Hora, it really it pish easy.
Rake out existing mortar to a depth of no less than 15mm, brush out dust and loose material. Then dampen before replacing the mortar.
I’d use a 5 to 1 mix (sand/cement), on brickwork or a lime mortar on stonework. Mix to a firm consistency, not to wet else it’ll stain the wall easily. Use a plasticiser additive to help keep the mortar workable.
Various finishes can be used, weather struck is best for areas well exposed to rain. Bucket handle(half round) for general use. For stone, ragged or cut joints look best. All finishes look best brushed once firmed up nicely. When are you thinking of getting it done, i’m needing to raise some cash so would be interested in doing it for you.
Sharki.
sharkiFree MemberJambo, better in the wet eh?
That’s the steepest most craziest trail i think i’ve ever tried to ride, Saddle up the arse and silly small pedals too. Whoever thought of putting big drops, just before sharp turns on a trail pitched steeper i think than 45%..Blokes a loon!
sharkiFree MemberI have Christian morals most of the time, but don’t believe in the Christian.
For me most religions are guide lines for social existence.
They set rules to which humanity is expected to follow.
Sadly due to the many differing religions, the rules that the various Gods dictate conflict with other, creating hatred and war, it has for years. There is no one god, or even many gods. They’re are imaginary characters created by those needing control, wanting others to conform to their standards of living.
IMO
sharkiFree MemberI was on the edge of the quantocks(3 yrs before starting mountain biking) doing some building work. The client came down and announced the news and I had to ask wtf is the twin towers, I then retreated back into my bumpkin life of misery and strife.
sharkiFree MemberI’m still needing to use a stick to change down into granny if need be.
sharkiFree MemberThanks some more.
Pete, surprising the footage that can be captured with a bridge camera and a little vision, hopefully I’ll have something one day that will handle close up vids and distant action.
a months time, I’ll be hiding out in the hills trying to capture some rutting.becki, its getting dangerous now riding a bike as my eyes are constantly on the search for nature.
sharkiFree MemberThey need to eat their own body weight in food a day..
The Carabid it picked on was a sizable meal, however it is also one of the toughest armoured beetles, so would of expended an awful amount of energy in catching, killing and eating it, i suspect this one was old and missing a few teeth. 🙂sharkiFree MemberDoing well down here, though many are cankered.
Walnuts are doing great as are hazelnuts.
sharkiFree MemberYou lot are going to get canned on Friday, i can’t see it being very difficult to get you hung up in a few trees on the Sat.
BTW, i do know of a source of zider, it’s only 6.5% but will destroy you in 3 pints maybe 4 if you’re really good.
The chap that makes it lives in the village just down the road from where you’re staying and sells it at i think £12 for 8 pints iirc.
Or can be bought from the barrel, from the pub nearest the DH trails. It’s quietly potent.
sharkiFree MemberIt seems likely, they’re shy an kind of elusive deer..You’d normally hear them before seeing them.
sharkiFree MemberOrganise? ME!
It’s not like i’m never not free to turn up and ride.
They should be self organising now, with me just getting an e-mail stating: Large group of people off the internet, to meet at some random location for sweat, mud and tears, bring a bike, a sense of humour and some lurpak.
Give me a date and time and i’ll give you a location to meet and a ride to remember.
But please, make it after the affects of these antibiotics, as i need to be near a loo at all times.. 😳
sharkiFree MemberThat’ll be a whoops then.
I heard a similar story involving a cat, tragically the man whom hit the cat, found another cat sleeping under the hedge and proceeded to beat it death, mistaken identity..
But with death comes life and that’s natures way.
sharkiFree MemberThanks all.
Not the first time i’ve been told to send in a video. My shrew one got several nods as it’s fairly rare to capture a shrew, midday, trying the eat a beetle. 🙂
Ants! hee he, reminds me of a time this year when i was lying on the ground watching them carry a vast array of food items back to the nest. I ended up having loads of them crawling over me. 😕
Most of the posts i start are of this type, so should be easy to find when the winter sets in and you need your fix. I’ll be out looking for winter life and snapping/filming whatever interests me.
But first we have the Autumn, mating slugs, fabulous fungi, rutting reds and the murmuration of starlings, also much much more.
sharkiFree MemberFirst signs of Autumn!
Oh yeah, the leaves have started falling, fly algaric and other funky fungi are popping up. Chestnuts and wall nuts are almost ready the harvest, as well as a bumper crop of hazelnuts. One thing that did surprise me yesterday was the sight of wild strawberry flowers and a few unripe fruit..Summer is still holding on, just.
sharkiFree MemberI’d do it for £2500, can have me a lovely new camera then. 😉
It looks like either a single skin or Brick thick construction. Quite basic to widen, though i’m guessing quoting without looking at the job may raise questions of the possible difficulties to be encountered, access, stability of the wall above the doorway, etc.
Having said that, it’s generally a very easy task, one that should only take a day or two for widening alone.
Where are you in the UK, i’m not to busy and would like a new camera, not £2500 worth.
sharkiFree MemberNice to meet some new peeps and as always ride with the usual D’moor mob. 🙂
Damn impressive to see a half bike tackle the cleeves more bumpy trails. 8)
Thanks to Les for his huge kindness in rubber supplies as well as the tea a noms.
