Er… No. The reverse. My assumption was that the new chain rings would be aimed at 1×10 and 1×11 users, and therefore compatible with narrower than 3/32 chains (11/128″?). My understanding was that 3/32 was compatible with up to 8 speed, but 9, 10 & 11 use narrower.

The rohloff sprockets need 3/32 minimum width chain, so logically there’ll be more clearance (and hence greater lateral float) between the chain and the narrower chain ring. I’m simply wondering if that greater clearance will negate the advantages of the chainring design.

My best guess would be that the difference in width will be too small to have a significant effect, but wondered if anybody had tried it?

Ah! Got you. RaceFace N-W rings have 9/10/11 speed etched on them, so you’re good to go!

3/32 is standard width for pretty much all ‘geared’ chains. Are you currently running an 11 speed chain for some crazy reason?

They’ve patented the ‘word’ AWOL too. It’s for their line of touring bikes, cuz no one ever thought of doing long trips on a bike before.

We have the Carver Trail 490 forks in stock. Full carbon, 15mm through axle and £320. They’re bob on.

Ah, in that case it’s not a bad idea. For commuters it’s a good option. Off road less so.

Another vote for Muckboots here. Walked 26 miles in them once (we got a bit carried away). Replaced them with Aigles and had blisters within 5 miles. Currently wearing my old Muckboots again even though the sole is coming off. New pair on the way for Xmas hopefully.

Morgans Spiced Rum and cococola. Just in from fetching the kids back from a party, now answering emails.

We have to buy it from Germany and they do like to add a margin, so it ends up even more bonkers expensive than it already is.
Stick a chain on, cheap, easily available and easy to fix.

To do it right you have to wander the house turning off the lights, whilst first mumbling then shouting profanities as the amount of lights left on continues. Finally, once apoplectic with rage, you fall down the stairs in the dark.

BOB Yaks are still around and still great. You get scary tank slappers on flexy frames though.

DIY livery at a half decent yard will be circa £30 per week. Food, insurance, all the stupid crap they need and everything else will be on top. You’ll need someone to turn out and fetch in and your house will become a swirling mess of grass, shavings, shit and horse related nonsense.

Budget for around £300 per month per horse and you’ll not be far off.

I mean you’ll need a direct mount front derailler for an On One, not a BB. :/

Just done some weighing. Turbines with 22/36 ring and BB 870g. Sram X5 with 22/36 rings and BB 920g.

Got them both in stock and the X9’s too, which are 850g

As for front mech, you’ll need a problem solvers 100mm direct mount and a direct mount BB for an On One. For a 9:ZERO:7 you’ll need an E type front mech (they now come separate from the mounting plate though).

It’s the chain. 1/8″ chains are all a bit shit and noisy. Stick a decent 8spd chain on there and it will be all quiet and lovely.

I say 8 speed as they are chamfered to slip onto cogs easily and the plates are thicker hence stronger than 9 or 10 speed chains.

Just did mine the other day. I had a set of drain rods already (what real man hasn’t?) and bought a 16″ brush from B&Q for about £6. Dissembled the interior of the stove, put a dust sheet down and twisted the thing up then down the flue a couple of times (clockwise only, or you lose the brush). Quick brush up and hoover the rest. Took about ten minutes.
Quite a lot of soot comes out, but the fire definitely performs better as a result.

Snapped mine many years ago. Limped for about a week, since then it’s been mostly fine. I can run, walk and ride, but rapid direction changes, throwing shapes and kicking people in the face are all out now.

Edited to add not had any surgery.

We had to have a three phase supply installed when we built a wholly electric powered bungalow in the garden, split three ways 100a for our house, 100a for the shops and 100a for the bungalow.

You’ll be close at 75a if the house has electric heating.

Turbines are lovely. We’ve got those too and they will definitely cover more bases in terms of adjustment.

As far as I know there isn’t a single specific version, but you can play with spacers and move most stuff around to get the chainline you want one way or another.

I wouldn’t say they fail early, but the Howitzter BB’s are ISIS and it’s a receipe for shortgevity. Big diameter axle in a small casing means tiny ball bearings.

The X5 100mm option is a cracking bit of kit for the money.

Don’t bother, the BB’s need replacing too often and they are expensive with no options. Just get a Sram X5 crank. £125 for cranks, BB and 22/36 rings and loads of BB options when you do wear them out.

Gis a shout if you want one, we’ve got loads in stock.

To be frank, sell the clio. Big mistake, you’ll be lucky to get under 2.5k for years. He’ll need something different from all the other young drivers. Classic cars have the cheapest insurance or something like a land rover 110 as owners don’t usually claim for small stuff…

Sadly no longer true. Most classic will only work if the driver has access to another car and as far as Defenders go, they’re worse that a lot of the more common shit boxes that kids drive around in. Corsa’s are actully pretty cheap, as are Ford Ka’s, Citroen C1, etc.

We have my 18yo daughter as a named driver on our Defender and that’s £1600. She only uses the car occasionally and pays the difference from what it was just for me and the wife (£225)

The policy didn’t increase when she passed her test though, that’s with someone called Fresh (no I hadn’t heard of them either).

You don’t actually need the card at all. The retailers receipt has all the relevant card info on it – hence petrol stations being a big target for these. Bung the till operative a few quid to let you have a look at the days till receipts and note all the numbers and expiry dates down and you’re good to go. Go shopping in Kuala Lumpur anyway.
