@Mugboo happy to show you around as I’m now retired so just PM me.

Question for the locals – why are there so many railway bridges through the forest. There’s 4 with only a couple of hundred meters gap but the only roads are fire roads. Weird or what?

How about a shoulder bag for walking around with an additional waist strap to keep it in place when riding? Lowepro bags have additional loops on the bottom of the case for this.

Arrived in Whitby yesterday for a short break and after the obligatory fish and chips we walked out onto the breakwater. When we walked onto the breakwater extension the temperature seemed to drop by about 10C and was very pleasant. Definitely heading back today but after getting some tree shade in Dalby.

@MoreCashThanDash I had the same problem but a quick google search told me to uninstall and then reinstall the GCN+ app which did the trick.

Seems a bit quiet on this thread, I wonder why?

I decided to have a dabble to understand the mechanism for crypto and see what all the fuss is about so started by depositing EUR20 (GBP16.82) into Kraken on 2nd February which immediately became EUR19 when a fee was applied. I’m still not sure why I deposited in EUR but couldn’t find a way to deposit in GBP. My first buy was Terra Classic/LUNA (yes I know it went titsup) which gave me 0.42169 of a LUNA after yet another fee of EUR0.29 was applied.

I repeated the above with another EUR20 and bought 0.733063 Cosmos/ATOM with another set of deposit and transaction fees.

Fast forward to March 18th by which time Terra Classic had risen a bit and Cosmos had dropped a bit so I fortunately decided to sell which gave me GBP26.81 with a fee of GBP0.40 for Terra Classic and GBP15.22 with a fee of GBP0.22 for Cosmos.

My balance is now GBP41.41 so I’m up GBP7.77 and time to take my money out, oh yeah that will be a fee of GBP1.95 thank you very much.

So a small profit of just over a fiver but if I had held on to my holdings they would currently be worth bugger all for Terra Classic and GBP6.11 for Cosmos from my original investment of GBP33.64. What a ****show.

Landed at MAN at 4pm yesterday and only had to wait an hour for bags so consider myself lucky. No steps for the plane but the Ryanair 737s have integral front steps so again not really an issue. Seeing reports that Jet2 and Tui are telling people to pack some clothes in your carry on as there is a good chance that if you fly from MAN your luggage may not arrive.

The psychology of being mtg free appeals

I’m now retired but still have a mortgage of around Β£60k I need to deal with. The psychology of having all that free money via tax relief on pension contributions appealed at the time I was doing it and has paid off handsomely.

Meanwhile in the very shady world of NFTs many owners are selling NFTs to themselves at hugely inflated prices by taking out loans, then selling them again shortly afterwards to a regular buyer and trousering a nice profit. Try doing something similar with shares and see how you go on.

    How about something like this?

I find the form factor to be really good for carrying around and I’ve even got a top tube bag which it fits in and the 14-42 pancake zoom is incredibly compact.

Another 2xΒ£25 this month giving me a total over 11 months of 1.29%. In fact I’ve won something every month since I whacked my severance/early retirement package in so its worked out ok.

Great podcast featuring Cav interviewed by Orla Chennauoi and Greg Rutherford link

I’d never really warmed to Rutherford as an athlete but really liked his insight into being an elite athlete and how we was able to compare and contrast his own experiences with Cav.

Hey Jamz, I’m always interested in different methods of investing and as this is the investment thread your opinion and approach is as valid as anyone elses.

Perhaps if you didn’t start your post with β€œwhat a load of rubbish” and then spit the dummy when people prefer a different approach you might get a better response.

Everyday things we should no longer put up with:

    1. Fluorescent lights – Take ages to come on, always on the blink, bulbs a pain to dispose of/break easily, noisy.

I just replaced one of the old tubes with a new LED tube which come on instantly. In fact you won’t be able to buy the old style fluorescent tubes soon so you are right, they have no place in 2022 :-)

You need to get it checked immediately. Sudden appearance of floaters and/or partial loss of sight/blurred vision can be a sign of a torn or detached retina.

