No idea what bike you’re on, but do you fancy a 2 up chaingang along the A555 as a warm up?

Err, no thanks. Pretty much my idea of hell. Cycling there as well as doing the ride would probably lead to me sleeping in the carpark, too knackered to cycle home.
I’ll be in the stw unapproved silver trafic

    Room for one more?
I’ll be driving over from Timperley but should be able to get there for 6

I’ve worked for a (medical) startup, just about to start with another. Things I’ve learned:
Check the finances, how much actual cash have they got, how quickly are they spending it. Promises of new investment may not come through
Progression/promotion is only through company expansion
There won’t be a training plan and maybe no budget so you need to sort it yourself
No hierarchy means you get to influence or make decisions about the company but it can also mean there aren’t many minions so you end up doing all the tedious boring stuff too
Are the founders/investors trying to build an ongoing business or just something that they hope to get bought out, if the latter it can lead to some “odd” decisions
It can be great, I wouldn’t take much of a paycut in return for equity though. Most startups don’t end up being worth much

I dont know what standard of proof would be required. But as I outlined above the chances of me living to 115 AND managing to get zero growth over 60 years in a balanced portfolio seems remote. Yes, Armageddon might mean that the worlds stock markets all crash forever but it seems equally (un)likely that the DB pension scheme is unable to meets it liabilities.
Even with a modest 3% CAGR the SIPP would throw off about double the income with no erosion of capital

Anybody take a guess at what “charge you loads” might be?
If its a couple of grand its still worth doing.
I understand all the mis selling problems but this one seems to be a no-brainer to me
In order to be worse off I would have to live for 50 years post normal retirement age AND manage to invest with zero growth (above inflation) between now and my 115th birthday

Yes, yes there are unscrupulous folk who would have you invest in Tibetan rain forests or something and lose all/most of your money but come on

As I understand it the change is only to the requirement that employers ensure employees take a minimum of 20 days leave in any year. If you only get the stat minimum amount of leave your employer can allow you to carry some of this over into the next two years. There is no compulsion on the employer to allow carry over, they just aren’t breaking the law if someone take less than 20 days holiday this year. Anything else is contractual/by negotiation

Most of the online places give a pretty poor exchange rate.
Depending on how much you’ve got some central banks will exchange out of date currency at face value – I did this with some out of date Swedish Krona I’d forgotten in a drawer. Fill in a form, send off the notes and bank transfer to your account

It seems quite common but it can go wrong.
We ended up with a night in a hotel and paying for overnight storage of all our stuff as our solicitor managed to cock up the money transfer so we couldn’t complete. If you do it I would suggest avoiding doing it on a Friday, it was very difficult to sort out the mess over the weekend.
I never understand the level of rank incompetence in the whole house buying process, or why solicitors seem to want to complete on a Friday

Ear plugs to stop going deaf from wind noise and sena packtalk works very well. Probably overkill for what you want though (pricey) good for bike to bike intercom when touring though and voice control (works sometimes, doesnt like my accent)

Part of the problem is most people have no idea what other people earn like the guy on news night “calling Labour out” because he earns >£80k but he’s definitely not in the top 5% of earners – except according to the ONS you are

Might be better off leaving the bike somewhere else?
Stockport station has bike racks on the platforms (secure-ish) with trains to the airport. Some of the tramstops have cycle hub or bike locker type secure bike parking, none on the airport line so you might have to take two trams to get to the airport – scrap that trams to the airport take forever you could use the cycle hub at altrincham station and get the train from there

You can make hydrogen peroxide by electrolysing water (and dissolved oxygen from the air)
    https://link.springer.com/article/10.1023/A:1017588221369

You can also create ozone (o3)

Either would be effective at disinfection, not sure they’d be much use for “cleaning” i.e. removing dirt/grease.

Another vote for Kødbyens Fiskebar – went there in October, really good. As Chilli says the area between the station and the meat packing area where the restaurants are is interesting in a slightly run down – are you sure there are any food places down here? kind of way

I use a Timbuk2 messenger bag for an 8 mile (half on tow path) commute – fits change of clothes(no shoes), lunch and laptop OK. Been out in some fairly heavy rain and nothing got wet. Not that stable if you have any proper off-road

HR dept or check your contract – I worked somewhere where the contract stated whole months. I think I started on the 2nd of the month and didn’t get that 1/12 of the holiday allowance

I’d agree no riding from the door South Manchester but Sale/Alty is cycleable into town – I do it 3 days a week its about 8 miles/35 minutes (to near the uni anyway) half of it on the canal tow path. Tram works well most of the time too. Its a drive to the hills but Hope valley is an hour away, New Mills/ Goyt Valley about 40 min and North Wales a bit more than an hour

Like others have said it depends on what style of thing you want to make – and how quickly you want to do it. You don’t need power tools for most things but its a lot quicker and needs less skill to get e.g. square clean cuts. I like working with hand tools and only make the odd thing over quite a few weeks (couple of hours in the evenings) so don’t have many power tools (don’t have much space in the garage for big tools either)

Paul Sellers on youtube is good to see what can be done with hand tools (OK and in his case 30 years practice)

OP – read this  https://simplelivingsomerset.wordpress.com/2018/09/27/fire-in-the-news-liar-liar-pants-on-fire/ for a dose of reality on achieving what you want (earn at least double the average, don’t have kids, save and invest a big chunk of income 25-50%? or inherit)

Then have a read around http://monevator.com/ for the nuts and bolts of how to invest

Having never ridden before I did my DAS last year, found MOD 1 hard (failed U-turn) and MOD 2 OK. Depends on your experience I guess. I found bike control and handling more difficult as I’d never ridden before. The on the road stuff was fine having driven a lot for the last 20 odd years

Er yes – I wasn’t really suggesting Crib Goch, more that you mentioned Snowden but not a route – if he’d been happy strolling up that ridge then CMD is probably easier (just longer walk with more height gain)

    sharkey
    Free Member

Unless he and you have done say crib goch on Snowden and the edges up/down Helvellyn then the CDM is probably not the route to find out if you like heights and scrambling. I took a couple of mates up a few years ago and totally underestimated how challenging they found the exposure and scrambling element to the point where I thought one of them was going to end up crag fast – took a lot of coaxing to get him going again once he sat down on the ridge and looked down. There’s no real escape routes once you start up to the ridge from the climbing hut as coming back down the rocky steep slope would be much worse than going up

Having said that, while we were sat admiring the view (one of us shaking and eating jelly beans in an effort to calm down) a couple of fell runners skipped along the top of the ridge in trainers at a fair pace so depends on your head for heights. None of it is technically difficult (in decent weather) and it is a lot quieter and more interesting than schlepping up the tourist path.

Or – depending on where you are have a trip to Altberg factory in Yorkshire to get fitted/customised?

Thomson do one but its quite spendy

I’ve got a T-mars one you can have for the cost of postage (or pick up from Manchester). Works fine, they’re not as nice to use as spendier ones though – you have to put some weight on the saddle to release it before it will come back up.

You say cloakroom? If the room doesnt have a bath or shower in it then a socket and plug top would be fine. Personally I’d use fused switched outlet instead

What genius decided January would be good to start?
Anyway I would say something double lined (fabric both sides, less likely to get damaged but more wind chill than single lined) glued seams either blind stitched or taped. Fit is really important so need to try on a few makes. Wetsuit warehouse near cannock or Robin hood near Huddersfield both have decent ranges. You should be able to get something for 150 quid
Edit – you want 5mm thick in the body, usually 3 or 4 in arms
