I remember collecting shotgun cartridges as a kid but am now wondering why! We used to go to a rifle range that belonged to a public school where you could unearth (literally) hundreds of spent cartridges but why were they being buried. Surely whoever did this would know that they would take years to bio-degrade!

I have had 5 operations on my right knee and my specialist informs me that I have the knee of a 60 year old. At 39 this is not the greatest news!!

I firmly believe that although each operation was necessary at the time the long term effects of 'key hole surgery' are not good.

Thankfully I can ride without any pain but forget running or rugby which was my real passion!!

    Sorry, yes I have! Thanks.

Icybox – 15MB/Sec (my NAS drive)
    USB2 – 60 MB/Sec
    TS219 – 75MB/Sec

gravity-slave – is the speed of your Icybox what you have measured on your network or what it is suppoed to run at. If its the speed you measured how did you do this (as I would like to check mine)?

I would definitely go for the NAS but then I also have a Gigabit switch so data transfer is really quick.

NAS gigabit drives are quite cheap at the moment: –

The OGA updates that have recently downloaded on my Vista laptop can tell if a license is genuine or not but if you have a genuine case then normally a quick call to MS will sort it.

My advice in the short term is to leave the machine switched on until you get it sorted one way or another.

It could be a VLK license (corporate volume license) which although non transferable would still work if the companies volume license was still in effect. If not then the license would have been stopped.

Sounds like you would have a case through Ebay!

Sounds like you may have problems calling Microsoft. You could try the hard disk crashed routine but Microsoft are really clamping down on unlicensed Office installs.

Was the laptop advertised on Ebay with Office installed?

TBH I haven't read much or enough of this thread but wondered whether Steelfans original question about the Alpha Course had been answered or did that get in way of a good theological debate? 😉

You could choose two names like the ones used in The Apprentice.

On second thoughts do you want them to sound pretentious and OTT!

TBH with car boot camping my attitude is whatever I can fit in the car/trailer. This just applies to camping gear and I would have to admit that a duvet is a bit OTT.

I have a external SATA caddy which is useful for attaching a disk like this. Where abouts are you?

    Shakey
    Free Member

It is more than likely corrupted files but it looks like you will need to remove the disk to resolve. A re-install with format would fix the issue but I'm guessing you have some important files that would need to be removed!

    Shakey

The disk may be readable in another machine if you can remove it. Is the disk SATA or IDE?

    (Really must check my spelling!!)

On some machines you get a Vista Recovery menu option which will try to automatically fix any problems.

If the UltimateBoot CD gives you a command line then you could try a chkdsk.

Have you tried the Vista recovery options which is normally available from the same screen as Sage Mode?

Just had another look and if you goto the 'Set-up Wizard' the fourth option down is 'Import Sim Card Contacts'!

Hi Plant, I'm pretty sure that my Blackberry picked up the addresses from my SIM but to make sure click on the menu button (Blackberry symbol on left of nav button) and then click on 'SIM Phone Book'.

You might want to search for all files created within the last day. Its a long shot but might work!

Hi JulianA, I have found some neat bits of code but unfortunately I only have access to the Body section of HTML and most of the examples require adding code to the Head and Body.

Is it possible to find a bit of JavaScript which will only require insertion to the Body or will I have to resort to a Flash movie?

    Thanks Shakey

Had the same problem with a machine I set-up for a friend! What type of card is it and is the reception for that network good enough in your area?

I have been with Plusnet for over 5 years and am fortunately on an unlimited package so no throttling.

I know that Plusnet run a fair usage policy whoch seems sensible bearing in mind that Broadband is a contended service!

I was going to suggest a couple of things that you should have done but hindsight is great and obviously you don't want to hear it.

I would get your statement to your insurance company and insist they contest it. The damage certainly looks it was caused by reversing so this is the line your insurance company should take.

BTW – What is the damage to her car.

Also, it sounds like she knew exactly what she was doing i.e. leaving the scene knowing that her car would be difficult to trace and that you wouldn't get any witnesses!

It has a single 1TB disk so no options for Raid.

I bought an Icybox from Novatech, put in two 1TB Samsung disks and then mirrored them. It cost a little more than £88 but is properly protected and is gigabit.

Emily Batty is getting a bit tired for this thread and she is not looking exactly athletic and aesthetic in that picture!

IME free cleaners do nothing towards speeding the machine up. They may remove temporary files and old items in the registry but nothing speeds a machine up like a clean install.

They have done that for me in the past a number of times. I think its because they hope you will forgot after 6 months, when the price goes back up to what it was originally, to call back and go for the stripped down package.

The Sonim looks good but the friends I know who have them so they have not lived up to expectations. Admittely they probably didn't treat them very well but they are meant to bve a tough phone.

The Samsung M110 however appears to be pretty good!
