I'm loving the sunlight shafting through the clouds over Parlick

Thanks Simon, I waited patiently for that little pool of sunlight to wander its way up the Fylde, over Beacon Fell until it settled on Chipping. Worth the wait, but I wish I'd had my decent camera with me – you don't get clouds like that every day!

    Jeffrey Hill, Longridge

Thought so, it's about 2 miles over my right shoulder as we speak. I took this from the same spot looking a bit further north – only had my compact Ixus with me though…

A supplier gave me a 32" LCD TV for Christmas – I mounted it on the wall yesterday.
I'm now looking for a couple of 2-seater leather sofas, and come June, the World Cup will be the coolest thing in my office… Apart from the beer.

    :o)

Where was the first one taken from Simon?

That's HMS Inskip – an in shore Naval base. I went to playschool there.

[edit] the masts on the left. Aren't the ones on the right just tower blocks?

It's bloody frustrating Ian! I'll send them back and see what they say. If they've sorted this, they'll be the perfect winter glove….

They've said to send them back for testing & you're moaning that they want to see them first?

Er, no. I'm asking if other people have had the same problem or if the problem has been rectified. If they're just going to replace like with like, it's going to be a wasted excercise…

Clearly, (at the risk of contradicting you), I eat eggs laid by my sister's free range hens so I know the difference.

I think that in future, you should prepare your own scrambled eggs then you'll not have anyting to moan about.

I'm with muffin man here – scrambled eggs hardly ooze flavour unless they've been well seasoned with salt and white pepper. Mmmm.

If you sent it back uneaten, why the hell did you pay?

I emailed back asking if a replacement pair would suffer the same problem and they've siad some designs have been updated, so I'll see if they've resolved this problem.

It's a damn shame because they are brilliant gloves when they're on, but as wwaswas says, the slightest bit of moisture and they're a nightmare.

If you ate it, you should have paid for it. If you'd sent it back after tasting it, then you'd have been perfectly within your rights to not pay.

Problem with late insomnia is that medication doesn't really help much. If you took something when you wake at 3am, you're not going to be able to get up at 7!

    (Woohoo! It's snowing!!!)

I suffer from late insomnia – I tend to wake up at 3.30 on the dot no matter what time I got to bed.
Apparently it can be a sign of depression. I'm not depressed though I have got an awful lot going on in my life which is causing a bit of anxiety.
It's bloody frustrating because it's the worst sort of insomnia to deal with – I don't really have much problem nodding off when I first go to bed, but once I wake up, that's it. I'm wide awake.
    I feel your pain.

Excellent, thanks for all the advice. Just ordered the rims and started to worry a bit when I saw a thread about the price of spokes!!!

    Thanks again…

Just out of interest, if a fellow of around 6'1" decided to get one of these Soul things, what size would he go for? Just out of interest like…

(He rides a Large Blur Classic, a Med Ellsworth Moment and a Large/Long Rat of the Road and has a spare set of 130mm Revs that need using…)

Z1ppy, someone suggest Next as well – there's a big store near me with a home section so might be worth a look too.

Was it the first time you had visited B&Q ?

No, it was the first time I've looked at their bathroom stuff though, and whilst it can be pretty good for things like lighting and DIY materials, I thought they'd have at least a few decent quality lines.

The Smedbo stuff looks a bit more like it, ad I'll do some googling for Valsan etc.

    Cheers!

Probably a much more simple reason.

Yeah, probably now realising how silly he looks videoing his commute and then posting what he thought was *like, really scary, man* on Youtube and this forum!

I think we've probably all said enough, I'm sure he realises that he just needs to MTFU a bit and stop being silly.

whereas cyclists who lack confidence cower closer to the kerb (ie do the opposite).

OK, so I got it wrong. Steve *isn't* a competent cyclist. Sorry guys, I shouldn't have assumed.

