friend puts his in the washing machine, fortnightly for the last few months, they seem ok although worn looking. Wouldnt like to try it with expensive ones just in case. Me, the old smelly ones live outside and are worn on wet muddy rides, new ones for drier days (although it doesnt always work out like this). Perfect excuse for getting a new pair

I've just used ronseal deck clean with a yard brush and then jet wash – looks brand new. Have noticed in a few places though where the jet was too powerful the top 'layer' of wood has gone a bit 'fluffy' but should be fine once timber care on it as jet washing takes off previous treatments

In barnston, lets get this evening ride sorted!

Some ok rides linking up bits and pieces but some of it quite cheeky. For my commute its through barnston dales, behind bassett hound, bit of road (between basset hound and landican lane), down landican lane, take the cycle route and follow to storeton village, through sroreton woods to brackenwood……..then unfortunately road to the ferry. Some mornings its down to parkgate to wirral way and ride to ferry – all 'off road' but alot on concrete.

As you said thurstaston common/ royden park good for a laugh out of hours. Wirral Way. Few footpaths behind pensby that take you to irby and bridleway to Irby Mill where you can pick up Royden park. Few footpaths off wirral way around heswall dungeouns, Arrowe park can link up a few places. Leverhume manor around thornton hough has a few cheeky ones for the quieter times. North Wales though for the more fun stuff!

So then Wirral riders, shall we??

ruthin to liverpool then along the leeds-liverpool canal? Couple of mates did the leed liverpool canal the other week, about 115miles I think. Not the most 'interesting' of routes though I could imagine, canal paths tend to be pretty flat!

Be prepared to scrape all sorts of dog 'stuff' from the grooves between your floor boards for a few weeks. Worth it though in the long run, looks good fun

Went to two local fire stations today with all relevant documents…..£350! They were very apologetic, red tape, and thats why using an angle grinder at work is a bit of a no no….foolishly asked if it would be ok to bring angle grinder in and was told by powers that be that I couldn't – underground car park, fumes, vehicles, etc, plus a couple of the 'powers' use the aread alot at random times so good chance of 'getting caught pinching my own bike'.

Dont fancy the freezing and ****tting method, carbon

no room to use jack of any description

locked to u-bends cemented in to ground….costly repair job (for me)

lunch hours with a hac saw although will look in to cost of battery powered saw although sounds expensive? Manufactures said a large meachanical devide should do job – battery powered saw doesn't sound too large.

manufacturers said locksmith very unlikely to do the job but will obviously have to try one if I cant do it myself.

    Cheaper lock in future?

    Thanks

"finally got the wife out mtbing, good or bad idea!?"

Fantastic idea when she's out on the bike and you want some peace and quiet at home. If I was yo Id also recommend that she joins a female mtb group……even more time for you to do whatever you want to do as she's out with her newly acquired frinds.

    Simple

recently rode from san francisco to LA ont he Pacific Coast Highway on a fully rigid 1998 GT Timberline, v brakes, frozen seat post, slightly buckled wheel (10 of us all on 'retro' mtb's)…….Ive got a carbon road bike and a half decent hardtail (P7)and if I had to do it all again it would be on the old GT.

Far too much emphasis on 'suitability' of bike for the likes of the 'amature rider', different for the 'pro's' out there or those using bikes for a living.

a few months back when he was managing Tranmere Rovers he used to ride to the ground every morning……..and I used to fly past him every morning with a cheery 'good morning'. After a couple of weeks he was a tad faster though, too many Mars definitely!

smeg, years ago a few of us had a great run from viewfinder, down past thors rock (other side of ridge to rugby club) in to royden park. Tried it a couple of months ago and altho a few wrong turnings managed it in the end. Got to be an early morning ride that one tho as too many walkers out and about. Will suss it out properly before taking anyone down it if interested. As you know Wirral is fairly flat so any bit of off road downhill is worth exploring, lots of small off road sectiond that can be linked. I ride on the grass verge up and down lever causeway now, better than the 60mph road

Thanks smeg, will be trying that tonight after riding down levercauseway, make my way to irby mill via arrowe park and cut into thurstaston/royden park, up to the top of thurstaston hill view finder, down to wirral way to parkgate then across to barnston, looking forward to it already.

Definitely up for a midweek delamere ride, weekends might need a bit more planning but not normally a problem, we'll get something sorted.

smeg – bridleway in storeton across golf course?? Is that the one marked footpath down the roman road just at the bottom of levercauseway? Where does it bring you out? Down by prenton dell?

Seems like theres a few locals on here, count me in for a local ride

surfer, just down the road in Barnston. Commute daily doing a slight loop through barnston dales, down landican lane up to storeton village, ferry or train. Wirral way off ferry on way back and cut off at heswall or parkgate to get back to barnston. White P7, give us a wave if you see me!

Yep, chester is nice and worth a visit but like surfer above I live in the middle of the two, Liverpool wins everytime (and a new shopping centre, Liverpool 1, if taking the 'other half' too).

Certainly enough going on in Liverpool to keep you occupied for the day. As above – St Georges Hall area with museums and galleries and the Albert Dock will easily take up a day and everything is within walking distance

This weekend there is an event going on called The Hub

    http://www.liverpool-360.co.uk/whats-on/hub-festival

described as 'urban youth festival', skateboards, bmx etc, apparently worth a visit.

did my dissertation a few years back on gypsies and land use……didnt manage to get any interviews, was 'escorted' off a couple of official sites by them and realised why folk hate them, myself included. Scum

Im not sure if Id let my 16 year old daughter ride my yeti ASR (if I had one) but she does often go out on my P7 pro to meet her mates and 'hang around' in non-cycling gear.

Its a tough one to know what to do for the best but if my bike was pinched I'd be grateful if someone stopped them and asked a few q's.

I thouhgt as much, will try the two seat post leverage method before new saddle.

Reluctant to give in too easily though as whole bike was £50 (1998 gt timberline)bought with the sole intention of cycling down the Pacific Coast HGighway (SF to LA)which I have just returned from and it did me proud…only problem was one puncture over 540 miles so trying to keep it in 'original' state. Plus say £35 for new saddle when whole bike cost £50……

spd's for commute and leisurely rides where nothing too technical, flats for the more technical rides due to numerous experiences of wishing I wasn't physically attached to bike so I could get off it quicker as the ground approaching fast.
