Roughly translated – “People like that aren’t good enough for me”

Well translated Peter, thanks. We did that subject pretty much to death, and the only conclusion I came to was that I steadfastly stand behind my views. Any of the drivel that was posted to try and show me ‘the error of my ways’ simply galvanised my opinions.

The only reason Fred brought it up is to try and divert attention from the fact that his shoulder-chip caused him to interpret a perfectly lucid, eloquent voicing of a successful, educated woman’s opinion as sneering resentment.

Come on Fred, it doesn’t take that long to look up 2 words in a dictionary.

Why don’t you come and tell the other boys and girls what you’ve learnt?

Froma a man who comes up with such delightful ejaculations as this:

There’s no ‘sneering resentment’ there whatsoever. Just dislike. In exactly the same way that Miss Thompson thinks that using words like ‘innit’ and ‘like’ make a person sound stupid, I think tattoos make people look thick.

If you had the ability to look at the big picture, you’d be able to see that my agreement with her comments is quite similar to my views on tattoos, which I’d wager she would probably share to a certain extent.

Go and get a dictionary and look up the word ‘resentment’. Then, for contrast, try and find ‘dislike’. It’s under ‘D’.

There’s no point in arguing with an idiot Peter, you’ll only drag me down to your level and beat me with your vast experience. 🙄

I’ve got a few Thos Pink and TM Lewin (Lewin invented the button down shirt don’t you know, and they do 3 sleeve lengths) but Hugo Boss or Ermenegildo Zegna are my personal favourites.

Really nice cloth that irons easily and looks good-as-new after each wash.

A typical Fred filibuster. You must have been up all night.

I think that chip on your shoulder is causing you to list slightly. I can think of no other explanation for your cockeyed interpretation of her comments.

Sneering resentment? The only sneering resentment I can see seems to be emanating from yourself!

I love nothing more than an obsure word Graham. But surely “sesquipedalophobia” is the verbal equivalent of pulling the legs of flies. A bit like making dislexic dyslactic dilspleptic dyslexic so difficult to spell.

Anyway, where is the cockney troll? Feeding the peristeronic park life?

Yes thanks, well enough to make a pun.

Hmm… Convoluted puns. Whatever next. 🙂

(Whereas I wish to convey my middle-class intellectual elitism, hence my casual use of the word “peristeronic”)

Does your elite intellect know the differenece between ‘pidgin’ and a ‘pigeon’? 🙄

Thought you’d gone to crack one off whilst fantasising about middle class women on a date?

I’m just going to log on Amazon to buy that book: “Rants, Shouts and Leaves” by Padded Fred.

no you were not you were saying he was thick, that he could not form coherent arguments , keep tense or use it’s and its correctly.

    And your point is? 🙄

Fred, I think someone must have hacked your account, because I could have sworn I just copied this off your original post:

Granted, some scrote mumbling some inane ‘gangsta’ toss they’ve learned off their (c)Rap albums just sounds daft,

Isn’t ‘daft’ another word for thick or foolish? So, to spell this out to you, on one hand you think people sound thick (daft) if their speach and language has been shaped by listening to urban music, yet you think Miss Thompson is a ‘stuck up cah’, ‘snobbish’ and ‘narrow minded’ for asserting pretty much the same opinion.

    I’m lost.

That seems a bit harsh and up yourself or is that up ones self? – I could never get to grips with grammar.

Merely pointing out how a slip in standards can make written English ambiguous or difficult to understand.

Fred, you asked me a question in your last post. As you can see, I’ve answered it in detail.

I’d be interested to hear your comments… 🙄

    Where did I say that?

On one hand you claim to be proud of how your environment has influenced your language, and are – for some strange reason – proud of the result, yet you scoff at people whose environment has led them to speak in the style of the musicians they listen to!

The reason nobody takes your opinions seriously is that you don’t have the intelligence to form water-tight opinions based on the big picture. You simply react to details, going off half-cocked with a limited understanding of the subject and as a result, your views are riddled with inconsistencies.

