DGOAB I was paid to ride and be photographed on those bikes..Well they offered to pay me, i’ve never billed them therefore Future publishing owe me about 270quid.

So here me on a proper bike. No gears, and cheap clobber and roots + stupid facial expression.

I’m trying to avoid becoming one, however during my continued desperate attempt to see and photograph as many types and species of life we have in this country, recent trips out with the camera have seen me obsess over how many different bird species i can find.

It’s getting so bad, i’ve posted more on a wildlife forum over the past week, than i have on here or facebook. 😳

I’ve been wearing the longs owned by a TV star and Podium finisher today. I’ve had terrible wind too.

SB, i never made it out of Scotland after coming up at the end of August.
Reasons? Well it’s a bit lovely, the people are great and thirdly, after spring and summer in the hot south west, it seemed fitting to spend the Autumn and winter freezing me butt off up here in the higher lats.

All to change soon as i revisit the home county for a few weeks holiday(AKA bailing a mate out with a house renovation whilst his wife drops a calf)

Three of us had a return to winter ride up over the convals in Moray. Pretty much an up and down affair, but my third ride in 4 days and i can feel my fitness getting back to how i remember it. 🙂

Even the evil cold wind and snowy conditions couldn’t lessen my spirits.
Ben Lommond this coming Sat, bring it on..

    Loving riding again….

Corners? I must of missed them when i rode it last.
From what i understand, SAL goes through a continued evolution of being sanitised then re worked by locals, it’l happen again and be lubbly again, then someone will ruin it. This continued evolution will keep it interesting, the ever changing lines etc. It’s a means to an end one best served in a glass.

If flat and wide makes it boring, don’t ride it in a way to make it dull, make it fun and create new lines.

Dibbs, up in Scotland, most bizarre really, i’d been assured it would be damp up here pretty much always, i guess riding on a old sea bed at 400+ metres makes for great draining. Plenty of mud down in the dark forest trails though.

Next time buy 15quids worth of breakfast cereal, at least you can play with the box afterwards for much more fun than a 5 minute chopper can.

There’s me thinking that coming to Scotland for the winter would mean endless frost and snow.

And here we are during the first weekend of March, the tox are frosty whilst i’ve been basking on the beach in the sun again. 😉

Ask a few of your neighbours/friends if they have a set, you’ll be surprised just how many people do have then(or chimney rods)

    Cotic soul with pikes.
Was back in 06 so i’d only been riding off road for a couple of years and had already collapsed a lung and tore my acj riding like an ejet a few month prior.

This was also my first ride on substantially rocky stuff so it kinda spooked me when i first saw just how rocky the area was.

Then from the top myself and a gathering of other mongs from mlehworld began the descent, some were armoured most were on full sussers.

I found myself up with the lead 3 riders and battered and clattered my way down, only in two places did i pull up and stop, even though i’d just cleaned a harder section, albeit with more luck than skill.

No armour or FF for me, though i never do even when messing aboot on DH trails.

The simple fact is Rangers is cleanable on any bike, it’s been done over the years by many riders, only speed management and lack of confidence will effect whether you can do it or not.

I’m only an average rider so if i can do it, it’s within the abilities of most of you.

Rod it from yours out to the main sewer.
Starting with just the pipe and no fittings on it, if there’s a blockage on your run, use the barbed attachment and as started only twist in the direction that the pipes screw on, if it clears, do one final roding with the rubber fitting, if it clears it make sure you hose out your IC to remove all tissue, etc.

However it’s a modern system so the only reason it would block on your run is from a poorly laid pipe or damaged pipe. If you’ve not had an issue before it’s likely to be a main sewer issue.

Hose down all pipes after use.

It’s a bit of a pig of a climb TBH, after the last crossing where it turns sharp right(ascending) the trail is quite spongey as well as fairly steep. I’ve done it a few times but find Ladies and somerton much easier.

The alternatives out of Hodders combe are Willoughbys, short combe, the climb out up to Hare Knapp or at the far reach, up past the Dog pound.

Willoughbys is of a fair steepness, and favoured by horse riders meaning this time of year it can be mulchy, there are three root steps you’ll need to clear making it difficult to clear in oner. It get’s steeper as it climbs out into the clearing, if you keep left the trail will climb then undulate all the way back to the top of ladies, or you can go straight on and pick up longstone ridge.

Short combe is pretty much next to the trail head of willoughby’s, but instead of climbing north out of the combe it heads west up through a valley floor, it’s soft in places causing drag, then splits of to the left and climbs up a grassy trail which get very steep(this is hard work or a nice walk) this will come the the great road(track) on the whole it’s not recommended.

Heading east you can climb up to hares knapp, follow the course to somerton combe, the trail ascends a really steep loose section(after stream crossing) and there at the top a trail splits of left, somerton being to the right(straight on) it’s hard going and perhaps even a little hike a bike to get to the grassy trail between lower hare and higher hare knapps.

Dog pound needs little explanation(it’s up pretty much all the way to Beacon hill)

There’s your options out of Hodders, the other way is out from Holford combe where you have at least 6 ascending options.

    Up to Dowsborough(two choices)
    Ladys combe(pleasant)
    Frogcombe(challenging rooty section 2/3rds up)
Horizon, easiest. It’s the one that starts at the bottom of frog after the stream crossing as if your heading down the combe, it heads up to your left coming out just below Higher hare knapp.

    HTH Enjoy.

    What sort is it?

I miss shooting, used to be how i chilled out after work when i was an unloved, un-confident spotty apprentice.

You’ll need proof of land you can (permission) shoot on and good land at that. Not sure if the intended use is for clays only.

You’ll be expected to have two photographs of yourself( 😯 ) with them signed on the back by a person of good standing who knows you, doctor, vicar, judge, etc.

You’ll need a cabinet in which to store the gun, this needs to be fixed to a solid wall/floor in your property. Guns need to be registered in your name.

Things my of changed since i last had a license during the 90’s
