Have you got a remote monitor that sits on your desk? Or do you just happen to be near the meter?

EON supplied a meter which I have on my desk. I tend to look at it quite often 😳

Got a letter from EON a week or so ago saying we were £200 in debit and they were going to raise DD to £100 from £55. It had been at £55 for previous few years with Scottish Power but meter readings seemed correct so agreed to change it to £75.

Have been monitoring meter, which is on my desk, and average is £51 per month (unless Kettle is on and then it shoots up to £271 per month!!!)

5lab – My TV is only connected by HDMI cables (from Sky+ and Blu-Ray) and the Sky box is set to output HD in 1080i format. One thing I am not certain about is whether you need to pay the HD sub to get HD of any type even the BBC and ITV HD channels. The BBC and ITV HD chanells are the only ones that are available so maybe they are transmitted but only in SD format.

(unlike Dez I can’t really spot a major difference between HD and normal sky broadcasts when they’re displayed on a HD-capable telly – either my telly’s good with standard or shit at HD, or maybe my eyesight is poor)

I have a Samsung HD TV and I cannot see a great deal of difference between the SD and HD channels, I have looked at the BBC HD channel and flicked back to SD and no difference whatsoever. I have some mates that say the difference should be extremely noticeable and I must have the telly set-up wrong!

Edit – I suppose it could be that I don’t pay the Sky sub for HD although I’m pretty sure they transmit the BBC HD and ITV HD channels in HD even if you don’t pay the sub.

    Happy Birthday Shakey

Thanks DD. It appears my 24th and 35th birthday were on Friday so I guess this shows how good my memory is 🙁

It my birthday so thanks iDave for remembering. Nothing normally goes awry when my birthday is on Friday the 13th although the last one on Friday I can remember was on my 18th (I’m now 41).

A young kid was hit by a car close to our street party last weekend. After the impact on the bonnet he smashed the windscreen and rolled over the car. He walked to the pavement and collapsed. Thankfully he was okay but needed to go to Hospital. The paramedic reckoned that he would have to induce a coma after checking the damage to the car and was mighty surprised the kid was conscious and talking.

ok, the problem is there’s a clash between HTTPS and HTTP. WHy are you using HTTPS?

Not sure, it is probably the way the build your own site has been set-up – I will investigate!

That’s pretty interesting, no-one I know uses IE anymore.

As _tom_ says most people use IE. If you look at any hosting stats people using IE vastly outweigh any other browsers put together!

nbt – it is an iframe delivering http content. Is there a way around it?

    Hi Keith,

TBH this isn’t easy but I have done it three times in the last 10 years for my grandmother, my brother and for a friend at his wife’s funeral. My advice would be practice, practice and practice again to make sure you don’t stumble over the words.

I also treated it as a great honour so a little emotion is good. If it makes it easier then don’t look at family members when speaking, if you feel the need to look up then just look at the congregation in general.

I think he’s saying its a motherboard problem and beyond economical repair. If he plugged in a monitor and got the same problem then he’s right, if not it could be the LCD screen which is way cheaper than £300!

iPhone unless you want something that does emails and phonecalls but not much else too well. iPhone will give you the emails, ipod, apps, games and a pretty good GPS all in one device.

Other option worth considering over blackberry is an android, why have 2 devices when one does the job.

The Torch is a massive improvement on the Bold and I use it for everything including GPS. It doesn’t do games that well but it a phone FFS.

You Fanboys should really take another look!!

I have an HD+ plus and you definitely get some HD channels without needing an HD subscription. Also, just checked Google and you do get HD channels with Freesat.

    Shakey

You would get a lot of the terrestrial channels and as they transmit BBC1 HD and ITV1 HD without an HD subscription you should get these as well.

druid – Yes, it is all part of the grieving process but everyone treats it differently. My brother passed away in 2008 on the day after my birthday and I was pretty much close to tears every day for about a year.

The one consoling things is that time does heal – only thing is that I can’t tell you how long this will be

I found that if the DGN1000/2000’s have a problem with the ethernet ports they can be set to fixed Ip’s. Could be a design floor but Netgear’s customer service is great so will always go with them.

Well, its not muppet proof but seems fine to me!

Not sure I like to be referred to as hard of thinking or out to find fault by hey ho!

Just think it would be better to have a permanent sign that says ‘Risk of Ice’ or ‘Skid Risk’. As I said it is not something that bothers me as I drive to the road conditions.

    Shakey
    Free Member

thisisnotaspoon – My comment is based upon the fact that there is only a temporary ‘Ice’ sign where there has been an accident. One was near a farm with potential field run-off but another was on a roundabout! Initially I did slow but soon realized that as it was warmer then obviously there is no ice.

Do you think that there should be more signs put up that may serve a purpose at a particular time but in the future are just a bit pointless?

globalti – I live in the sunny south so tropical compared to you. I suppose I would hav to agree that it can get down to freezing overnight but this is the first year I have seen the temporary ‘Icy’ signs. I would still have to say that if you drove according to the conditions, which is well over 90% of drivers, you wouldn’t need the signs!

I have used a number of different NAS devices and would say steer clear of the Icybox, I had to replace everyone I bought (4 in total) and this was from a recommendation on STW. At present I have a Netgear ReadyNas Duo which seems to be okay if a little slow and a Netgear Stora which is fine but seems to have sleep mode, which I haven’t switched off, and takes a fews seconds to wake up.

Found out today that Sky do transmit certain channels in HD without needing an HD subscription. These include BBC1 HD and ITV1 HD. Not sure I can tell a great deal of difference between SD and HD so is this something to do with transmitting in 1080i instead of 1080p?
