads to learn on it so will stick with it, but wouldn’t mind some of the upgrades like the upgraded processor.

Cheers, some good comments there. I looked at the Kona Zing range on CRC. I though about fit as well, was considering getting a bike fit but was wondering whether to do it before I started so I was relatively comfortable from the off or wait til I had a bike and had ridden it a bit to arm me with a bit more knowledge before I bought…

I have on built into a Nokia Lumia 920.

I think it is good. Have the feeling it doesn’t charge as fast as normal lead. I have one at work and home. I just get into work and pop it on the plate. I think the real benefit will be when it is no longer so niche and the wireless charging is built into furniture, cars etc so you will be doing it without thinking about it!

I sat in a Brera at a motorshow, my that was snug!

Hora, I’ve had a 2.0 JTS for 6 months now. Nice engine, a lot of car for the money, not missed a beat despite me not checking the oil regularly at the beginning. I changed the thermostat which previous owner had failed to do. I’m getting about 32MPG but my purchase decision didn’t consider economy this time.

I did spend a while hunting around for the correct one. There is good proportion of old high mileage tat in classifieds and on ebay. I travelled a fair bit to look at them and also be prepared to extend your search almost nationally. If cambelt change is overdue (3 year 36K) then best to walk. I didn’t follow this advice but I drove my car from seller direct to alfa specialist taking the risk.

    Good luck!

Took the plunge on a 156 Lusson Sportwagon 2.0JTS in January. Really glad I did, though when I occasionally drive a mondeo estate at work i’m envious of the load space. The 2.0 ecoboost in the mondeo really shifts also!

Not had any problems so far, replaced the thermostat myself (wheeler dealer inspired me to get my hands dirty!) and tyres. I did get a scare when I checked the oil and it was well below minimum. Made a beeline for halfords to get some top-up oil and the engine has been fine. Keeping a closer eye on it now!

Seeing all these pics is making it difficult for me to contemplate the mondeo estate for load lugging which I was just starting to think about……

I’ve drank a lot of champagne in the last year to find what to provide at our recent wedding. Not just because I was paying for it, but eventually we went for Aldi at £13 a bottle. We had been holding out for the wife’s preferred choice Louis Chaurey from M&S to drop to £15 but it didn’t materialise until the week after! We also went for some Aldi prosecco for reception which was nice. Drank the last leftover bottle of that last night.

Easy up. Maybe big_scot_nanny felt useless, I certainly did at the start. But its the little things you can do to help that mean a lot like getting up early with the baby one so mum can catch up on sleep for an hour or two. It’s a hectic jump into the deep end with the first one!
