    Pleased to ‘meet’ you!

Recently getting back in to riding but apart from a daily commute from barnston to liverpool witha few detours thrown in and a few tame rides in local woods and along the flat wirral way my experience is limited….but this is changing!

I cannot do midweek for a couple of weeks but this should give me time to get up to speed (well, more speed anyway!)and hopefully get to Llandegla early/mid april midweek if your offer is still there?

What time do you normally set off/return? If its 5/6ish set off time I’ll normally have car by then so sharing journeys no problem. If earlier I can always arrange something if a few days notice.

I’ll post again in a couple of weeks time feeling fitter and with more confidence hopefully! Thanks for replying, have to definitely get something arranged.

Chase the little fecker, run over it, assuming its got a collar on twist it til it goes limp due to lack of oxygen and hang it from your handlebars to act as a deterent to other would be little feckers who try to attack your family – along the lines of a farmer hanging dead crows in a field to deter other crows. And the owners will be so frantic about losing their dog that they will still be in the car park when you finish your ride hoping it will turn up before nightfall, hand it back to them (limp but not dead of course) and tell them next time you’re bringing a shovel.

By the way I am a responsible dog owner.

If its bigger than a jack russell more extreme measures needed and it will probably be impossible to hang from your bars.

More responsible dog owners needed, at the end of the day its not the dogs fault.

Used mine all winter and would buy another pair when these present ones have had it……………but they look like they’ll easily see another winter or two. Only ‘complaint’ is that your hands can get too hot on the warmer winter days…fingerless ones for those days I guess would solve that one!!

Take some golf clubs and perhaps a fishing rod too………… then when she complains about you going on your bike for a few hours you can then turn the tables and tell her you’re going to sacrifice a round of golf (4hours) and a fishing session (anything up to 24hrs) to spend more time with her, going for a 3 hour ride is the shortest option. Easy

Find a local spa and drop her off………and if you pick her up 3 or 4 hours after you said you would she will be so worried about you that she will be all joy and smiles when you do eventually turn up in one piece, safe and well!

Is that an unused white plastic kitchen bowl in the foreground? Can you put it to one side if it is please? Thanks

Throw some petrol on it followed by some kind of petrol bomb……..then run as fast as fk as those storage ‘containers’ behind dont look too stable. But remember to get the bowl out first please

Just going off on a little tangent – who can fart AND pedal at same time?? If you’ve never thought about it try it next time you’re out!

You’re right Will – I’ve used this camera in every kind of light, auto focus works a treat no matter what light conditions, press shutter button half way down to focus everytime without fail even in poorest of light then completely down to take spot on pics.

Sometimerider I hear what you’re saying but you aint right with this camera, it works on autofocus with great flash if needed no matter how dark and how little contrast between light and dark areas to get autofocus lock.
Same happened in daylight yesterday……cant see how your explanation can stand up to that? Wont going to shop saying its faulty, will go for advice.

I’m thinking it could be faulty too. Not sure how long the guarantee is for but only had it about 6 months so might be ok (but probably missed the guarantee period by a day!). As I said before I’ve had not one single problem with it since purchasing or even seen the ‘BUSY’ message. Going to have to trawl for users manual………and will probably be just as p*ssed off in the morning!

    Thanks for your help anyway

Never any problems before in AF mode – point and shoot perfectly in any conditions the shots are taken whether flash needed or not. Its as if its going through the motions of the ‘first stage’ when shutter button pressed half way, then press all the way and the ‘BUSY’ prompt appears on the display rendering it incapeable of taking a shot????

When switched to MF its working fine……….but thats not the point!! Daughter taking it to school tomorrow (yep, she knows she’ll be in so much trouble if anyhting happens to it!!) and she just wants point and shoot.

Every time I give blood 20 meters away from work they take my blood pressure and ask me if I’ve run there! Its a bit of a running joke now but 5 mins later the re-take is fine after a relaxing sit down – anxiety? I certainly dont feel anxious about it.

It was a few years ago now but would definitely go back, nothing plush but authentic in a rambly kind of way. Good guest reviews on above link.

From memory if you’re looking for al mod cons with sky/sat and a fancy restaurant to dine in – forget it. Good bar with tapas though and soooooooooo centrally located even though you feel a bit off the beaten track.

New drop outs checked as heard about those, thanks for advice on pulling frame apart to fit wheel! Yes, have heard about aftersales……is the retailer not responsible to the purchaser? Buying from a reputable (?) chain of stores so hoping this wont be a problem?

    An alternative – http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_258443_langId_-1_categoryId_165499

    Opinions appreciated.

Nukeproof….”best of both” is probably what I’m looking for, alpitude has taken my fancy in quest for finding ‘right’ bike. Is it not in the same ‘bracket’ as P7 ie, more P7 than trek8500(sorry, relatively new to all this!)? Why would you chose Alpitude over P7,or arent they too similar at all!?

A 12 mile road commute 5 days a week is swaying me to the Trek…….but the desire to get out in the wilderness pushes me towards the P7, hence the opposing ends of hardtail spectrum!

Maybe the question should be which would be the better bike for the ‘central spectrum’ of riding?, ie no extreme off road and no endurance. Want something that will be a pleasure to ride daily on roads and make me want to get out and explore the unbeaten track………which would you chose??!! I’m annoying myself now not able to reach a decision, precious riding time wasted!

And another factor…..got a Scott Sportster p2 which is fine for commute and some off road stuff (quite limited though off road). .should this sway me towrds the harder P7?

Does anyone else have all these ‘problems’ deciding which bike??!

In the Liverpool Echo the other week I was reading an article about how the council are considering giving bikes to the not so fortunate for commuting/recreational purpose, approx 1500 of them. Would this not be a better option? The combination of scousers and free bikes is open to abuse (they’re not all the the same you know but there must be some jokes out there!)but surely allocating a ‘free’ bike to an individual would promote more care and reduce the number found in ditches and canals (and the Mersey!)?

8500 it is then, probably! It’s either that or rl 853 with fork upgrade and XT for £1106………….what would you do??

………..and now my sunday head is even more full of ‘what bike?’,but it could be worse I suppose. Thanks for for all your help anyway.

Thanks. There’s a Cycle surgery not too far away so I’ll go and see what they have to say about custom builds although I’m a bit reluctant to as they were far from helpful last time I went in, no personal service.

Right, time to read up about forks…..are lighter air forks less robust and sturdy than heavier coil….or are they just more expensive as they’re lighter as seems to always be the case??!

    Thanks again

JuJuuk68….I’ve got to get the bike for a holiday which is already booked for 5 days end of March joining the very fit father in law and brother in law!! but I do like the idea of not spending up to the max.

Flatback….my commuting bike is a Scott Sportster which I’m impressed with hence that why I wondered about Scott Scale 30…wil look further in to it as they are sold in lbs

Ciotic Soul for £470…..what would be an insult to spend on everything else needed and how much would need to be spent to do such a frame justice?

    Thanks

Thanks for the your ideas – was thinking custom build but tbh I’m a bit of novice when it comes to components and it all seemed a bit of a minefield……the closest I got to custom build was merlin offering a few options on the website! And they’re not too far away so can easily go and test first….somehting which might be difficult for say Focus?

RRD – I think its just my commuting head coming in to play, looking for a ht that is OK for 20mile round commute when fancy a change from normal commuting bike……or should I seperate the two completely??!! Arrrghhh, decisions decisions!

Stiffee – are they frame only and wil any lbs build it up as I definitely dont have the skills needed.

What is Cotic Soul with a Merlin groupset??. . .sorry, I’m new to all thi!! Be gentle!