Greg for the cake and flatfish for the lift…
Sorry i was a touch antisocial, 3hrs sleep from a nasty tooth ache and the continued pain through the day played havoc on the social skills, i didn’t even take out the camera all day. 🙁
One spill when a gathering of walkers traditionally spread themselves over the BW in a vague attempt to clear the way for my very slow approach, momentum is key on nutcracker and giving up that for other users threw me off..Somehow i snapped of my shifter arm so careful use of rocks and sticks were then needed for down shifting if i used the granny or wanted down from my Dartmoor big ring.
Always a pleasure riding the cleeve loop and the little run down the DH would of been a little less butt clenching if dropped my saddle clear of the short snagging zone.
Shinnythings OTB may of been a result of the high levels of gnarr bearing down of him from behind, glad the love wounds are only cosmetic and not usable is early excuses for Alpine failings.. 😉
Enjoy your trips lads!
STW Ride on the Dips next, will see if i can make it..
Thanks for all the smiles chaps.
sharkiFree MemberAnyone coming down the M5 passing Taunton with room for me and my bike?
sharkiFree MemberWould like an original rubiks magic, to see i i can get anywhere near the 2.08 sec i used to when i unofficially broke the record time to do it.
sharkiFree MemberThis is pretty much a recommend me a bike thread, location really isn’t much of a factor, it’s all just trails..
The fashion at the moment means there’s quite a lot of bikes out there with 140/160mm of squidge, all will climb well and descend well with the right riders on them, however most will bias towards the ups OR downs with most favouring how well they descend.
Budget is a starter, then we can look at whether you like the idea of 2nd hand. From there, you can then start looking at your options around that price.
Now you NEED to test ride some, but local shops will limit you to Spesh, cube, marin, orange, giant and trek, most bikes should be able to be taken out for a day in the local hills, if they haven’t got a demo, they should be able to get one in(maybe) If any other bikes take your fancy, ask about on here and there could be a local willing to let you have a razz on one.
Now you’ve got a bike to try, pick a route, one that maybe you do most, something with a good mix and fair proportion of the riding you regularly do..ride it. Then do it again on another bike..be fair on how you judge them.
IMO it’s worth taking time on choosing bike, i see so many riders just get an ‘X’ brand and ‘X’ model because of looks and reviews, only to be not completely happy, then selling them on quite soon afterwards, to then the next ‘might be the right one’ bike.
For suggesstions as up there and some…
sharkiFree MemberNeil, does that include stripping the frame of all previous coatings?
sharkiFree Memberjust picked up on this.
hope you got it sorted and also enjoyed the pies.
I happen to be in the plough now.
six or kings for good workshop services.
sharkiFree MemberI’ve just finished the last of the peanut butter.
Consequently, i’m unexcited by the thought of just buttered toast.sharkiFree MemberI’ve not looked at any of the riding shots i took, only the in tent shots of random fatigued comatosed riders
sharkiFree MemberI would.
The original Ariel didn’t stand out in the crowd of mid travel trail bikes. Rode well though so great to see some progression, bringing Saracen back to a ‘would like to have’ Brand.
sharkiFree MemberHow lovely.
An image of a US marine with moobs, wearing a blanket fleeing from a giant bird, whilst holding a quiver.
Someones taking the pee big time..
Humour alive and well in the UK
sharkiFree MemberIt’s all an action to destroy the wildlife that thrives on these areas.
Once there is no more wild life, the green spaces die off thus opening up more land for development and continuation of the earths destruction.Or
By clearing verges, visibility is increased so that those riding the trails for the first time can go faster as they can see further ahead encouraging proper trail reading technique. IMO
As we know, these trails are used by more than just experienced riders. Less experienced/able riders are likely to come into difficulty should they not be able to read the trail, so a cautionary verge cutting would ease the risk of accident, therefore claimsMaybe!
There’s plenty of natural trails out there if you need to feel the glass flicking your bars..
Or
The latest craze in 1000mm bars has necessitated wider trails?
sharkiFree MemberYou can have my opinion of Cannock after my first visit on friday.
I’ll be brutally honest give a summerset wanders view point of both trails and other experiences i get there.
No promise of a Yunki’s eye view though 😉
sharkiFree MemberThe grub wagons may just roll up by 8am.
Choice of two but no guarantees they’ll be there as i don’t know there working hours. Both park on the A39 outside Holford(nether stowey side)
Best to load a camping stove, eggs, bacon, bread etc and cook your own on site..
sharkiFree MemberGraham, Tell her i wasn’t chasing a podium position so it wasn’t any hastle in loosing 30 secs on the lap..
8)
sharkiFree MemberYou funny fecker.
Not once did i experience these learnings from you despite rumours that you’d been practicing said wheezing/hacking/groaning techniques up from peck farm.
I feel like a piece of lifes necessary lessons is missing from my educational must haves.
sharkiFree MemberPlanning a swift return for said jolly across yonder moorland.
sharkiFree MemberI ran two knobbily hoops of rubber pumped up hard.
Front was less knobby on the middle and i think a 2.3 where as the rear had closely spread big knobbles throughout and a 2.2.
