Only ever had one pair of DHBs, some bib knicks that I bought about 4 years ago. I was really unimpressed with the quality – fabric was really ‘saggy’ which made them feel less robust, the zip was a tiny fiddly little thing, the pad was too far forward and the stitching all came undone.

I keep seeing good reviews about the new stuff, but I’d think twice about buying it…

Yep, Ribble do them and they look excellent for 17 quid… Ribble Link

I rarely use armwarmers for winter MTBing as I tend to wear long sleeves, but I like the look of those for road biking. The Castelli ones look nice too, and not silly money. I have Lusso ones which are basic but fit well.

    Sealskinz Porelle… Awesome winter gloves.

The first pair I had suffered from the unstitched liner problem you mention and I really fell out with them, but I wrote to Sealskinz and they replaced them with a correctly stitched pair. Can’t fault them.

Maris Pipers for me, boil until they just start to crumble, drain and let them dry out/let off steam in a colander.

Then whack em through a ricer. Then the secret is to drop a few 1cm cubes of butter and a glug of warm milk into the pan and start whisking.

Whisking vigorously while the butter melts gives the best consistency. Season with lots of good salt and white pepper. (black looks messy).

Wore this combo last night, temps around 0-2°c, howling wind, hail and snow blizzard…

Absolutely fantastic, legs remained warm and dry and everything felt ‘just right’ in the way that quality kit does. Very impressed.

Yep, I’m a roadie too, and I bought the FS260 bib knick for sunday best road biking – they’re too nice to rip up on the mtb! But I love the fit and the fabric, so they were an obvious choice for shorts and warmers.

I have to say, the short/warmers combo looks even better than the bib knicks – really stylish, nice stitching and contrasting panels.

What did you proof them with? Grangers?

I never use the pockets – I always carry a rucksack. But I find baggies snag when I get off the back of the saddle, the popper is always coming undone and you constantly have to adjust them. Plus, the liner is rubbish and those click-fast things… not worth a carrot.

And have you felt the weight of those things? Always preferred bib knicks, just like a second skin.

I’ll report back tomorrow on the FS260 leg warmers. Knowing my luck, I’ll bin it and rip a hole in the shorts!

I think the last 2 pairs of bib knicks I had are the Stealth – thicker Roubaix fabric? I love the fit and quality of them, but they’re the thick end of 70 quid, and I invariably rip them. Not a fan of knee pads for the same reason I don’t like baggies – I prefer the bear minimum that the weather and decency allows!

I’ve got the FS260 knicks for road biking, and they’re surprisingly warm as they use a wind-stopper fabric.

The leg warmers have fleecy panels and a more rugged, water resistant fabric over the knee – the look the dog’s bollox, I’ll try them tonight. Excellent quality and value for the money!

I wear full length roubaixs when it’s really cold, but I run fairly hot and don’t ever feel overly cold in the legs…

Try using your left hand. Feels like someone else is doing it.

Apparently, if you lie on your knob for a few minutes first, it feels like you’re doing it to someone else… Sommat like that anyway…

Reading your first post, you obviously *are* the victim because this situation has caused you distress.

Nothing to be ashamed of, it doesn’t make you a weaker person to admit that you’ve been upset by the actions of an individual. You also say you’ve always had the courage to stand up to bullies, so keep up the good work!

Far better to admit you’ve been victimised, address the problem and get something done about it than put on a brave face and let it wash over you. Sounds like too many people have done that before with this character which is why he’s been able to get away with it.

    Good luck! :o)

Do any of the daytime lurkers know if Hope races are suitable?

    Thanks…

Thanks for the info so far, has anyone tried Hope races in these? Are they any better than Cane Creek?

What’s the quality like on these? I’ve had Superstar BBs before and they seize up when there’s a heavy dew!

    Will Hope bearings fit?

    AKA a farrier.

A farrier puts shoes horses. A Cobbler makes or repairs shoes. Blacksmiths and Farriers aren’t always the same thing…

it’s a perfectly logical word construction, much like a shoesmith

That would be a cobbler. Unless you’re referring to an utterly incompetent civil servant responsible for the death of a toddler…

The drilled heads and molegrips method worked… Thanks a lot fellas, the toots will be warm this weekend!

