Looks like the whole article is based on one encounter with one person. Ho hum.

I've the opposite with acids- bearings fine in the summer, can last as little as two weeks in the winter.

Er, no Euro, it quite clearly wasn't. I'm off to take a shower, for some reason I'm suddenly feeling like I've just been somehow violated. See ya!

I feel your quandry! I would make sure you can hear a bit of latex sloshing about in there, make a cup of tea, then pull out the thorn and watch stan's special relish work it's magic!!

Pedant alert! I once read (I think it was on the excellent Sheldon Brown website) that cogs are things that are driven by other cogs, and sprockets are driven by a chain- therefore what we have on our cassettes are sprockets. Ever since then I have been slightly annoyed by the use of the word 'cog' and kinda wish I never learned the difference! However, all the mtb mags refer to cassettes containing cogs, so what's going on there then, eh?

Sorry- bit of a hijack there- the talk of cogs an' that just got me thinking….

You can still adjust the travel on non U-Turn Revs, internally with a spacer. I always regretted having U-Turn on mine, it may have changed now but the dialing in the travel you wanted isn't as quick and easy as some other systems- not particularly hard, but enough to put me off the faff. Which isn't hard in my case tbh! :-)

Tinsy- just bought some Mavic 819's on Hope pro2 hubs, came in at 290 on CRC ('custom built'- I think this means they use a machine.) I weighed them at 1.04kg rear, 0.91 front. So there you go.

Tubeless debate alert!! Heh heh. ;-)

Both the rim and tyres are tubeless ready, so it's only the valve and the sticky white stuff to be added. Most tubes that I've weighed have been about 150-200grams, but I get what you mean by the 90g race light tubes. Do they puncture much? I've never tried them, I've always assumed that someone my weight (13st, similar to OP) would see them bursting pretty sharpish…

Go tubeless! 300-400grams right there. Cost…next to nothing! Woop woop!

It's massive. Stretches from Walthamstow to way out beyond the M25. Have you been there?

Most people park by the green tea hut at High Beach. Epping is a beast of a forest tho, it really does help a massive amount if you have someone to show you around…

b r, what kind of compressor have you got? A cheap one taht didn't take up too much space would be ideal…
