Including "unsagged" geometry (at the bottom) which will allow you to compare to other peoples unsagged geometry (Orange, and USA brands show unsagged geometry – it makes no sense to me, though it's OK if you want to measure things with your iphone against a wall…)

What happens with different sag levels? At least measuring at without gives consistent measurements?

The XCL in that image was a 2004 frame. The XCL frames (like the one in that image) have a very low failure rate, (i think only a handfull have ever broken) and if you dig hard enough you will find broken 5's http://brightonmtb.org/2009/05/13/bad-luck-or/

Good shout on the Nicolai though, they are really nice frames.

I like the chumba but are they strong enough with the carbon rear?

The carbon is plenty strong enough, i ride in the Peak amd have had many a rock strike and it is fine.

Chumba always build their frames on the 'over built' side of things so be rest assured they are tough enough.

    ahem…. Chumba VF2 🙂

Nice and light, VERY stiff and versatile. The suspension action is very linear, and feels predictable when using all of the 5" of travel.

I have run mine with light weight bits for a weight of 27Lb, and now with coil shock and burlier parts and it works very well both ways!

Hijack alert! I could build you a Chumba VF2 for £2300 with a tasty spec?

I have used the 150 TALAS 2010 forks and they are very good, and i don't notice anymore flex than the 140mm 2009 forks they replaced. The FIT damper in the 2010 forks is much better, seems to sit in the travel better.

All in all a good light weight travel trail fork. I can also supply at much cheapness prices 🙂

To keep prices low i think it will be a no option build so i could keep an eye on stock levels and values.

Something like the XCL frame, Fox Float fork, full SLX group set, Hope hoops, easton ea50 kit, maxxis tyres for £1900 ish. I think that represents great value for a top quality bike.

Again, thanks for all the feedback!

Looks like we are going to offer 3 build types, one based around the excellent SLX groupo and the other 2 will be XT and X9. All with Thomson finishing kit and easton or Sunline bars.

The biggest challenge has being able to secure Shimano parts CHEAPER than Merlin sell them for! You would think i would be able to buy full group sets at wholesale prices from the USA cheaper than what Merlin cycles sell them for!

Really excited to be offering full builds with some really good savings, certainly cheaper than buying the parts yourselves!

    Sorry for the confusion, I
    meant xt or x9 🙂

Some good points well made, keep them coming.

In particluar we are working towards an full SLX specced bike around the £1800-£2000 point and a more expensive X9/XT build around £2.5K rather than custom specced bikes.

    Why's that then?

Chumba only did a limited run and they have nearly sold out, next production run won't be until mid year next year.

I have the new Mule NV and an old Dakine Apex (I think) and the Dakine is better, more stable, better storage and pockets for organising stuff.

Chumba XCL, super tough, agile and VERY stiff. Seriously this frame is a great UK short travel frame, very underrated!

I have a couple of frames on offer too 🙂
