Zedsdead, they’re Softpad Executive chairs by Eames. Let me know if you want to part with them.

I’m a shade under 6’1″, so don’t find the standard too small, but I had seen the large version. Again, it’s a step further away from Charles & Ray’s original design, the purists must up in arms…

I see your point, but I think there’s a big difference between furniture and watches. Furniture designers often use several different manufacturers so it’s not unusual for the same piece to be made in different factories.

The 670/671 is a case in point – Vitra are the officially licenced manufacturers in Europe, charging the same premium as Herman Miller, but they ain’t Herman Miller!

Even a modern Herman Miller is not identical to the version the Eameses developed with them in the 1950s… 7-ply shells, plastic spacers, modern fillings etc.

If I was a Herman Miller enthusiast, then it would have to be an authentic US built Herman Miller chair. But I’m a fan of the Eamses and their design…

I think you’ve helped me talk myself out of an original! Thanks!

I agree MuppetWrangler… But up to a point. 😉

3 grand saving would perhaps allow me to swallow my principals. And the aesthete in me covets the “design”, not the manufacturer’s label.

The problem with some of the reproductions I’ve seen is that the proportions are all wrong – they remind me of those MR2 Ferrari 355 replicas. They look right to the untrained eye, but anyone that has been looking at the 670/671 for over 20 years like I have can spot it instantly.

I think I’m going to see if I can arrange to view the Iconic Interiors one…

Not really what I’m looking for Juan, it’s got to be the 670/671 Lounge Chair and Ottoman…

I think that’s a good point Simon, compared to high street furniture, the quality of the reproductions I’ve seen has been brilliant.

The biggest difference tends to be proportions, but the Iconic Interiors one is made to the exact same proportions, so it looks “just right”.

I think I’ll try and arrange to view one… Any pics of yours?

There are hundreds of different manufactures JP, particularly the Barcelona chair – even Next were selling them recently. A friend has a pair of chairs and a day bed that are really good quality, they were cheap as chips.

The place in Hull provides leather swatches, so I might request some and see what they’re like…

I’m not sure the modern Vitra/HM one would go up in price due to its recent popularity, and the fact that they’re waaaay overpriced on account of the heritage.

Early originals command a premium due to the fact that they were a rather scarce, esoteric piece and the cost kept them rather exclusive.

Been reading up about the Iconic version and comparing photos – it looks as close as I’ve seen. All the usual give-aways seem to have been addressed and the quality looks excellent.

And at a quarter of the price, I’m thinking it might be worth a punt. The remaining £3k could be better spent elsewhere…

Theselook particularly good, the upholstery looks far more like HM/Vitra version…

Milan Direct do some very reasonable replicas of the Eero Aarnio ball chairs ;o)

This is the most accurate ‘looking’ replica I’ve seen so far, the feet are the right size and the base proportions look spot on. Shame you can’t view any of these as they’re all online sellers…

The 800 quid version looks really nice – removable pads etc – but it’s a polished base rather than black. The £399 version has a black base but I can’t imagine it being particularly good quality at that price…

That’s a helluva lot of bike for the budget! Well done.
Only thing I’d change, longer, lower stem and slam that mother funky!

Well, after almost 10 years together, I proposed on Christmas day just gone. We’re getting married next June.

I made this mistake. Spending my wedding night with someone I’d been sleeping with for that length of time didn’t really inspire me.

Been divorced 3 years in June, best thing I ever did. More sex than I’ve ever had in my entire life; just bought a beautiful home with an acre of woodland and its own stream (my ex would never have agreed to that!); fitter than I’ve ever been as I can ride as and when I want…

So yeah, perfectly happy with my relationship situation! 🙂

You get a lot more time to think about “marginal gains” which is no bad thing as it will improve your mountain biking technique. Things like road position, line, position in relation to the wind etc all help.

Isn’t gambion a funny word.

I have nothing else useful to add to this, apart from the fact that my bro uses them a lot – he has a landscape gardening business – residential and civil. He uses a crimping thingy to crimp the stainless steel thingies when making/closing them.

As was said, face with good stuff, fill the middle with brick-bat, hardcore, chopped up bodies, fat bikes, single speeds… Basically any useless sh*te.

I don’t like them.

£185 for the helmet hero, are all the other mounting bits necessary?

What’s the difference between this and the Helmet Hero? Is it just the head mount?

Just a novel way of flopping on snide gear or shoplifted stock. I’ve had the watch routine only it was Jaguar – claimed to be on way back from NEC motorshow and had these top watches left over.

Avoid! 🙂

Surely Estate agents aren’t allowed to just make up a rival bidder!? I thought they were bound by some kind of rules?

Of course they can! They do all the time. But don’t forget the estate agent’s biggest motivation, it’s not always to get the highest price as some have mentioned. If they’re on 1% commission on a 200k house, they’ll make 2 grand. A difference of 5 grand on the offer only equates to 50 quid to them.

Their main motivation is to sell the property quickly, as the longer it’s on the market, the more viewings they need to do, the more newspaper advertising space it wastes…

If they can shift it quickly, they’d happily drop 50, 100, 200 quid on the commission rather than risk the unknown costs of keeping it sitting there.

Tell them you’re not interested and walk away. If they’re blagging, they’ll ring you back within a week and ask you again.

If not, leave it a fortnight and then go in with a better offer. Even if the other offer has been accepted, the agent is obliged to put forward a better offer.

I feel your pain . . .

Exact same scenario here, so I sent them back to Seal Skinz – 48 hours late a brand new pair arrived.Fantastic customer service.

Exactly the same for me and a friend, we both bought them and used to spend hours sitting on the edge of his car boot furiously poking and prodding the liners back into the fingers before we could ride. Infuriating!

Sent them back and we both received new pairs that seem to have addressed the problem.

Great company, send them back!

Mick R-soul. You obviously have a lot more time to waste than me, so in summary:

Land vehicles?
UK forces?
Chassis, suspension arms etc?
You strongly suspect wrong…
They are misplaced…
So sorry to here you “struggle”, your life must be quite unbearable.

I still cringe when I think about my first day at University in the early 1990s. I opened a door for a female student who promptly got on her soap box and lectured me on women’s rights – in front of hundreds of other students….

There’s only one thing to do in a situation like this: drag her by the dreadlocks until she’s standing squarely in the doorway and then slam the door in her pierced face. Hard. And if she’s still standing, boot her in the fanny.

I tell you what, seeing as you have nothing better to do, why don’t you run along and see if you can find any more posts that aren’t followed by chapter-and-verse of disclaimers.

This is a cycling website. And this is a discussion about bike material. It GOES WITHOUT SAYING that when someone posts a comment about a material, it is in reference to it as a bike building material.

Why don’t you run along to Mumsnet and argue with them.

There was a study in CW a couple of weeks ago, the long and short of it was that there were no discernible improvements in performance between athletes that used power cranks and those that didn’t.

I think the summary was spend your money on something else.

You appear to be missing the ability to remember what you’ve written. Here’s a reminder:
Carbon is THE BEST material to cope with sharp impacts

Yes, it is. If weight wasn’t an issue, I might be tempted to go for cast iron plate or sandbags, but who wants to ride a bike built out of a bomb shelter???

Only a moron would seek to make a clever point on the basis that my comment wasn’t followed up with such a disclaimer, T&Cs, caveats etc in a discussion about BIKE BUILDING MATERIAL!!!

Oh, hang on… 🙄

Shibboleth

Erm… Are we only considering impact resistance? I can’t for the life of me think why you wouldn’t consider other properties when making things out of it… Or am I missing something??? 🙄
