alfonzo – Don’t know if I met you mate – I was on a black & silver trance,Dysynni CC club shirt.I was with another Swinnos lad on a Lapierre hardtail towards the top of the first climb,then Rich passed us just after the moorland section when we stopped to help one of the younger club lads with his flat.Rich mentioned you had a good ride though,ripped his legs of didn’t you ? GOOD WORK ! 😆 – was it you that broke the cleat off your shoe & rode the last few km’s with one foot ? ! LOL….That S Works doesn’t weigh much does it ?

What ever happened to mrnutt ? he would have been all over this thread.Maybe he got a life,unlike the rest of us…. 😉

@richc – agreed re the walking with bikes.People were all over the place on the trail.On that singletrack rocky climb you are on about it was v difficult to get going again once you had come behind someone who was walking.If you could keep the pedals spinning it wasnt that difficult to ride.Must say though,regarding passing on descents there were many riders who would just be hollering “rider coming through” which doesnt actually help without knowing which side they are on.On highlight for me was on the rocky climb where this very thing happened,the rider was shouting “coming through” to those of us already spinning up the climb.He did barge past us eventually,only for us to round the corner to the dip to find him lying in the side of the trail. 😆 I didn’t laugh though,obviously….

The grassy moorland was by far the most evil section of the whole route.The descent off the back of it made it worth it though ! & the mud,well..something else ! I have just about finished cleaning the bike down – a whole litre of muck off later ! 😆

She was awesome.

35 here – still do the odd bit – although nowhere near as good as the “yoofs” at the skatepark.I can still 50/50 grind almost anything though,old school style 😀

Anyone else fall a little bit in love with the girl at the feed station that was on the Hi 5/water stand ? 😥

As others have said – I’d recommend a decent hardtail with 100mm forks to begin with.Easy to learn how to ride on if you get bitten by the bug,easy to get rid of if you don’t.Something like the Rockhopper Pro from Specialized ticks all the boxes – great frame,proper geometry,avid disc brakes,dt swiss wheels,xt & deore shifting & recon 100mm forks.Cracking for around £800.

Whatever you buy though,as has been said,don’t call it a steed !!! 🙄
