The kid looks old enough to make sure he doesnt fall off which IMO makes it safer than a baby/kids seat that is physically attached to the bike and the user tied into the chair…….wherever the bike goes so does the passenger when they’re in a seat – not good when your bike ends up horizontal on the road. At least standing on nuts gives the kid chance to jump off in such instances.

In saying that though I wouldnt recommend it……….but as Stumpy01 was saying we used to do it all the time when we were kids and we lived to see adulthood

Just got in to work after my daily commute in……….only felt in danger three times this morning which isnt bad. I just hope the silly b*tch who pulled out right in front of me and then took the next left cutting me up feels offended all day – “fkn ugle bint” was all I could shout at her whilst trying to catch my breath, I dont think I’ve ever used that phrase before, but she was and it felt good!

The taxi driver trying to pull out of side road was just a complete kn*b the way he was expecting me to stop so he could join main road i was on. Fk him i thought, not worth the trouble

By the time the two attractive female students stepped off the pavement infront of me I was ready for anything so a quick ‘aye aye’ making thenm jump and squeal put me in a good mood for the day ahead!

    Cant wait for return journey!!

Using flats since I was a kid (37yrs old now!)so decided to see what all the hype was about so purchased SPD last week……………how have i lived without them for all these years??

Nothing quite reminds you though what a **** you would look like at front of set of red lights with a queue of cars behind you as you slowly and unceremoniously find yourself lying on the tarmac in a heap of metal and limbs than a short sharp shock to the heart does when you realise you’re physically attached to bike…………… its enough of a short sharp shock to make you unclip at the speed of light!! A few stops and starts it will be second nature to you.

Best of luck to you both, sounds like you need it

At the end of the day it will be your day, hopefully one of the best days of your lives so do whatever you two want to do and dont let anyone tell you what you should/shouldn’t do.

If they respect you enough they will know why you have/havent done certain things/invited certain people, if they dont, well you know where you stand with them.

Thanks for replies, seems like 29ers will be fine.

With the 700 x35c cinderX on there looks plenty of room all round to increase tyre size.

Rim width though does look a bit narrow but I have nothing to compare it against….the only figures on the rim are 622 x 17, alex rims, do these figures mean anything to anybody??! Does the 17 mean 17mm rim width? If yes, can anybody recommend tyre width of new 29er that would be safe to run