And yes, I’m quite sure you lack any formal education in English language further than GCSE level. Your inability to use “its”, “it’s”, or to maintain a single tense for the duration of a whole sentence are dead give-aways.
[edit] Reading Eats Shoots and Leaves or Lost for Words doesn’t amount to further education

Growing up in the East End, I’ve found slang fascinating, in it’s origins and meanings. I use a plethora of slang terms in my daily language, regardless of who I speak to. It’s what I’ve grown up with. I’m a product of my environment.

Granted, some scrote mumbling some inane ‘gangsta’ toss they’ve learned off their (c)Rap albums just sounds daft, but Ms Thompson fundamentally misses the point that a language evolves with and is shaped by the people that use it.

So you’re allowed to judge which elements of your ‘environment’ should or shouldn’t influence the way in which you speak, yet she isn’t? On a fundamental level, you have no more right than her to say what you think is acceptable and what isn’t, yet you somehow feel compelled to do so.

In reality, I’d take far more notice of the opinion of a highly accomplished woman who read English Language at Cambridge than that of an underachieving internet no-mark.

I’ve long suspected that your lack of formal education has left you with a huge chip on your shoulder, and that you cultivate your silly slang speak in a bid to divert attention from your own linguistic shortfalls.

Speaking the way you do doesn’t make you look like an intellectual who embraces the fluidity of the English language, it just makes you look foolish.

I use gears and discs on mine with no problems. The dropouts work very well – a fraction more fiddly than a standard dropout but no major problems at all.

This is my Large/Long with CXP22s on XT disc hubs, Hope Mini Monos, Dura Ace mechs, carbon cranks, bars stem, post etc… Bit of an overkill but I built it with spares that I had lying around and a few classified purchases.

I did a twenty last night on it (I built it for commuting and winter road training where it feels safer than an arse-in-the-air roadbike) and I’d forgotten how much I enjoy riding it. Obviously, it’s not as quick as the carbon road bike, but so much comfier. I have 32mm Bonty Race Lite tyres on it.

    [Edit] I’m a shade over 6’…

Yeah, the guys from my boys public school aren’t what they used to be.

Wow, that must have been a helluva school if it taught boys to be nubile… 🙄

I missed my 20 year reunion last weekend due to a friend’s wedding. I was gutted to not be going – judging by facebook, I’m the only one that’s not doubled in weight and gone bald. And that goes for most of the women too!

Photos were posted on FB, and I’m glad I didn’t go. There’s something unsettling about seeing that those lithe, nubile hotties that you used to cop off with have turned into haggered old dogs.

Thanks Elliptic, we’re ready for a bit of pushing where you’ve mentioned, and if the rain holds off a bit this week, the ground shouldn’t be too bad.

Really looking forward to the Easedale descent, but I think I’ll skip the Black Moss Pot!

+1 for Manfrotto. Quality is second to none, but you pay for it. I have an alloy studio model, weighs a ton but will outlast me.

For lightweight occasional use, Velbon do some very reasonable alloy-legged ones that aren’t massively heavier than carbon.

Viners/Oneida are good quality, Villeroy & Boch is probably about the best. I have sets from both makers as I do work for them, but the ones I have are aimed at the catering industry. I’m pretty sure they do retail versions of all the major patterns though.

Superficially it was hilarious; but the genuine distress in the guy's face, and the obvious stress he's under, tempered that dramatically. Then it was hilarious again. Wouldn't want to be him.

He says in the comments that his tics and violent movements give him a sense of 'release'.
Looks like he was hving fun, I certainly did, bloody hilarious!
Every credit to the guy for accepting that there's a humourous element to his condition and sharing things like that.

If I gain pleasure greater than the value of the money spent, I've not been ripped off. I can afford and am happy to pay for something rare and stylish. Have a word with your accountant, you might be able to afford them too!

And if you're 'all for' breathability, why would you rule out a shoe that has 100% more breathability than your cheap, plastic-soled shoes?

I have a Pixma Pro 9000 for photo printing, it's a pain in the arse really. Inks cost an absolute arm and a leg and don't last very long.

Just bought a Samsung CLP6200ND for general document printing, it's perfect. Cheap, reliable, networkable etc.

The quality of the Canon is amazing though.
