He posted the frame back after raising a dispute and not awaiting the outcome. He paid £125 + £10 shipping and £10 for the bars. Royal Mail will return the frame to him after 18 days if I don’t collect it, I’ve told him this, but he’s not responed…

I’ve pointed out that the frame is still his – he’s paid for it and I’m not prepared to refund after he’s done some work on it and possibly buggered it up!

We had a pervy woodwork teacher. He was well-known for asking the bustiest girls to cut a piece of hickory with a blunt saw whilst he stood opposite furiously peeling an orange. Sinister.

I know what you mean. Imagine being so insecure you have to live your life behind a mask of faux outrageousness with emotional and way OTT statements just to get attention.
    It would be tragic eh.

Way OTT? Insecure?? Nonsense. Just find it rather distasteful watching poor people blubbing on TV. It put me off my port! Whatever happened to Dunkirk spirit?

I’ve got a Canon Ixus 80IS that has spent the better part of the last decade rattling about in my rucksack, back pockets etc. It’s been left outside in torrential rain (full of water but dried out with no problems), dropped in mud, and generally mistreated. And it still takes perfect photos. And has that cool-looking battered patina reminiscent of an old Zippo.

You can probably pick one up off ebay for a little bit more than ****-all.

The mother blubs, the father stammers and the Chief Inspector is Tingley… Would be rude not to!

4 pages and nobody has mentioned her mother’s ridiculous hair! I just wanted to snip that silly dangly fringe bit off!

And what is it about people from that certain rung of the social ladder – they love undignified public outpourings of emotion, don’t they!

I just discovered that it has another little pocket on the hip. To say I was completely blown away is quite an understatement!

I was so happy before, but now I’m ecstatic! TWO POCKETS for 15 quid!

I keeping bursting into tears of joy, followed by brief panic attacks at the thought that I may have missed the opportunity to own one of these amazing jerseys!

Seriously, my life will never be the same again, and I owe it all to this wonderful forum. Thank you!

Greys are a bit of a problem in my wood… Well, they were until Mr. HW100 came along. Tis a lovely thing, a little unnerving at first as it’s so quiet and the trigger action is so light.
Weinrauchs are very heavy guns – I had an HW77 before this which weighed a ton – so the 100 isn’t as light as the Theobens etc, but it’s well balanced and easy to handle…
Bro has an Air Arms, not sure of the model but it’s a lovely gun and very capable for the money…

Large going spare here before I return it. I’m 6’1/40″ chest and it’s OK but the medium is a better fit.

After I got accidentally shot in the face/through my brain when I was 14, requiring major brain surgery on my frontal lobes, I decided I was bored with guns and got into cycling instead.

That wouldn’t have made me bored with guns… It might have made me bored of getting shot in the face though…

BigButSlimmerBloke, you can increase power to well over the legal limit with a simple modification (vids on YouTube) but I’ve not got bored of the standard power of mine yet. There’s something quite satisfying about seeing daylight appear through a squirrel’s face… 😉 (at 100 yards of course)

Whooooaaaah! Back off fellas, it must be true! 😉

For the record, Weihrauch HW100 in .22. End of thread.

So just a new cassette and chain?

Isn’t the hub narrower? I can’t imagine the rear mech would accommodate the wider range… Have to wait and see I suppose.

I’m planning to build an SL-4 for next year and I’ll be going down the DA mechanical route, 11 speed.

2 reasons for this, and the first one is purely aesthetic I’m afraid! The Ultegra Di2 looks shite! They’ve built it down to a price and it shows: massive servo/motor, looks clunky and ugly. I wouldn’t want it anywhere near a £2k+ frameset!

Secondly, the reviews I’ve read of the 11 speed mechanical groupset suggest it makes significant performance improvements over 7900 DA. The shift action is something like 40% lighter – one reviewer said it’s almost as effortless as Di2.

And in a year or 2, I can always upgrade to DA Di2 with new shifters and mechs…

I have a pair of Shimano Ultegra factory wheels – cant fault them. They can be had for around £250 for the pair…

I’ve tried that, and it works until midnight (or whenever it updates) and then they reset! Driving me mad…

I’ve got the printed manual and I’ve tried all the tests etc – when you do the check to see if the latest signal reception was successful, the second hand is supposed to point to either Y or N (on either side of the 3 o’clock marker). However, it points to somewhere completely different, so I think it’s completely out of synch…

Yep, I’ve done all that, it just reverts to a strange time. At the moment it’s reading 10.05 even though it’s 1.50. I could understand if it was the exactly 1, 2, 3 etc hours forward/behind, but it’s not five past 10 anywhere in the world right now!

I was at the Kendal-Blackpool stage last year and the contrast was remarkable. Spent 20 mins chatting with Geraint and Swifty, cracking lads.
But, that was the day the race was cancelled.
I have to say though, prior to a race, you just want to get in the zone and focus, listen to your ipod and go through the salient points of the race manual…

They do if they’re above a fireplace. I want to mount mine flat against the wall above a low console table, but as it’s in a corner (to one side of a fireplace), I’d like to be able to rotate it out when viewing and push it back flush when I’m not viewing. It’s a 50″ TV so looks ridiculous on a stand at an angle.

Cheers Peterfile, budget would be a bit over £600 but nowhere near £30,000!

Haven’t thought too much about budget yet, really wanted to see what options are available and then make a decision based on that…

I think it’s the use of old bikes rather than the actual bikes themselves that qualify for the term “retro”.

It’s cycling in a style that is redolent of the past.

Hushovd weighs 80kg – one of the heavier riders in the peleton. This is one of the reasons he’s the best downhill.

And 15lb of roadbike will ALWAYS be faster than 30lbs of mountainbike.

Once you get north of 50mph, even with a 53/11 gear, you’re unable to pedal so it’s all about aerodynamics.

If martymac is heavier than 80kg, I would suggest he’s got far more frontal area than Thor!

    Shibboleth

I’m saying a mountain bike is 15-20mph less aerodynamic than a roadbike.

Thor Hushovd touched 68mph in last year’s TDF, and he’s one of the best descenders in the world. To suggest that you’ve got within a few mph of one of the world’s best, on an aero bike, in lyrca racing kit on a Pyrenean descent, whilst you’re a weekend warrior on knobbly tyres and probably with baggy shorts flapping in the breeze… Well quite frankly, you’re talking utter twaddle!

I suspect this figure of 62mph has crept up slightly every time you told the story.

    Shibboleth

@ Martymac, I’m a confident descender on a road or mountain bike and I know what is possible.

I’m reasonably slim/fairly tall, so probably about the optimum build/weight for getting the most out of a bike downhill. And if you claim to have been anywhere close to 62mph on a mountain bike, I’m telling you, you’re in cloud cuckoo land.

I think if you have to ask a mountain bike forum what to wear for a meeting, you’re not up to the job. 🙄
