No fairly typical unfortunately. I am with Plusnet and it is already on the account and will be activated should I decide to terminate!

I have a Netgear ReadyNas Duo and have found it to be really good although I have only had it for a week.

tragically1969 – interesting to hear that about disk rebuilds on thus unit.

I have also used Western Digital MyBookWorld and IcyBox's in the past and have found both to be rubbish. I bought 3 of the WD units and 4 or 5 IcyBox's and all have failed. Getting support from UK dealers or RaidSonic for the IcyBox's was a joke.

Support for Netgear is great but I am a premier partner which makes this easier. I am happy to talk to Netgear if anybody has a problem with their products.

I have had the same bloke on the phone everyday this week asking me to pay the £89. Yesterday I told him that I didn't want the cover and he has stopped ringing!!

I looked at a couple of the on-line memory shops which analyse your PC – both said that memory doesn't need to be fitted in pairs, so I could leave the 512 in one slot and add a 1GB in the other. Is this wrong then?

Your machine may not require match pairs to be installed but some do! Also, you may only have two memory slots in which case you will have to remove the 512Mb module if you wanted to go up to 2GB.

3 drives, 1 IDE amd 2 SATA. I have installed Freenas to the IDE drive but as I said it won't boot and configured the SATA drives for Software Raid.

Devid of a job to mount the raid but finally did it. I am assuming that as Freenas won't boot from the IDE drive then it is not saving the config!

Have bought a number of NAS over the last couple of years; 3 WD MyBookWorld's which all died and 4 Icybox's of which two were killed by one client but not sure if it was the hardware or the client as I have not had any problems with them. I have also recently bought a Buffalo 1TB Linkstation which seems to be okay but at times the disk is quite noisy.

I am tempted by the Netgear products but don't think you can buy the ReadyNas in any flavour for under £150!

If we are going to weigh 'in time' please can you tell us when this should be!

Everyone getting on the scales at the same time may create some kind of earthquake! 😆

You have to watch your voluntary and compulsory excesses. I am with Direct Line and at my renewal went to Go Compare and found cheaper insurance with far higher excesses. Then went back to Direct Line and upped my excesses to match and the prices was cheaper!

I have only had car for just under 2 weeks and tbh I think it will go back to where I bought it!

All dashboard lights are bright. I did manage to get car started yesterday, after a day of not starting, by turning the key 180 degrees and then re-inserting but have not managed to start it since.

Edit – Central locking does not sound lazy and glow-plug takes the usual time to go out.

Surprised nobody's mentioned Opera. I have been using for about a year and find it way superior to IE and somewhat better than Firefox. Have used Chrome but don't like it!

Thats good but I forgot to mention that it should ideally be a design view style editor and not code.

I don't mind paying for an editor just not the sort of money that Dreamweaver costs!

I have extended the system partition in Vista using a combination of diskpart and disk management. It was a right pain though!

Its got to be the figure of eight (or nine). Excellent and easy for tying loads down on the trailer!

I would cut the cord to the width of the picture and then tie a round turn and two half hitches to the 'D' rings. Alternatively, you could tie the two ends in the middle with a reef knot but it won't be as tight!

Edit – The reef knot is in the book under 'My First Knot' but is not designed to be tight as it can be easily pushed apart.

    Hi All,

Sorry I'm late but stupidly slipped on some ice and needed to visit A&E for 8 stitches. Anyway, what with the blood loss managed to weigh 5 pounds lighter. This is easy, although the pizza in the oven probably says I weigh more! 😆 😆

Although I am not a mechanic I would do the same if I hadn't actually done much work.

I find it difficult charging a customer for 5 minutes work unless I have traveled a bit to get there!

Sounds like both are N and that means you should get good speeds but wireless is pretty unpredictable.

I would see if you can change the wireless frequency on the Home Hub, not sure how its done but usually achieved by typing the address (192.168.0.1) into your web browser and then looking for wireless!

We went to the in-laws two weeks before Christmas and I thought that was it but then they came to stay on Christmas Day. They went on Boxing Day so no real problems but that was long enough for me! 😆

I have had a DG834 for about 5 years and no problems whatsoever apart from the normal 3 monthly reboot.

I would be surprised if the router was on the way out but would firstly upgrade the firmware and manually select other wireless channels.

Lastly, you could contact Netgear as they provide excellent support.

Orange Liveboxs are notoriously fussy about new devices. I had a client who had one and the only way to add new devices was to switch the security off, connect the new device, switch the security back on and connect the new device again.

Alternatively just buy a Netgear router!
