I ride with the Talas on my Blue Pig at 120 sometimes, its nicer on flatter trails. You’d get on fine with 120mm particularly if its only a stop-gap.

    Chopped fresh fruit
Fruit pouches – not so fresh but she likes feeding herself
Different Pancakes (Annabel Karmel (sp?) books have good recipes
    Shreddies
    Cheerios
Toast with butter, jam or honey.

Most of it ends up in the dog anyway, she doesn’t like breakfast.

You have convinced yourself that you are superior, to an un-named person, somewhere on the internet, that you know nothing about and who has no interest in being competive about anything.

Hopefully you’ll get banned from this place like you did from the last forum you blighted with your presence.

I never mentioned my car, you did. You are the pretentious **** pontificating and passing judgement on everybody and everything else, whilst driving a diesel version of one of the most common cars in its class.

Anyway, must dash, I’ve a blow-by-blow account of my 53rd place performance in the local girls under 14 duathlon that I know the world is waiting to hear.

I have seen mid-30s on long runs but it would tend to be low 20s a lot of the time, most of the miles are in town or around country back roads.

As I said, I try not to get worked up about it. I drove all the cars in the class and picked the one I liked, its a good car for me. It isn’t depreciating much and I can’t really think of anything I’d change it for.

I’ve no interest in debating anything with you, you just come across as a complete know-it-all **** and I’m struggling to think of a car thread in recent times which you haven’t wrecked by turning it into one of your obsessive points-scoring exercises.

Mat you’ve a remarkable memory, I did have a Delica about 5 years ago when I was travelling around New Zealand. I have a MkV GTI now but I try not to let it define myself as a person.

There are some really annoying buyers who post on the thread “ygm”, “pm sent” or whatever, and then email you an offer for about 60% of the asking price.

There are also people who will snap up anything thats a bargain without ever intending to put it on a bike.

I’ve got an 08 with a set of 36 Float RC2s on it, they suit the bike pretty well. If I had the chance I would probably stick a set of 180mm forks on it, I know a couple of people who have theirs set up with 66s or triple clamps and they’re very happy with them.

You can build them up pretty light but its debatable whether its worth it, they don’t pedal great with 170mm of travel and a coil shock.

it cracked me up the new Type R had only 1 more BHP than the old one, wtf was that all about??

They did something similar between the MK5 and MK6 Golf GTI, I think they reckon 200-odd bhp is about right in a hot hatch. If they put much more power in then the engineering becomes more expensive and complicated.

The only reason he is still there is that he hasn’t got the talent to move onto anything else. I listen occasionally when I flick round the channels and its unbelievable how little music he plays.

So where is this thread headed?

Product recall for the High Rollers

    and

If you can ride them in the wet without twisting your panties, then you’re sh*t?

Google Maps directions are very good for France, they give you an image of the road sign you are looking for which helps with last-minute junction panic.

    😆

I wouldn’t say they’re unsafe, but they definitely skate about a bit in clay.

I'd take both, you probably won't need them to see where you are going but you want people to see you. At the quiet times of the year a lot of people will be pushing on, cutting corners and expecting the roads to be quiet.

My Volkl Wall Pro is totally ****, 3 dings in the toe edge and 2 in the heels including a 6'x2' p-tex repair where I landed on a rock. I really like the look of the LibTechs but I'm trying not to think about it because I don't think I'll be able to go this year. Buzz I had a Yukon, actually not the best board in deep powder because its so stiff but they track through choppy snow like nothing else.

Compared to bikes snowboards seem good value.

A couple of mates have them, they're very nice inside. They drive alright but like most cars of their type the performance version is expensive. I think its quite a well-judged car to be honest, it looks well, its decent quality, it lets you drive a "coupe" with emergency seats as a back-up.

Some people would suggest that diesel engines have no place in performance cars, its all down to what you want out of the car.

Don't worry about comparing yourself to anybody else, just try and stay smooth. If you are pushing on just give yourself an easier gear as soon as you feel the resistance building, especially on inclines. In my mind the main benefit of a higher cadence is that it keeps you below your lactate threshold for longer and keeps you smooth which avoids wasted energy – this may be nonsense.

Most of the big N America resorts are very good, Banff/Lake Louise is beautiful, Lake Tahoe has some nice skiing and scenery and is convenient for San Francisco. Breck/Vail and Whistler are also very good. The big differences are civilised lift queues, better grooming, brilliant value for money food on the hill including big BBQs in Spring. The off-piste is a bit more regulated and its hard to get ski-in, ski-out accommodation.

