There’s many folk on here who do this new fangled bike-packing thing. It used to be called cycle touring, but that’s not fashionable any more. They cook gourmet meals in a ditch, using stuff they have carried there in a variety of strange shaped bags, hung all over a bike (never use panniers, that’s just wrong). Imagine what you could create, in a nice warm room with a sturdy table and running water and a car boot full of ingredients and utensils.

Thanks chaps. They’re NiCad sticks, the usual stairlift suspects want £90 a stick for them. Online battery pack makers are charging £28. I’d rather give my money to a cyclist though.

    Will give smudge a try.

    Cheers.

Yep. Get it done. Took me two weeks keeping it steady, lots of walking to keep the blood flowing but nothing vigorous and NO HEAVY LIFTING. After that I was back to normal.
Op was done on a Saturday, I was in work on the Monday (self employed innit). Bit sore getting out of bed for a few days, but otherwise just the normal effects of a general anesthetic and painkillers.

It’s been fine ever since. I didn’t ride for about six weeks though, just to be in the safe side.

The Escapade has been a proper versatile bike for us. Built a few in various guises, including a fixie 🙁

If it’s any use to anybody, we have a flat bar, disc version in duck egg large on offer at £650 presently. The Cotic boys sent us the wrong build kit, but it turned out a treat.

Been a few times. It’s ace. Make sure your tickets get you access to the paddocks as walking through while cars are being tuned/ going out for practice is fabulous. Also take a trip out to arnage, again with the right pass you can get parked right next to the track and spend a day there.
The racing is a bit odd as its not continuous, but different era’s racing for about an hour a time. All sorts of fabulous metal being wrung out on track, plus tons of classics knocking about in town.

    You’ll love it.

We’ve got a GYS Smartmig 162 and it’s been flawless. Ok without gas, brilliant with it. Handles everything on a Defender and a 2CV, so that’s down from 6mm to tinfoil.
Hobbyweld do cylinders of argon/co2 that are rent free and last ages.

Brant’s pants? Great idea, but given my record for wearing out/ripping my kegs in about a week, too spendy for me. If I had an office job, then yes for sure.

That’s fookin’ miles from Crewe. Must have taken you half the night to get there 😉

If not, then I’ll ask one for the old rockers who comes in – he’ll have played there.

Was called Coconut Grove for a while, back to the Cheshire Cheese now though. Not a rock venue any more.

Winking Man is Buxton/Leek way. Could it have been the Cheshire Cheese?

    Depends on the air

Pure air and no pollutants, probably not. Polluted air, especially containing particulates from diesel, yes (according to WHO).

I’ve a complete hub here that you can have for £25 if you like?

    SidewaysTim

I might have a hub that will solve the problem. White Industries CX11 – it’s a 130mm spaced disc hub, but can be converted to 142 thru axle. Ideally I’d like a frame to try it in, but that’s a bit tricky if you’re in Germany 🙁

None Exo version in stock tomorrow – unless you rip sidewalls a lot, it’s cheaper and lighter than the Exo.

Have you got 60tpis in stock, Tim?

    Nope. Due mid January though.

It’s pretty rocky up here in Aberdeenshire. I’m a bit of a serial sidewall slasher.

Fair enough then, get em to swap it. You’ll be waiting till mid January though.

Alas the exo version eludes me again

Just run the 60tpi version. Bet you can’t tell the difference.

When I bought my Maverick (‘tequila’) from Sideways Tim I seem to remember he had a gold one there too. It must be out there somewhere.

    It’s out there…

Oh, are you on codeine? It bungs you right up – and as straining to curl one off isn’t an option, it makes for a very uncomfortable experience. That first pooh is bliss though, when it does drop out.

Same as Ton by the sound of it – if it’s keyhole, then they have bastard great big keys. I suppose its because the surgeons all live in castles and such like.

Ooh, I’m an expert on this 🙂 Had my op 11th October. First ride today. Guts all in place.

I was back at work the day after, but not lifting ANYTHING. Surgeon told me give it two weeks before you start light duties, so I gave it three. It’s been six weeks since the op and made damn sure not to do anything to jeopardise my recovery. Riding today was fine, off road, plenty of mud, no mauling climbs though.

Take it steady and you’ll be right. The anaesthetic knocked me for six, took about a month to not suddenly get tired.

Just back from my first ride in about two months after surgery. It was **** ace. Woods, roots, leaves, mud, new bike, beer.
    I love mountain bikes.

The new ones are quite spendy as they have a whole new tapered fork and through axles. They’re £799. We do have some of the 190 frame/forks left in medium and large (black or silver) on offer at £550 though – they’ll take 29+ too.

Don’t overthink it. Have a look at a few, pick one you like, buy it and use it. Even if you end up hating it, at least you will get a large chunk back selling it on.

Fat bikes are like every other bike, they will all do what you want to and a lot more – it’s down to the rider to make the magic happen though.

    What frame is that Tim?

It’s a 9:ZERO:7 Whiteout Carbon. I’ve got a set of 29+ wheels for it too, but can’t be arsed fitting the tyres today.

Muckboots for sure. I walked 26 miles in mine one day, was bought some Aigles as a replacement, but they hurt after a few yards. Muckboots are warm, comfy and very long lasting in my experience.
