Jambo, if it’s down to rights of way, it’ll still be the same next Feb.
I’ll try and get up there and spark up the saw a few more times before thw end of march. But in the meantime, diverts will naturally happen.

    40mpg.

I’ve wandered the hill more than most over the last 8 years, it all weather, throughout the seasons and haven’t seen the like before.

I’d hate to think years of radiation from the nearby nuclear PowerStations waste disposing methods have been sucked up weakening the trees…

Pixies are smaller and even my wildlife tracking skills aren’t good enough to find them.

I didn’t make it and it wasn’t mine to get rid of. The previous owner has taken all the good(rough) cider and left all the stuff that wasn’t suitable for him to sell as cider.

He’s left it for me to get rid of.

Dick. I’ll let you know. I’ll be doing it in Gallon containers.

The trail myself and Jambo put in has slightly changed, though the entrance and end is the same. I can’t comment on whether it’s currently blocked.
The chimney is all but cleared again, thanks to Brewer, i think he’s trying to tackle the last brute of a tree this weekend.
As for the other trails, efforts are being made to clear the trails of fallen trees, but the extent of it is huge.

The FC did have to destroy a trail near to ours as it crossed a Byway at speed, several times and was a hazard, signs were put up at the time over a year back.
Lots of FC work has been done in the Forest over the last 5 months, so perhaps more has gone of the original trail. I does clear the way for another should someone go pixing..

Long tailed tits are always a joy to listen to and to watch.

The long tails in the OP are more likely looking at the nest box as a night time roosting during very cold nights.

And for all you peeps considering putting up nest boxes. Now is a great time to put up boxes for your local birds and if moneys tight, consider alternatives like nailing up an old walking boot and other objects with a smallish opening.

Brewer, i’d cut to the left about 6 inches to stop it pinching due to the lack of support under the cut 😉

I’m still tempted to take the mansaw, even without public liability insurance.

If ROW and the AONB can’t get round to the big stuff.
    Hmm!
Shame to waste time and man power cutting just the wee limbs only.

    See you there guys.

I’ll take a mooch over there when I’ve a bit more than a windows phone to work with.
I’ve been asked to submit it in a comp for the BBC wildlife mag, so might as well have a stab at it.

Only when protected species are found on sites, that they get protected from development plans.

Sadly small works don’t get surveyed for wildlife as well as larger sites.

But it’s better than nowt. Waterside species seem well protected right now but getting further protection only happens once a species in known to be in critical decline.

5 weeks in and i’ve had a week in Egypt, picked up some photo’s of a topless lady when her photo’s feel from her hands at my feet(Boots photo developing section) and stopped a drunk lady from falling into a deep fast flowing river, then ensuring she got home safely. Also done a Apple Tree pruning course and finally getting round to Printing and publishing my photo’s to Market.
Another trip already planned for April, so all in all 2013 is going well.

Sorry to read others aren’t having such a a great one, i’ve been there before for years and offer my sincere best wishes to you.

Yeah, bridge grafting might help the rabbit damaged tree, but a 6″ ring sounds severe.
I take it the ring starts at ground level.

    Aw.
Not sure about living a life, but I guess I do try and make the most of my time on the rock better than many.
Pretty flat out now for a couple months.
What with doing extensive alterations to a house and have a large old apple orchard that I’ve just started some restoration work on.
Its a massive task, but I do know I’ll need my fix again soon to go out for a day and wildlife spot as the days grow longer and the air begins to warm.

Grabbing a quick break from the trees for a much earnt brew.

It’s true I don’t start many threads. TBH, I’ve little to contribute here with any frequency, and certainly not really of interest to most.
But a worthy smile! I’m happy with just the one.
    🙂

    Nope.
In some respects I wish I went straight into ecology work from school, but by not doing so, I’ve gained a much more diverse set of skills that benefit myself and others.
What I do wish, is that the education system works with students strengths, rather than trying to get a broader range of average learning’s.
    IMO

Well i call it my man cave as technically i live in it, but you’ll not see my bed.

It’s cosy, set in an Orchard and costs me nowt but a little graft about the place.

The only image outside is this.

    Comes with it’s own pets.

Nope, never been to Mull, but seen Barking Sharks in Cornwall and during the Orkney trip.
And you’ve see Storm Petrels..Nice. I don’t claim to be a twitcher in the true sense of what they are, but i’m constantly extending my knowledge of the UK wildlife.

Alpin. i was thinking more of a Fluffy Bunny, but i do see a dog like resemblance in the image.

I’m about to book a winter break by the Red Sea, i’ve yet to properly look under the waves, other than bikini gazing when i was younger.

Looking likely to be Egypt so i can go swim with some fishes, if i find somewhere down the coast without trashed Coral reefs, that the lazier tourists who can’t be arsed to walk to far from the Hotel.
Tunisia and Morocco also being considered.
And adds Maderia to the ‘To look at’ list.

Not doing Aus or NZ as only a week or two free as i’ve a couple jobs to get done first. Should be freed up for a bigger trip after March.

    Not much to say really.
It was during his Hippodrome time playing Buttons in Cinderella.

One night I tired of he’s attempts at being funny and expecting everyone to find him funny, sadly he picked on me for not laughing at him.

I tore into him with flurry of insulting and apparently comical comments, to which most of the pub laughed at, other than him
Complaints were made, i was asked to not go back( if already left to an applause).

