@welshfarmer I downloaded a 21 mile route in HD which was 4.8GB so that should take around 5 1/2 hours at 2Mbit.

Just switched over from Zwift and liking it so far as I was getting a bit bored with the Zwift routes. I use a laptop hooked up to a TV but always download the route in HD ahead of riding to get the best resolution. One benefit over zwift is you can have family members linked to the primary account.

Coming to this a bit late but just written my first ever Python program for the day 1 challenge and I’m impressed with PyCharm IDE. My very first program was written in Basic under the George 3 operating system on a remote teletype with the program stored on punch paper tape. Those were the days!

he’s been sacked from two jobs so far for lying (should’ve been more)

I’m surprised Starmer doesn’t make more of this at PMQ. I’d be dropping in this nugget every week.

Nothing this month. Here’s the picture since July when I got off to a flyer but things have dried up in the last 3 months.
Month Prize Return Cumulative Return Annualised return
    1 £50.00 0.11% 0.11% 1.32%
    2 £100.00 0.22% 0.33% 1.97%
    3 £75.00 0.16% 0.49% 1.97%
    4 £25.00 0.05% 0.55% 1.64%
    5 £25.00 0.05% 0.60% 1.44%
    6 £0.00 0.00% 0.60% 1.20%

Edit-sorry about the formatting, looks ok in the input panel.

Left eye is reading Right eye is distance

    works for me.

Also works for me up to a point. I now put a distance lense in my left eye when out riding and it makes “the trails come alive”. In other words it gives me 3D vision when riding instead of 2D.

Looking at the SP Energy Twitter feed they’re saying Sunday/Monday for most people. Hopefully be able to get some staff in from other suppliers that haven’t been affected.

Return of power keeps getting pushed back here in CH3. First it was 8pm tonight, then 8pm tomorrow and the latest update says 6pm Monday. Luckily we have a gas hob for a brew and a log burner to keep warm. Also the goshawk pub 50 yards away has power as they are on a different leg so not all bad.

Power just gone off in CH3 (Delamere) should be back around 11.

    Where exactly is the difference?

Ex England cricket captain versus 19 year old rookie?

The worrying aspect for me is Joe Root not coming out and commenting on the racism that has existed during his time at Yorkshire.

Regarding drawdown versus annuities it’s not an all or nothing decision. You can keep some in drawdown and use the rest to buy an annuity for the guaranteed income. And you can buy an annuity up to the age of 75 so another degree of flexibility. I’m happy to have everything in drawdown for the moment and take the risk of a correction by having 2 years worth of money in ‘cash’ to ride out any corrections.

Anyway, on to more pressing things with a walk planned later this morning from Beaston Castle along the Sandstone Trail to The Pheasant at Buwardsley for a spot of lunch and a return stroll. Not a bad start to the week :-)

If you find a decent B&B you could travel up Monday and come back Tuesday. Same deal Wednesday/Thursday and see if you can negotiate WFH on Friday. I did something similar a few years ago (Northwich to Tamworth) and it worked out ok, especially as I worked late on the days I was staying over, meaning I could get an early dart on the dqys I was travelling back home. Couldn’t have done it for more than a few months though.

Waiting for the delivery of my new Citroen EC4, was the same cost as leasing a 1.2 petrol.

Nice car the EC4. There’s roughly a £10k price difference between the entry level petrol manual version and the EC4 so that’s an interesting set of lease figures. Obviously with leasing you are paying for the depreciation but it shows how the maths work and why purchasing a new EV is out of the question for most people.

    apple works seamlessly with google

Very much this, although more google works seamlessly with apple. I have my photos on an external drive connected to my mac mini and I couldn’t get iCloud to back them up, but I’m sure there must be a way. With google drive you can click on any folder whether it’s internal or external and it will backup/sync.

I keep coming back to the eNiro, but I don’t think this is rated for towing.

The eNiro is the one that seems to tick all the right boxes for me – range, performance, spec, ride comfort, luggage space, price.

They don’t seem to crop up much, especially on this thread so any reason why?

We stayed in Conwy last week for 2 nights at Y Capel which is a converted chapel belonging to the Erskine Arms. Its located within the town walls so everything is on your doorstep and some great walks out to the marina and beyond. Great place for a 2 night break and 2 minutes off the A55.

    Prince Albert Angling Society

    Made my eyes water…

Yes, I’m not looking forward to the initiation ceremony.

Another thing about retirement I’ve found is the weather is not as crap as I thought it was, and quite often you get a day that is rubbish in the morning and good in the afternoon (or vice versa) so you can shape your day accordingly.

I applied to Prince Albert Angling Society in May 2020 knowing there was a 2 year waiting list but I had my acceptance email through this week so I’m getting ready for a bit of winter fishing. I’ve got Hatchmere (Delamere) on my doorstep so I can pop out for an hour or so with the spinning rod and try and get into the pike. I can also be on the Dee at Farndon in 20 minutes or further upstream at Erbistock or Llangollen for some fly fishing. Great hobby for clearing your mind.

i just need to find some more cycling buddies as the ones I usually ride with are still working.

We’ve just come back from 2 nights in North Wales as the weather looked settled so we booked a last minute midweek break.

    Don’t miss working one bit.

@spot1978 as a thank you to people why not set up your smart phone on time lapse when he’s building one or more of the models and then send out the video. A friend of mine did this and it looked really good.

Had my 3rd pfizer jab Monday at 4pm due to borked immune system. Felt really rubbish from Tuesday evening until this morning but still had a sweating episode about 9am this morning. Also woke up with a red and swollen arm this morning which is probably caused by me sleeping on my jabbed arm as the other arm is in a full cast after binning it on my bike. 2021 can just go and do one.

The employee share scheme is typically subject to tax on any gain

Not true. If you keep them for 5 years you usually don’t pay tax plus you are buying them out of your gross income which could save you paying 40% tax on that money plus the 20% discount. If it was me and I was working for the company for the long haul I would invest for 5 years then in year 6 crystalise the investment from year 1 into an ISA to spread your risk and repeat every year.

Yep. I’ve just transferred 3 final salary pension schemes into my SIPP so taking advantage of the froth being knocked off the market. I’m around 40% equities at the moment, mainly in low cost index trackers as my core but have a few satellite funds for things like small cap, fintech etc. I plan to move to 60% equities but will wait to see what happens over the next few weeks.

East Imperial (EISB) has been good for me since I bought at 10.4p on July 21st. Sold just under half on September 14th at 19.9p and banked 90% of my initial investment so will leave the rest to hopefully grow. Not for the feint hearted and details are sketchy but they seem to have a good niche from which to chip away at Fever Tree’s market.

hard to find precise £/kwh rates for the price cap

Just look at the variable rate at most suppliers as they tend to track the price cap. The one I’m rolling onto is 22p kWh plus 23.5p standing charge and will run for 6 months from October.