    As you were…

Calm down glen, it's really not worth getting your Sam Brown in a twist! As a cyclist, I know the rules and I know what's safe. As a motorist, I also know the rules and what's safe, but I'm also acutely aware of the sort of behaviour that pisses motorists off.
I'm quite an experienced and competent road cyclist, and I too would have moved to the left on an incline like that, knowing that I wasn't going to wiggle. If I'd not been confident in my own ability, I would have adopted a slightly more defensive road position.

    Shibboleth

So, let me get this straight. You moved to the left so you wouldn't hold anyone up as you rode up a slight hill.
Someone overtook you, through the gap you'd left, and now you're having a moan…
    Hmmm…

I learnt enough to see some appalling driving – like people with that "must overtake that cyclist" mentality, even though I was doing 30mph in a 30 zone.
The OP didn't appear to be doing anything like that sort of speed, 14 or 15 mph by the look of it, and the traffic seemed to be moving quite happily in the mid twenties.
As I said, if you're going to ride a bike on the road, you should expect to be overtaken by faster moving vehicles that don't want to trickle along at 15mph.
Expecting people not to, getting arsey when the do, or trying to cause an obstruction so they can't is just going to piss them off and further damage the relationship between motorists and cyclists.

If you can't look far enough ahead to pick your line without sudden swerving movements (due to other environmental factors) then you should slow down.

What makes people think we cyclists should be entitled to blat along completely unimpeded by other road users? We've all got to muck in and use the same facilities without winding each other up.

    should but sometimes unavoidable.

I'd be inclined to agree with you, but my eyes tend to work uninterupted practically all of the time. So I shan't.

Take the bonnet of one Mini (old style).
Polish vigorously with a tablespoon of T-Cut.
Buff to a high luster using a small knob of Turtle Wax and a soft cloth.
Garnish with a slight misting of Back to Black or similar silicon-based car interior sprays.
This isn't just any sledge, this is the fastest f*****g sledge I ever rode on.

During rush hour traffic, if all motorists waited until there were no oncoming vehicles before overtaking, we'd ALL travel to work at the same speed as the slowest cyclist.

"Wiggling" is dangerous cycling. You should look far enough ahead to be able to adjust your road position to avoid potholes and grids WITHOUT wiggling.

If you ride so close to the curb that you have to swerve to avoid grids or gutter debris, then your technique needs work. But what the hell do I know, 250 road miles a week for 4 years didn't really teach me much.

Not by senselessly compromising the safety of the cyclist.

If he didn't have to brake or swerve, and there was no danger of being struck by the wing mirror, where does senselessly compromising come into it?
I'm subjected to far more compromising driving every time I ride my road bike, cars cutting back in too early, overtaking then turning left, or overtaking and then braking hard.
That didn't look particularly bad at all to me. So in answer to Steve's question, closer than that.
And I have to say, name-calling is rather unnecessary.

You're either a c0ck or a troll (possibly both), so no point replying.

Fair enough. You asked a question, I answered it. And whilst I hate to be the pedant of the piece, you already did reply. Silly man.

I once haggled with a guy who was selling jewellery he'd made from a battered old suitcase when I was on holiday. Nice stuff, nothing valuable, just nice crafty stuff.

I offered him about 25% less than he wanted and he looked all sad and said "sure, ok, if you want… You can pay me that much if that's all you think it's worth. It just means I won't make anything for my time. But if that's how much you want to pay, you can have it for that…"

I ended up paying the higher price even thought I knew he was guilt-tripping me. He just did it very well.

    HTH.

Didn't cause you to brake or swerve. I'm assuming you're a competent cyclist, what's the problem?

As a cyclist and car driver, I'll pass cyclists fairly close if it means I avoid a head-on crash with oncoming vehicles. Stop moaning.

Been thinking about a Soul to replace my current hardtail – a Chameleon. But this talk of chain suck worries me. Never suffered from this problem before so not really au fait with it.

As I understand it, it's fairly misunderstood though some frames seem more prone to it. Is it a geometry problem? This isn't a Cotic bashing post – I have a RoadRat and love it, I'm just concerned about buying a frame and opening myself up to a problem I've never suffered from before.
