No wasn't implying I wanted to lengthen the chain. Was just questioning if running a shadow led to running a longer chain.

Update, have now discovered that C drive has crashed and turned from NTFS to RAW, D drive is fine and I can access info. This would explain why I could see C but not access it. Just running a recovery prog which has found some of my images on C.

Next question can I format it back from RAW to NTFS ? or is it junked.

The laptop came installed with XP Media centre edition. But what I am ultimately going to do is repair Windows with the installation disc, so I can get back onto the computer. Then backup the files/pictures I need. Then do a complete system restore to take the laptop back to factory fresh. So does the Windows edition I borrow have to be a media edition or will just home do ?

Hi Guys im writing this from my works laptop which has all USB/disc drives disabled (thanks employer) so cant burn/download anything. My actual laptop is dead, with an OS system fault. Hence needing the disc/discs to carry out a repair, allowing me back into the computer.

Pantsonfire they sound like they could do the trick if thet are def XP, would gladly send back to you once done.

Weight erm aroud 25lb ish, cost not bad frame off here, split and sold a turner and spark, kept a lot of the components. New 2010 forks. It's the equivelent of the Ibis WTF build with a few tweaks.

Very nice, love my Soul it's a keeper just finished my new bouncer but no pictures loaded as yet.

Out of curiosity what have DT done to the eternals over and above Pace. The reason I ask is I had some RC41 XCAM's which I didn't have any problems with. But Pace get such a bashing just curious what they have changed ?

Have now found that by pressing F10 this brings up the laptops own inbuilt system restore. This has two functions a scan which checks for hardware issues. Having now run this no faults were found. Which seems to confirm the point that this sounds like a OS fault. The other function is to wipe/restore the system with this comes the disclaimer that all files etc will be formated. So I think it's back to remove the drive extract the files I need. Re-install the drive and then format back to factory.

Could somebody confirm that my train of thought is correct.

If so now need to try and work out how to get the hard drive out!!

Thanks cranberry, looking at the back it would appear I have to the whole rear of the case off. The laptop is a Vaio (rubbish) I know certain machines you can just in a manner of speaking remove a flap to gain access to the drive.

Thanks some good advice here, I do back up photos but had just loaded the latest batch on then it died. Without sounding daft how do I find out the type of drive I had in the laptop – google the model for drive specs ?

Have now discovered it has a SATA drive, is it super complicated to remove the drive ? and install in the enclosure ?

Starting in safe mode the last line/item it hangs at is;

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\windows\system32\drivers\mup.sys

Ive read that if I can get hold of a Windows XP installation disc, I can load and go into repair mode. The only thing is I have read that this can sometimes wipe everything. I dont care if I have to throw the laptop away, I just need to recover some family photos which I hadn't had chanc e to back up on an external drive.

Hi I had a 240s front hub which was set up for the 9mm system, I wanted to convert it to 15mm.

Took a lot of finding out but there is a 240s and a 240s oversize.

In the end my 9mm hub which was a 240s and not the oversize one would only convert back to QR.

I had to buy a new hub in the end, hope that helps

I ended up getting a framsskin protection kit from a guy over on the Ibis forum on MTBR. Lazer cut and shipped from Oz for twenty odd quid if I remember correctly.

In my opinion yes, if some sort of rating/feedback system isn’t put in place quick. A lot of people are going to lose money and the classifieds will lose the trust/credibility it has been built on.

Can you get better/whats the best/powerful rim brakes for cyclo cross bikes ? Frame/forks wont take discs. Currently has mini v front canti rear.

Well the majority of the components have come from a bike a split. So XTR was all bought before prices went mental!

New ive had to buy seat post, brakes sold some ultimates and then replaced with the Elxiir’s. Rear hub conversion and new front wheel build also new forks.

Frame is coming from Stif and they are building have done a good discount on forks, and the build is free. Frame has no discount.

So cost wise frame/forks/seat post/rear wheel conversion/front wheel build. frame at full RRP rest discounted 15%.

All other parts carry over, but if added up together well dont like to thin about it !!!

Cant wait though frame is now with customs so nxt week or so ill have it.
