ikimbunza….count me in if the 'lesser known trails in N Cheshire and Wirral' STW forum group rides take place.

I live on the Wirral, Barnston, good riding if you dont mind the flat land. With only a bit of a road ride its possible to do Storeton, down to Thingwall, Arrowe Park, through to Greasby, up to Royden Park/Thurstaston Hill/ Clady Hill, in to West Kirby then along the Wirral Way to Parkgate up in to Ness……..nice ride on a quiet day as can get quite busy with walkers.

Will try 5mm allen key route
WD40….mixed comments so might leave that one unless anybody knows for definite?
Problem started a couple of weeks ago which ties in with all the salt on road and has got progressively worse so sounds like seized up.

    Thanks again

never had joint acc, I suppose just never got round to it. Im quite lucky though as wife pays everything (from mortgage to food shopping), my wage gets spent on me, kids and bikes. Saturday shopping expeditions are usually done with my card…….but without me. Its always worked, why change

+1 to all the above, sram rival. Seem to be a bit noisy but that could be to do with carbon frame amplifying sound? No complaints

From Barnston, will be out and about locally tomorrow with eyes peeled for robbing scum in trackies, reeboks and 'northface' coats finding it hard to ride

    Good luck in recovery.

Both my bikes are kept indoors under the stairs, couple of ground anchors with front wheel removed and hidden, still not 100% safe but makes me feel more comfortable. Ironing board, hoover and rest of understair junk now rehoused in garage, alot easier to replace if/when garage gets screwed.

    Eyes peeled

tried 9.5 the other day in the celcius, I'm normally a 9, and they were too narrow. Having second thoughts about ordering a 10.5 as these too could be too narrow.

    Thanks for advice

work normally on other pedals but they're a different make so could that be why? If I keep them as they are would there be any damage to pedals if turning in to unclip all the time.

So if I swap existing cleats around on shoes they should work normally?

    Thanks

For what its worth I picked up the Boardman team carbon roadbike on sunday and now fly to work with a big smile on my face, I think its fantastic………but time will tell and I've only got my P7 to compare it to, not very compareable really!

MF – I hear what you're saying, I used to think along those lines that how can it be anything else other than rubbish and people grasping at the slightest hint given by the 'board'. I didnt want it to work, I was urging it not to work but it spelt out very definite facts that only I knew. Have you tried it yourself?

Did it with an ex years ago, neither of us 'believed' in it to begin with then it kept 'telling' us things that only I could possibly know and considering I only did it to see if it worked I was definitely not pushing/pulling the glass. It was all to do with the previous owners of the house where I lived who had built it, it even spelt out the surname of the builder/previous occupier which was a very strange name that the ex couldnt possibly have known. Lots of other info that only I could know, it was an eye opener. Previous owner had died from alcohol abuse (only I knew this) and the last words spelt out very clearly were 'leave the lid off the whisky bottle'. Interesting

Its the best way to start the day, just a shame work gets in the way but then I suppose it wouldnt be a commute if there was no work, more a 'normal' ride. I get a ferry at the end of my commute (River Mersey wirral to liverpool)and although not the most exotic boat trip all passengers seem happy compared to the train/car users, folk actually say hello and smile, seems like the preffered way of commuting for cyclists judging by numbers, no escalators and lifts to negotiate like on the underground, no mersey tunnel to get stuck in, just roll on then roll off the ferry. On the return journey I can see the outline of the wirral and cant wait to ride off the ferry to start ride home along the wirral way – an 18 mile ride along the coast, could be hillier but best way to end the day

It took a while for the internet to become a tad dull, it only took a fraction of a second to become bored after reading a dull thread saying how dull a previous thread/individual is.