Hmmm… I suppose the Mole grip method would be best if it works, but if it fails, it’ll be nigh-on impossible to drill them…

Definitely gonna use copper grease in future.

    Thanks!

If you can’t work out the difference between an animals natural instincts and a supposedly civilized human being harming animals for few ****ed up giggles and a laugh then there really is no hope for you.

They’re a domesticated animal – they have no need to kill for food.
Cats, living in a civilised society, should learn to obey OUR rules, and if they can’t, they shouldn’t be allowed out unsupervised.

    Therefore, it’s Flow’s mother-in-law’s fault.

    Like a hypocrite?

Erm, nope, like someone trying to highlight the idiocy of some members of STW. 🙄

Jonny, I feel compelled to jump to the defense of all the defenseless songbirds, rodents and reptiles that are cruelly treated by cats in the name of fun.

I’m going to form a vigilante group that tracks the nasty little thugs down, swings them round by their tails and locks them in wheelie bins. How does that sound?

    Shibboleth

Couldn’t give a shit about the cat, but I’d still love to give chav scum in that video a kicking.

So you’d be prepared to break the law and inflict physical harm on a fellow human?

That makes you just as bad as him, if not worse. The fact that you can let vengeance take over and allow you to become Judge Judy and Executioner makes you just as uncivilised as the chav in the video.

You can’t really go as far as calling them “men” to be honest, they forgo that right when making the choice to injure a harmless animal for fun.

    Really? Talk about melodrama… 🙄

Maybe he was trying to disorientate it to make it easier to get it in a wheelie bin…

The funniest thing is hearing all the OTT outrage from the STW Howverydaretheys…

It’s a cat FFS! Yep, the bloke that did it is a knobber, but worse things happen at sea!

I like Medusas. I’d use them all year round in NW conditions, but they’re fairly low volume so prone to pinching on hard dry rocky conditions.

Lovely and light though and brilliant in mud. A proper fugedaboutit tyre.
Not too squirmy on tarmac either.

Ellsworth Moment… Sadly, it’s more bike than I need so I’m sticking with a Soul and a Classic Blur. If anyone wants a Mint Medium Moment, mail me. Mmmmmmmmm

I have a few roadbikes and the non branded/tektro dual pivot calipers are fine, even compared to 105 or Ultegra. The main difference is the spring tension, so they “feel” different, but when set up properly, they all work very well.

Get Ultegra brake blocks (about 8 quid a pair at CRC) and they’ll be as good as you need. I tend to change them if they’re a couple of years old too – they harden and loose their effectiveness.

That’s a cracking ride, your fitness obviously hasn’t suffered too much!
Good luck, nice to hear a good news story… 🙂

It’s all good, just a little bit different.
You can climb bonkers stuff on them, rock gardens that needed walking up are quite pleasant to ride.

Low speed rocky stuff they are amazing at.

So… ummm… Basically, it’s kinda like some kind of “skill compensator”? No?

After a few weeks off the bike due to a bust finger and a badly bruised cruciate ligament, I did a group night ride during the week which I thoroughly enjoyed. Battling through the gloop in the dark never felt so good!

I’d been going a bit stir-crazy, feeling lethargic and generally crappy, not sleeping well etc. I’ve had 3 8hr+ nights of uninterrupted sleep and I feel awesome.

Now I’m just about to log off and do a quick 40 round the Trough of Bowland on my roadbike.

Having thought about what it might be, I reckon the gyroscopic effect of the wheels, compared to the length of the bike might be quite similar between a Pugsley and a BMX. Could be a load of old bollocks of course, I didn’t think that long about it

I think you hit the nail on the head Tim… A load of old bollocks. 😉

I put HUUUUGE great big tyres on a mountain bike, making it completely useless as a mountain bike, and then I ride across mudflats, beaches and marshes, stopping to take pics of my HUUUUUUUUUUUGE tyre tracks so I can post them on internet forums and shout “Cooheeeeee! Am I nichest yet??”

    I know! It’s crazy, isn’t it! 😀
