Ringo, we have black disc hubs in stock and I can testify that they are indeed the dogs hooha's when it comes to longevity. Spares are no problem and they're easy to strip and service yourself. Not light, but definitely a worthwhile investment.

Give me a call or drop a mail for a price.

You didn't see the mud that fired out of my arse this morning after that dodgy beer in the Mainwairing.

    By heck it was grim.

I asked Mr Thomson himself a few years ago if they were going to make a handlebar and if I deciphered his very southern drawl correctly, then as has been posted above, the fact they are a machining company and cannot maufacture a bar and would not ever get one made in Taiwan, meant that Thomson handlebars would not happen in the near future.

Just tell her that 'you're not sure if she'd enjoy it – perhaps she could pose for you to see if she's really ready.'

    Then bone her silly.

"Syncros seat"? Where can I get one of those??

Well, I suppose I could probably sort one out for you. They start at about £40.

Stunning bike Tim….ps did you get my email about Maverick spares?

Dunno – when did you send it? I have a habit of thinking 'Ooh, I'll check that out and answer it in a minute' then getting sidetracked and forgetting all about it.

I do also seem to not get quite a few mails – want to send it again anyway. I'm sure I'll be able to help though.

How was that ever £4K+ ???

    I said around £2000 saving – it's actually £3700 as specced.

But think what else you could do with all the money you've saved! You could buy some more shoes and a hat and a scarf and some make up and …

I forgot to put the size up – it's a 19", fits six footers just dandy (too big for me, or I'd keep it).

Applying womans logic, I can give you a much better bargain than that – on this you'll save around £2000.

They're a sealed bearing, but other than that there is no extra sealing. Seem to last ok though, but they've not been around for a long enough time to really tell what longevity is like.

You'd be hard pushed to beat a Shimano unit though.

You can buy a Lefty for All now – fits 1 1/8" headtubes and no fuss. All pukka Cannondale too.

The Phil Wood ones use top hats for the very reason above. Lots cheaper than a new chainset if the bearings seize.

You can replace the bearings on one of these (if they wear out).

Was with them for years. Limited downloads unless you pay a bit more. I've switched to Opal (talktalk) now as the line rental/braodband etc worked out a fair bit better for the same money.

    Plusnet rarely failed though.

Great dogs, totally mental though. Do not even consider one unless someone is at home with it all day. They're super intelligent, but daft at the same time. Mine is a constant source of amusement and I trust him with immediate family members, but they're a VERY protective breed and ours has bitten quite a few folk who were in places they shouldn't have been. If you can be arsed they make excellent gun dogs and great workers, need a fair bit of excersise and human company though.

Back now (shot a PB at archery if you're interested). The threads all look fine, but it's more or less impossible to say for sure without feeling them. A tolerance mis-match as pointed out by Neil, could be all it is too. I'd be tempted to get a tap through the BB anyway though.

Can you take a decent close up of the offending threaded area? Mail it to me if you like.

Maybe they're busy. Did you show him the frame?

    SidewaysTim

Tim – its not doing it thats the problem, its what the Ti swarf does to the tool. The Ti gets embedded in the cutter and renders the tool useless to use in an alu frame. Most Ti doesnt need tapping out so you have a tool used for 1 job?

Cutters are £195 each retail (Park).

No it doesn't. Not if you know what you're doing. We're not talking about cutting a new thread here, just clearing an already formed one that has some damage of some sort. My guess is that the frame has had a few BB's in it and one of them has corroded and left a little of itself in there, someone has removed said BB cup and caused a tiny bit of damage to the threads. It'll be a doddle to fix and if you fancy sending it here I'll happily do it and return it for £30.

Any bike shop can chase the threads out – or at least should be able to. It's only metal, not rocket surgery.

Get on the phone to your nearest decent LBS and ask them. I reckon you'd be looking at about £20 tops.

br – glad to hear it. I cringe when I hear people ordering cars because 'it's only £35 a year to tax', or 'it'll sell better in that colour when we get rid of it'. FFS people, just buy what you actually want and worry about that stuff when the time comes.

We tried the normal sized estate car for a year and it was just not a great experience. Having three kids invariably means that if you go anywhere a a family there'e either a friend or grandparent coming along which means six seats needed at least. Towing a caravan or horsebox usually means wet/muddy fields, so 4WD is a big help. There are very few 7 seat, 4WD cars that have room for a couple of dogs, flexible seating and decent looks/comfort.

Personally I think the older BMW X5, Mercedes ML, Volkswagen Toureg, Porsche Cayenne and several others are a waste of effort as they don't have a flexible interior in terms of seating/luggage capacity. The Volvo is cetainly one of the best of it's type.

Good one. Because having a car that fits your kids and dogs in means you have a little cock doesn't it?

Looking at overall costs is a silly way to buy a car. If you can afford to justify the purchase price and you want it, then go for it.

Either that or drive around in a dull grey box like everyone else.

16,000 I got. If it's on 18" wheels they're about £150 each and very few makers do them, but crazily on 19" wheels, they're more easily available and start at about £70.

Great cars. I've had two – both D5 185 (Euro IV I think). Front tyres wear out quickly, you'll only get more than 28mpg if you really do drive like Miss Daisy and they do lag a bit when pulliing off. It's something you get used to and it saves wear on the drivetrain (or something like that). Apparently the coupling between the front and rear wheels can break and you won't notice until you really need 4WD – costs about £1200 to put right, but It's not happened to either of mine and they both have towed a very heavy caravan off wet fields with ease. They're not off roaders, but they are a great, roomy, 7 seater that can actually tow well and fit loads of stuff in.

    Get one.

They don't break any more or less than any other frames really – so don't let that put you off. If it's used you've got no warranty, so get it bought and enjoy it.

18" Voodoo are very similar in size to 18" Kona.

That Day One is a great looking bike. The more I fiddle with Alfine the more I like it. I'm even thinking about putting it on a proper bike!

    SidewaysTim

Me too. It's ace. I might actually even take it for a ride some time. All for £999 too 🙂

Martin, do read the instructions in the Alfine box – it tells you which washers to use for a particular dropout (it should be the silver one and the white one for horizontal). Long outer cable all the way and then screw the pinch bolt onto the inner 101mm from the end of the outer with the shifter in position 1. It's easy, as long as you route the inner around the guide on the hub correctly.

Hullo John – Pib was in yesterday and I asked him how you were doing. Not broken yourself lately 🙂

Alfine can be used in non disc applications and it comes with a little rubber hat to fit in the centrelock rotor splines, so it doesn't look silly with no disc in place.

You can fit Nexus hubs into 130mm frames, you just need a little cunning. I'm happy to do it for anyone who wants an IHG on their 130mm frame.

No stock of trigger shifters for a week or two, but I do know a place that has some nice drop bar shifters 😉

    Cheers all.

    Tim