Abersoch with wife and youngest daughter and mother in law (she's a youngish good laugh/looking m-i-l, honest! Would I? No) ……….oh, the bike and sea-fishing gear are also making the trip. Ride on saturday day, fish saturday eve/night, ride sunday morn – I wont even see her 😉

sticks to skin like clingfilm after the 1st mile……but in a cosy way!!? Never quite sure if its the rain coming through or the sweat staying in though – only ever wear it in light rain/wind. All sounds pretty negative but it didnt stop me buying the smock, velo jacket, trousers and gilet all in featherlight as I like it and its so light and small when packed (bargain prices at TK's helped too)

Just browsing through your pics and liked the one of 'passing rider', you should have asked her to join you, she looks fun, not!! Then again if I was riding along minding my own business and a stranger pointed a camera in my face I think I might scowl/frown too! Ask her to smile next time, she's got potentioal

BD……I'm not bitter in the slightest, a tad jealous over some of their cars mind!! My step dad is ex-captain there and it has me in stitches when the red tails go on and they take days to elect new captain…..but then again it keeps the retired old'uns in a social circle. I kind of kept myself to myself and believe it or not I can adapt to different situations like I had to infront of these snobs – are you saying that if I had acted like they were then I would be accepted in the world of private golf clubs? Do you go around pretending to be someone/thing that you aren't so that you will be accepted? My attitude was impecable for the surroundings (it was an honour to be a member of the club initially)and I certainly didnt show my feelings towards snobbery. My face (unshaven!) or attitude didnt fit with theirs……and I'm so glad it didn't, wouldn't want to be a part of that way of life, despise snobs and folk who think they are.

When the Open was at Royal LIverpool in Hoylake I was lucky enough to part of the working crew and got very close to the pro's…..all of which seemed very 'ordinary' and down to earth unlike the memebers of private golf clubs. Maybe I just picked the wrong club to join hey? So i am speaking from experience…..maybe a bad one!

    Grumm says it all perfectly.

Gary M…..I dont think I was picked on as such by the nasty rich men but they certainly looked at me down their noses when I turned up in my ok respectable car and parked it next to the Captains reserved car parking space (wtf is all that about?)amongst lots of top of the range cars and dare I say it, with stubble on my face.

I'm actually all for the game, but i'm pretty sure alot of promising youngsters (who could ultimately be the next TW) are put off by the cost these private clubs can charge and the snobbery of alot (not all) of the members (unless they are the son/daughter of a member of course).

GOLF…….gentlemen only ladies forbidden….maybe not the case these days but I think it says it all?

BlackDog – you are sooooooo much better than me, I cant deny it. You've broken away from your working class roots and now rubbing shoulders with the tailored short brigade and 'my clubs are better than yours' crew. I'm allowed to wear jeans on the golf course now, are you??!! 😉

Gary M – not at all. Was a member of a golf club which is home of Stableford, expensive but not up there with the 'elite' courses. Was a member for 4 years and each year it was harder to renew membership due to the other members attitudes to the 'lowlife' and 'pondlife' (their words, not mine) that used to walk on a public footpath nearby, or anybody that wasn't a member of their club. So much snobbery and elitism by middle/upper class t*ssers. OK, so the club might be a one off with its members attitudes but I think not.

I now get clubs out about a dozen times a year and play on the municipal with the above mentioned 'lowlife' and have a scream, nothing to do with poor boy or chip on shoulder. If a cyclist were to try and put me off mid swing some light hearted banter would follow ended by a 'have fun'.

Why could the golfers not wait until 'the time was right' to play their shot, why stop the flow of a rider on a public bridleway who has gathered momentum and having fun in a public place. Thats golfers for you though – too many think they are better than everyone else especially the kinds who are menbers of private clubs.

Why were the spectators not on the course?

Well done Terrydactyl, shout 'hello' very loudly next time as you slide towards spectators showering them with bridleway debris. And count me in.

Yes, would be polite to stop but equally polite for spectators to make way to let riders past without tutting or make judgements on cyclists.

Big horn on bike next time TerryD if you ask me and honk it at the top of backswing

Used to play alot of golf, had to stop due to the snobiness of it all.

Wait til later in year for Lakes – less crowded.

Look outside at the weather – other European countries surely have a better chance of nicer weather?