Their season is longer than ours but a lot of that is down to the big base, don't go too late or you'll be skiing slush.

20", with a couple of headset spacers and/or one of those On-One stems with plenty of rise. I am around your size and I went from an 18" 456 to a 20" Blue Pig.

XL in most bikes should fit, I'm only an inch or 2 shorter and I ride an L in both my full-sussers.

Don't discount second hand, with a bit of patience and scouting around he could get a real deal. There isn't much of a market for XL bikes which means there is always a deal to be done.

I saw one of those Superstars-type programmes from the states a couple of years ago, most of the athletes were from American team sports or athletics. Herman Maier absolutely destroyed them all, it was incredible.

You can't really compare across sports because they all train for different results.

If you want a specific outcome you need to try and make your training more specific to achieve the goal. There is a massive difference between unstructured and structured training, the key is to have a structure and then make all the elements as enjoyable/interesting as possible. Sessions you hate and "have" to do aren't good for motivation.

You could easily go under 10 hours next year, buy the Joe Friel book, work out a rough programme, try it, get plenty of miles in early season, plan around a few events, see what works for you.

If you are looking for a modular, flexible set-up the Adventure 4 will be very hard to beat. I usually use a helmet mount and a bar mount with the half epics, it gives loads of light for riding, even on half power. For endurance events you can put the full epic on the bike and forget about it all night. They make a very light, powerful, adjustable head-torch. With 2 units and 3 batteries it will take a lot of failures to leave you standing in the dark, and you hear very little about bad reliability.

JohnClimber did you give Ayups a chance to sort you out? Now that they are getting set up in the UK it should make it easier to get support, spare mounts etc.

I would stay on the Petit Balcon Nord, at least as far as LeLavancher. The scenery is very nice, there are a couple of wee sharp climbs but they're worth the effort. The Petit Balcon Sud as shown on your link is mostly rideable but will involve gaining a fair bit of height towards Merlet. I would be tempted to stay on the Petit Balcon Sud side of the valley through to Les Praz, then take the lift and come down past the Floria cafe (get off and walk past the cafe if it is still open). As you say it depends how tired you are, you can always take the paths through Les Bois to Chamonix, have a pint and some food and then roll down the road.

Somebody passed me in the opposite direction shortly after the first visit to the crazy cadet's water station. I presumed he had completed that section and then accidentally been redirected round it again, and had to double back.

Everyone had their work cut out at that station, they had to manage the trails crossing and it all got quite difficult because there seemed to be riders arriving from all directions in a bit of a blind panic which made it difficult for the marshals.

I was listening to a Shuffle for a lot of the race which worked well. Unfortunately it let me down by producing "A Whiter Shade of Pale" when I was buckled over my bars struggling to stay upright on the last climb. 😆

I came in just under 11 hours. It was a really great event, many thanks to all the organisers and volunteers!

I was on a 5 inch full-susser with 2.35 tyres with plenty of air in them, not the quickest set-up but I avoided any tyre problems and I was able to just sit and spin on some of the rougher sections. I'm already thinking about how to go under 10 hours next year, despite swearing "never again" for most of the last section.

The wee cadet who was running the water station at 37 miles was brilliant. We were waiting to fill our bottles, one of the faster guys came down the hill and tried to turn left and go down the singletrack the wrong way, the wee man was standing screaming "NO, NO, NO, THAT WAY!!!" at him.

Fair play to all the marshalls, a lot of people seem to go into a bit of a trance and lose all their common sense, its nice of them to keep everyone in line. When I got to Newcastleton I tried to cut the corner and miss the feed station, got redirected, then outside the cafe I presented my chip to a very bemused man who was holding a digital camera in his hand, instead of a timing box. I really hadn't a notion what was going on. 😆

I swore I'd never get another Larsen, the last one I had ripped badly on a pretty tame section of trail. I really like them as a rear tyre but I think they're a wee bit fragile in the sidewalls. Obviously my ham-fistedness was a contributing factor in this case.

Sometimes you just need to pump it up to 60 psi to make sure it's *really* seated.

Stan's solution all over the flowerbeds! 😆

It blew off, its back on with 40 psi in it but its all over the place, I think the tyre is f*cked.

    Shandy

Its definitely seated, all the way round, both sides. The little cross-hatched bit of the bead between the sidewall and the rim is an even depth. When I unfolded it last night I thought it looked a bit mis-shapen at some of the folds, but it had 50 psi in it with a tube overnight to stretch it out and it went up alright with a track pump.
