the Spicy has been a popluar bike from the dealers i speak with, and i wouldn't be sure of much stock lying about in the new year.

For your budget i would certainly look at building/speccing a bike yourself though 🙂

Craig, you might struggle to find much info on the HX1 as i have only sold a handfull in the UK.

The frame is a good all-rounder, nice and relaxed without being to slack. Having owned a Chamy i would say the HX1 is not as harsh to ride, but it is a beefy Alu frame so is pretty stiff.

I you fancy need any more info drop me a mail.

My old man has a small business that requires labour. He pays them piece work which if the employee works hard they can earn £10-£15 per hour. the 'local' people who he 'tries' to give work too, turn up spend a week there then leave, saying it is too much like hard work. He now employs Polish lads, and they work really hard, earn good money (£500 ish per week) and are happy. Go figure eh?

for that money, why not go custom/boutique? a lot of very fine bikes, that could be built for around 3k and would be imo your money better spent.

slw, thanks for that! I have some swampy's on the way. Just fitted some Mud X's for this weekends riding, they look a bit skinny in my VF2 frame!

    si-wilson

Do you have a rough idea of the weight for a single ply 2.3 Swampy?

    si-wilson

The swampthing works great.. if a little nervous on flat wet rock … I found the minion a little more predictable!! But not obviously mud specific!

    I've got some Folding Schwalbe black sharks 26 x 2.35 I'm clearing out at £18 a piece…

They have quite high edge grip though, but roll quick for what they are… you could always cut the edge grip down if you want a bit of break away on the back wheel… but the they do dig in well and clear!

Timax are you a shop and where are you based? I'll buy your tyres, you buy my frames 😉

£2500 would buy you one like this 🙂

The Chumba XCL is a very stiff and versatile bike, can be built sub 30Lb or used with 6" forks for trips to the Alps.

over a mile long of fast smooth singletrack ridin

i am local to that area, but not sure where you mean?

anyway, Chumba have a new 6" AM frame in the making, not to replace the EVO as that will be going much more FR. New frame is top secret though 🙂

aye, don't know what they were thinking with that stem! I told them to make sure it was short!

    si-wilson

Eh? I can't imagine a situation where you would EVER need or want a BB that high off the ground! Combined with the steep head angle, it's almost as if it was designed for a 190mm long shock, but they stuck a 200mm one in just for laughs!

It's certainly not function over form… Both Function AND form are IMO highly questionable…

The BB is 13.75 on the new model, is that really that high? The HA is 67 on the new model, again not slack enough? This frame is one of Chumba's longest standing designs and has evolved and tweaked over the years.

The EVO might be UGLY and unconventional, but everyone who has ever ridden one says they ride great, and is stiffer than most other bikes in its class. The old EVO's higher BB actually felt ok when on the bike, certainly not the complete no no you describe.

I 'own' a Chumba EVO, very unpopular and unloved frame, i have only ever sold 1! they ride really well, but people don't like the looks 🙁

Metalheart, i understand you are a little fed up with the current price, but i gave the best price i could to you at that time. Chumba offered me a number of frames at a good price to try and get a few into the UK market, hence the special offer this month.

Email me tonight and i will try to sort you out with some goodies

I sure Si will be here shortly…..

    never one to disappoint!

The VF2 is a very stiff bike and can be built light or as a tough trail bike and a little heavier if desired. I am about to stick a coil on mine and a set of fox 36 talas to see how that works.

Chumba have a good pedigree and history in the US, they tend to overbuild their frames and have very few failures. Warranty is 2 years, but they will always look after you long after that.

Just weighed a VF2 with an RP23 shock and seat post clamp and it was 6.3LB

I will probably get flamed for talking about the VF2 again, but they are laterally very stiff, compared to my old 07 575 there is no comparisson, the VF2 tracks so much better!

    si-wilson

Chumba claim the VF2 is 5.3Lb without shock for a medium frame.

I will weigh a frame with shock and let you know the real weight 😉

Anyone else sick of si popping up with a Chumba on every single bike thread. I'm finding it slightly tiresome now.

Not every thread, but a fair comment, i will leave alone now….

does he pay a trade fee?

an ad to go live soon, kinda of a 'trade fee'

Forge197 who also posts on here runs Lyrics on his XCL, and i think he likes it! I am confident to say that you will struggle to notice flex in the XCL 🙂

Have a look at the Chumba XCL, 'only' 5" of travel, but super tough and very stiff, but not heavy and can be built to around 29-30lb with sensible kit. Will work with 160mm up front if you feel the need 🙂

I have a few frames at good prices too 🙂

Does it have to be steel or Ti?

How about the Chumba HX1? works great with pikes too. I have a couple of frames on offer at the moment 🙂

Why not look at a boutique build? For example, i could build you a Chumba XCL for around 2K with a good level spec.
