I’d keep replacing the spokes, I’ve broken spokes before but it’s never left me stranded, the other spokes have always been enough to keep the rim true enough to keep spinning. In fact, I’ve been lazy enough to ignore one spoke snapping and waited until another went, and then waited a bit longer before fixing, so far it’s been fine

Cramp is caused by fatigued muscles trying to contract, which is why it is switched off by elongating them

DVT would be continuous and you would expect swelling and redness.

Yes, I would expect DVT to be more of a constant, throbbing ache

If it’s the muscle that moves your toes, then you should be able to switch it on or off by moving your toes. Worth trying your ankle as well

Cramps are resolved by making the muscle as long as possible. If it doesn’t go away with a stretch, then is isn’t cramp

What are we all thinking about Remco Evenepoel? He’s had such an amazing Tour de France, and it’s only his first. Is he going to be a realistic challenge for Pogacar and Vingegaard in future grand tours?

I think UAE have already ruled it out on the basis they don’t want him burnt out. Which is probably sensible, even if it would be an incredible achievement

Shame, I’d love to see it!

It occurred to me that the riders saying “gravel doesn’t belong in GTs” seem to be those who view themselves as “road” racers, those who are fine with gravel are those who like racing bikes. I’m with the latter camp,  it’s a bike race

Yep, there is a really conservative element within bike racing, as also exemplified by all the hand wringing surrounding disc brakes. People love gravel, so they put some gravel racing in the TdF and it was great, haiku complete

We started watching the full stage at 7pm while eating, thanks to the psa about the cheap itv sub a few pages ago it’s hd coverage (broadcast channel is only sd) with all the ads cut out.

I missed that too, could someone repost it?

I agree, watched it live, I’ve never been so glued to an entire stage like that. There was always something happening!

Or Max to grow a pair and go up against Sainz with Lawson and Tsunoda at VCARB but that seems even less likely

I’m pretty sure Sainz has said he is not interested in Red Bull

Did I just hear Lewis telling Lando he would’ve been better on mediums? Awkward

    edit: yes I did ?

    Yep, even he knew lol

‘Chemin blanc’ sounds so much better than ‘gravel road’

Does make you wonder if some of them have ever ridden off road when you see them spinning out on that climb.

Yep is was a bit weird to see so many walking, but we didn’t get to see too much footage of what happened so prob very different if you’re there

So excited for the race today. If Norris can beat Verstappen into the first corner then he’s gonna have a great chance at a win, who knew that this season might be exciting?!

Interesting P1 and P2, Verstappen on the back foot again so expecting him to take pole and sail off into the sunset on Sunday

Surprisingly little mention of why he took some time away from F1 in that article! Andrew Benson at the BBC was able to write up the same story without touching the carpet or broom once. I’ve noticed that he’s been very principled about mentioned Christian Horner’s current difficulties as much as possible too, which is the kind if journalism I can get behind!

Have rested as part of my taper and did an easy 45 mins on the turbo yesterday and by last night my knee was pretty swollen. This morning its slightly less so but still some discomfort.

I am due to travel tomorrow and start my event on Saturday, looking at the stages I think I will be riding between 5 and 8 hours a day.

How swollen was it? And how painful, and how long did the pain last? If you had to look hard to find the swelling, and the pain went away after you finished cycling, you might be ok. If it was a noticeable swelling (someone else could see it without you needing to point it out) and/or it was a throbbing pain all night then a 5 day event sounds like a massive risk to be honest. Seeing as you’re pretty much already committed to it at this stage I would be tempted to go anyway, but it would be to participate only and not try to fulfil any ambitious time goals, and be prepared to have a sensible word with yourself and pull out if (when) it starts to go sideways. Yes, to answer your q, you can give yourself a really nasty injury if you just push through, possibly but not definitely permanent, but certainly with the chance of very long lasting effects, depending on how effectively the rehab goes

Me too (despite the fact that I’m not interested in the actual event). However, anyone calling a bike a ‘rig’; first up against the wall when the revolution etc..

Absolutely agree! So annoying. And also, possibly an unpopular choice, but anyone who says ‘I’m running a…’ instead of ‘I have a..’ can get in the sea

Must have been a typo, I’m guessing you meant £250? Still sounds v cheap for a Hilleberg considering the crazy prices for them now. When did you buy it?

Star Wars meets Crouching Tiger is probably the best description.  It’s no Andor. Or Mandolorian.

This sounds about right. It’s also no Book of Bobba Fett either! I’m enjoying it a lot more than the crappy series recently (as in BoBF) and maybe as much as the good ones

The amusing thing about the D-Day furore, is that there’s a good chance this will be referred to as the moment Rishi lost the election, as if he had much of a chance to begin with

There was an interview with Sainz last year, I can’t find the clip now, where he was asked something about racing against Lewis Hamilton and he said something like ‘it’s never easy going up against an eight time world champion’. The journalist corrected him and said seven, and Carlos said ‘2021 was Lewis’s’

    I’ve always liked him

I know some bits of it are custom built for the race but info online suggests that the basic circuit including the tunnel is all rideable

I’ve always wanted to do this!

This puts Ferrari within 24 points of Red Bull in the constructors and Leclerc within 31 points of Verstappen in the drivers championships. Fingers crossed it might not be quite such a Red Bull dominated season after all

Sainz has said that he will go to the team that values him most as a driver, so unlikely to be Red Bull then!