There’s was always something about him, like he believed he had power over people because of his status as TV celeb.

I braved one internet date via fitness singles. Cycled 100miles to meet her, stayed the night then traveled back.

Perfect day really. Nice long ride, ate, nice long ride, then rode back.

That’s my only dating site experience, so I’d say thats a 100% success rate.

I’ve also met plenty of ladies via here and can say they’ve all been wonderful experiences too.

Buy in all seriousness, POF, full of desperate people.
Fitness singles, full of people claiming to be fit, just to bag a date with someone whom appears fit. Most claim to be active but aren’t, they have a gym membership…

Its probably a good way of playing with numbers and building a tally, but for you Al, you’re better off shopping at M&S. You can learn alot about a person by what they shop for.

I’ve never forgiven him for getting me kicked out of and bared from the Bunch of Grapes in Bristol.

Whatever he’s been accused of, he guilty and should be culled on the grounds of being whatever he is

    Sun baked mud over gravel/pebbles.

I decided whilst riding a bit of local coast path, to nip off the path and ride across what looked like dry mud, it was crazed in such a manner that each piece had baked like dinner plates. It was basically clay silt from high tides, that had covered a bed of golf ball sized pebbles.
As i rode over it, they rocked, pivoted and generally moved around in a bizarre way. Strange sensation and interesting sound too.
Even more odd as it seemed to be the last time i recall such conditions on a British summer ride.

I just went out as the mancave has got too hot.
It’s very dark, still and not raining at all. The Hens are quiet and the ducks are surprisingly settled, even the moon is trying to peek out from the thin veil of clouds.

Kettles on the stove and the radio has borked, so laying in utter tranquil peace, with a slide show of my years best photo’s and memories, flicking by on a screen.

The Forecast is dry and there’s talk of sunshine, so i’ll be filling the flask and packing sarnies to start 2013 off with a day wandering the countryside from dusk till dawn.

Here’s to a year of good health, good times and smiles all round.

    Cheers ya’ll.

Mines roaring like a good un.
And yesterday i built a wee log store to dry out all that apple wood that’s not been under cover, ever!

I shan’t be having a drink though as i seem to have been giving away all that whiskey i’ve got here. I’ve only got the 5 litres out of the 13 that were left by the previous apple man, and have homes for the rest to go to. So just a cuppa and an early night for me. I’m all peopled out and fancy solitude and quiet.

Become a plasters mate for a week and you’ll learn most of what you need that way.

Experience though, is what will make you a good plasterer. They can teach and talk the ass end of everything to do with plastering. But if you want to know about putting on a couple coats of multi and how to prep a surface to take it. A 4 day course won’t cut it. IMHO.

At £6-9 per sq metre, it’s really useful to learn it yourself if you’ve a whole house to do.

I’m much cheaper though. Where in the UK are you, i might be able to spend a day or two with you, with the basics, then you can work on the smaller walls, till you’re up to speed with it and can handle a bigger area..

Anna, i’ve only seen in on a 11″ screen 🙁 but i did see it live too 🙂
    Glad you like.
Bunny, every days a school day when it comes to the natural world and my quest for knowledge starts with never just accepting it’s say a bird, tree, bug, etc.
Glad you’re inspired, if anything, that’s all we all want, is for everyone to open their eyes to what we have and share this rock with.

David. I’ve looked into LULU, at first to publish my walk blog. Then as that seemed a mahoosive task, to produce a small book on Westcountry Butterflies as that’s my most extensively photographed subject.

But that means setting up a bank account, which after almost 3 years without one, doesn’t enthuse me to do.

Martin. Unlike the Obvious 8 eyes of the wolfspider, the Zebra spiders eyes are spread out more. Four large obvious ones on the front, then 4 smaller ones two on each side.

Buzz, I fixed my free hub last night, then found my brake pistons ceased when i went to replace the pads. I’ve now borked the pistons so shall not be wading/riding tomorrow. Call in to the Orchard and mancave though for another litre of Scottish mouth wash.

Anna I’ve just found the great tit image on the external HD(oh boy di I need to get a more organized filing method)
I’ll go up to the mill in a bit and use there WiFi to mail out the file to you and the SEO to whom ever wanted it.

Samuri, subtle and almost over looked eh? 😉

Redthunder. Now that would never happen. And if I ever tried such thing over on wild about Britain, it would get ripped apart by more knowledgeable people or people who think they know it all.

Which seems the norm on all specialist forums.
STW isn’t the only place that harbours morons and negativity.

In answer to Martinxyz. The spiders are only related in class, that being Aracnida. The connection stops there in terms of genetics.
Both however have eight eyes, two of which are much more prominent.
Unlike most spiders, they don’t use webs to trap spiders they hunt and pounce on them.
The zebra spider gets its name from its stripped abdomen.

Squidlord, nature is all around us and is my own therapy against having bad days.
Cougar, enjoy your new hobby, its keeping me occupied.

    Gee-jay.
It’ll take some beating, but if I get my head down and earn some pennies, perhaps a safari holiday and a month or so in Spain will reward me.
If not I know the UK has plenty more for me to enjoy.
I still Marvell at things I’ve seen hundreds of times, soaring Buzzards, the flash of a kingfisher, the raucous call of a Jay, the see-saw call of a great tit and the hum of summer Bee’s, skylarks, the laughing call of the green woodpeckers, the hoot of a tawny owl, etc…
