Like all the swoopy carbon and technology, but for a roady this one…

Or for a mountain bike, this one. Every time I look at it I have to go for a ride, it’s becoming a serious problem!

Well the police spoke to the guy who sold it to Cash Converters, but apparently he said he “bought it in good faith” and the police can’t prove otherwise…

All I can hope is that if he did know it was stolen then perhaps a near miss will make him think twice about doing it again.

I do seem to be a walking-crime wave though, as my van has now been nicked from outside my house 🙁 All properly locked (steering lock too), in a nice bit of Sheffield this time!

It does feel a bit different riding it (partly due to the wierd saddle) – I keep looking over my shoulder in case someone is about to nick it!

Will of course keep an eye out for yours Rich, hope for a similar outcome.

Yep, massive thanks to Whos_Daddy and al2000!

FunkyDunc – Good point, I won’t be leaving “proper” bikes at work any more, have a special for that now! And an upgraded alarmed and locked shed.

To his credit, the new (wasn’t there when it was sold to them) manager at the shop seemed very keen to help and to avoid the same thing happening again.

Even better news… It’s back! Policeman is coming back to take a statement but I have just triumphantly ridden home from the shop!

Best of all, the shop has a photo, name and address of the guy who sold it to them.

    Hi everyone,

Sorry – hadn’t realised I was leaving you all in suspense! The shop have taken it off sale (I am told, although the auction seems to disagree) but said they couldn’t hand it over without the police being present. I have seen it and 100% it’s mine.

Police are coming out tomorrow so I can prove it’s mine, then my understanding is we’re off to the shop to get it back.

Thanks soulwood for your voicemail, sorry I couldn’t answer. Just received it now (not the best weekend to be away without phone signal!), I will give you a call tomorrow morning. Also going to phone shop manager again to ask why it’s still on his website.

Thanks again everyone for the help and crossed fingers! Hopefully tomorrow is the day…

    Thank you all so much!

I have been on to the police this morning, they are sending someone down now, so we shall see what happens.

Again thanks very much to you for spotting it and letting me know, there will be beer rewards!

Right, thanks for all your great advice guys… As it happened I was offered an un-turn-down-able deal on the Cannondale Flash so am now very much looking forward to sunday…

    Cheers!

Cheers sheffboy, I haven’t heard anything more and the Police have said they have no leads so are giving up. Turns out the one the guys at Langsett saw was a different one.

Where was it that your uncle thought he saw it?

Thanks Jon, that’s useful info. Monday is bike day, if nothing jumps out at me in the shops of Sheffield then it’s forum and building time!

    Ah. 🙁
Didn’t see that one but did wonder about a Zesty, and a couple of other Full sussers (Yeti 575).

Anyone owned this type of bike – aren’t they a bit heavy for long XC racing? (In AR we tend to spend a long time carrying them, so weight is kind of important)

    Cheers!

Right… Am now officially on the hunt for second hand shiny bits!

Cotic would be jolly nice. Do you think you could build it up for 1400 though?

Frame 480, forks 400, wheels 200, brakes 200… All adds up so fast!

Ok, 1 vote for the Cube… Anyone else?

Your Giant is nice but a bit large for me I think matt, looking for a med.

Wow – that’s a hell of a lock! Weighs more than my dog.

You are right, I should probably get a cheapo bike or just run down more often, but I quite often go for a training ride on the way to or from uni so will probably get a bigger lock, or try to get there earlier and use the boxes!

Don’t really have the space at home for another bike either – thinking about it, I’m going to get a microscooter… Perfect solution!

Yep, I have (had) the choice of racing MTB or racing road bike to get me to work. We have some of those metal boxes you can lock bikes in, but not enough for the number of cyclists so normally it’s just the bike park.

The lock was a EBC armoured cable… Yes I know, should’ve been a D Lock! But that was in the bike shed on the road bike. I have put a second one on my christmas list!

Thanks. And you’re right of course, but if I’m not going to ride it for fear of it being stolen then what’s the point, they may as well have it as I’d hardly use it… That and I don’t like buses.

    Thanks.

Mappin Street is down near the city centre – just off West Street. University area if you know it.

It was chained to a lamp post, in a well lit bike parking area, on a busy pedestrianised street, surrounded by buildings.

Thanks. You’re right – not ideal. Have changed it to one that should work.
