Elfin, i agree with you to a point, cos im a customer too. What i don’t think is fair is using the LBS to try stuff before you buy, its just not cricket as they say.

Elfin’s attitude us exactly why people in this country treat each other like shit, what a shame. Like already said I hope a bigger dog never crosses your path elfin.

Ian, how about the VF2 frame? I couldn’t do you a full build for your budget but I have a few medium frames at very good prices (sub 1k).

Brodie bikes look interesting (and possibly expensive) i suspect they are hard to come by in the UK.

I bring them in to the UK on a pre order basis. Romax Al £1200, Ronin £999. They also do a number of cromo x bikes, see here for images.

Web site not update yet as i have only just finalised prices etc.

Went for a local ride around the Chesterfield area with my missus. She is quite new to the biking thing so had a steady ride, but was great fun just to be out, ace!

The xcl has an all alloy construction and no hydro forming. The vf2 has swoopy tubes and a carbon rear. I am all out of small xcl frames anyway. I do have a ano red vf2 frame that I could do a good deal on if you are interested?

How about the Chumba XCL? 5″ travel 68 degree HA with 140mm and now £899 for the frame only.

Nice looking bike, seems expensive though….

Of course i am mega biased but the Chumba XCL is a very underated frame. Its super tough with a classic design without all the hydroformed tubes etc, sensible weight and geo and is now a bargain as we have dropped the prices 🙂

I dont know anyone who has ever ridden one not be be impressed by the XCL.

haggis1978, Chumba have been around longer than you have been biking 🙂 I have not been doing my job well enough for you not to have heard of the brand 😉

Ted Tanouye, the original owner and frame builder for Chumba is a well respected figure over in the US for his work.

The Heckler is a classic and good frame, no mistake! The XCL is also a classic bike and has had many good reviews in its life, mainly over in the US as Chumba have not had much history here in the UK.

From tomorrow we are dropping the prices of the Chumba Vf2 and XCl frames. The XCL frames will now be £899 and the VF2 £1099. Both have 5″ travel, the Vf2 has a carbon fibre rear end and hydroformed main frame, whilst the XCL is a more classic looking frame.

The EVO will just be shy of 6″ so with it being so close to 5″ and pretty light for what it is there are no plans for a different 5″ frame.

I am working on a deal where the first 20 pre orders get a free upgrade to an Elka coil shock.

Are Chumba dropping the horst link?

No, the XCL and VF2 will continue to be horst link and in production. Similar to what Santa Cruz have done with VPP/Single pivot 🙂

The Horst bikes will be dropping in prices very soon. £1100 for the VF2 and £925 for the XCL, bargains 🙂

Also, to confirm price will be £1350 🙂

The techniques used in Taiwan and some of the Chinese factories etc are NOT inferior to the techniques used in the US. The tube sets, attention to detail (maybe) and most importantly labour rate could be the difference why you pay more for a US made frame.