Immediate medical attention can save your sight. Don’t leave it until tomorrow, seek help now.

100% this. I got one when I was driving so headed for the nearest A&E where I was diagnosed with a detached retina. I may have lost the sight in that eye if I had left it.

The safest way of investing is to do your own research, pick your own concentrated portfolio of stocks, and manage your own risk.

Might work for you but by the sound of things you are a trader rather than an ordinary investor who on the whole want a fire and forget method.

Why on earth would letting some random fund manager do it be safer? Have your never heard of Woodford?

Valid point and I have lost money to him and may or may not get some back from HL via group litigation and that’s why I always go for low cost index trackers and ETFs. But people are happy with Terry Smith at Fundsmith and BG. Kryton was probably happy with BG until recently but now he sees his Vanguard life strategy fund has been tickling along in the background and over the long run will do him fine.

How are you gonna outperform the market when the fund you have bought owns most of QQQ (and still manages to underperform it 🀣)?

Just buy an index tracker for QQQ or similar, simples.

Question though already have my company pension maxed out as the employers contribution is generous but I won’t be there when I get to retirement age so would it be beneficial to open a private pension but with only a small contribution by myself.

Assuming your company scheme is money purchase and not final salary wait until you leave then transfer to a low cost SIPP. You can’t contribute into a SIPP if you are already β€˜maxed out’ if that means you are already hitting the Β£40k annual allowance.

My low cost index trackers aren’t performing too badly compared to others and I’m now a big fan of passive tracker funds.

Although I get the sentiment, I watched my grandparents and then parents sit indoors and stare at each other for 20 years after retirement.

There is so much opportunity for retired folk to keep busy these days at very little cost this shouldn’t happen unless you want it to.

Just coming up to 12 months for me and not missing it a bit although I do miss my old colleagues/friends who I see quite often and they all tell me I got out at the right time. 5 of us went at the same time and are all keeping busy in some shape or form. One guy volunteers at the RAF museum in Hendon a couple of times a week, another helps out with tree planting and maintenance around Rivi. A third plays a lot of golf and a fourth is loaded so spends most of his time snowboarding and windsurfing. Riding and fishing are keeping me busy in between trips to the hospital for chemo, but the latest scan results are very good so I will hopefully be putting a large dent in the kids inheritance.

@guass1777 that video is excellent and ties in with what @NZCol said. I just did that calf stretch where you swing the other leg across the body to get the heel bone moving outwards and it eased off my PF. Before that I was just doing straight calf stretches without much improvement. Nice one!

    Chrome on MacOS works great
Chrome on newish iPad with iOS 15.3 usually pretty stable
Chrome on iPhone SE 2 with iOS 15.3 complete shambles as described above by the other iPhone users, even when logged on

For the 2 iOS devices, they are sat side by side on the same home wifi and the difference in user experience is staggering.

I was on a call with someone earlier in the week who is clinically vulnerable and she is on the priority list for the new anti-viral drugs the government have secured. She came down with symptoms so sent off the PCR test she had already been sent and quickly got the anti-viral drugs despatched. Within an hour of taking them she felt much better and is well on the way to full recovery. Good news for those of you either in this category or know people who are.

Another vote for Hawksmoor but Borough one beats Spitalfields. I’ve only been to the Borough one but my daughter went to Spitalfields a couple of weeks ago and didn’t have a good experience. That said they comp’d a couple of steaks which they used at Borough last night and really enjoyed it.

BTW they are in Manchester and Edinburgh now so definitely heading in the chain direction.

I need to sell some soon so is there a best time of the month and how long does it take for the money to reach your account?

Edit: Just done it and it gives you the option to delay until after the next draw or straight away, in which case you’ll receive the money in your bank account within 3 banking days.

I also noticed there is no 2FA on the account, is this correct?
