I have an 11 speed hub built onto a Salsa Delgado rim. Never been used in anger. Was built for the Bristol Bespoked show last year and put on a display bike. Never ridden. Also have 11 speed drop bar shifters to go with it. Also have a nice matching front (XT hub) brand new too.

We used to Spec the Alfine (11SP) on our Stoater (as well as a Rohloff option). To be honest I thought the build quality was poor, didn’t like the shifter and the idea of changing a puncture in the pishing rain gave me the heebeejeebees.

We dropped the Alfine and now only spec the Rohloff. I luv ’em. Built to last, reliable as heck, positive shifting, excellent warranty and backup. Although they can feel a little draggy to begin with, they definitely get better within a short while.

    – 2 cables to the device and trickier to mount than the alfine

not sure what you mean by that. If you use the external cable box, I can’t think of an easier wheel/hub to mount? I found the Alfine a complete disaster to fit.

Only mountain bikes but having difficulty not pressing buy on a Shand Stoater

We’ve done some number crunching and some negotiating which has meant a price drop today!

Also, I’m sure we could sneak a wee Leffeboy deal in there too :D

    Ben,

we put it off for ages as it’s quite a commitment but moving everything in house has been great. We’re much more in control now and can turn stuff around much quicker too. Russ our painter is very, very good and likes a challenge, so complicated masks like S&S couplers and shiny stainless stuff he eats for breakfast. We’ve been doing some restoration work too and can match graphics and logo setc…

    Cheers

When I was powdercoating my frames I think I used just about every powdercoaters in central Scotland at one time or another! Some were fine. Most were crap. The best and most consistant I used was IPF in Glenrothes. I also used EPS in Glasgow as Ben mentioned and they were pretty good most of time but haven’t had anything done for a couple of years.

As others have said, make sure they know what to paint and what to mask. Don’t just assume they’ll sort it out. Most of the powdercoaters you find on industrial estates are used to doing bin lorry chassis and stuff like that.

As an aside, we now have a full in-house frame finishing facility and as well as doing our own frames we also now paint for others too. We’re not doing powdercoat, it’s wet-paint only.

but they paid my builder direct

but they paid the panelbeater, not me

Because the insurance company will have contacted the builder/panel beater that supplied the quote and offered them the work if they accept a discounted payment. Happens all the time.

As someone else has already said, you don’t need to accept this. Contact insurance company and demand payment is made to you.

You can use road bb-7s with canti levers. Shorter cable pull than the v-brake lever ones.

Our Skinnymalinky[/url] will be available in a stainless version. Probably later in the Summer once we iron (see what I did there) out a couple of design issues.

Interesting that they make a point of stating this.

And so they should. Rivnuts on a high end frame is just lazyass cheapness in the extreme.

There’s a design fault with most water bottle cages.

Actually, the design fault is with the frame, not the water bottle cage. If a bottle boss is pulling out of a frame in normal use, the frame is either badly designed, badly constructed or both. It’s true that some bottle cages could be designed better and may prevent an issue like the described but how do you deal with that? Suggest approved cages for use with your frame??

I have a typed manuscript copy of Mike’s book. No idea why I have it or where it came from. Seem to remember it being copied in the photocopier in Rob’s basement.

is it possible to fit a modified hamster wheel to the cranks in order to make the gerbil contribute to his keep?

Not in the Northern hemisphere, they run the wrong way here. It would work in Australia though.

Just thought I’d chime in with a clarification on our “Lifetime” warranty we offer.

Because of the historically ambiguous use of the term “lifetime” and whether it applies to the lifespan of the owner or the frame, we supply all our frames with a small mammal (most often a gerbil). Our “lifetime” warranty applies to the lifespan of the mammal, not the owner or the frame.

This makes warranty claims completely transparent. We *WILL NOT* honour any warranty claims unless the claim is submitted with the original small mammal in good working (not dead) condition.

Hope this clears up some of the confusion.

That Shand does look lovely – like the colour. You racing it in 2012? Edinburgh 48 next week?

Yep, there’ll be at least one Stooshie there, probably not me though.

And a drop bar tourer, or proper mudguard, rack mounts on your crosser would be lovely.

    Like this?

Also consider if your trying to carve a niche in the framebuilding world will becoming a production guy devalue your brand.

I’m happy to be the production guy if it means I can stay in business!
