Just because Zone Alarm no longer supports Win 2000 this shouldn’t prevent you from using it. It will still work but won’t be updated.

Alternatively, I think Comodo is still win200 compliant!

Are you running XP or Vista?

If its Vista then you should remove anu entries to audio devices in the device manager and reboot. After the reboot the devices will be picked up again and should work.

Had this a couple of times myself!

Whilst working in my first job as a Honeywell main frame operator I loaded the system disk on all disk drives with the bosses permission. The disk had crashed all 12 heads on each disk drive and resulted in a £65,000 bill and about a days downtime.

I went on to work there for another 7 years before becoming an IT Manager!!

Definitely in the jacket pocket. I lost my driving license and turned my office upside down looking for it, found it a week later when I next out the jacket on!

If you didn’t write down the code then you will need to enter a new code.

All you need to do is type it in on the Wireless Security screen and save/apply. You can then use the new code on your telephone.

crazy-legs – the ‘show characters’ tick box is only available when you are entering the code for the first time. When you have saved/applied the code this box will disappear.

Gav – in IE try Tools, Internet Options, Connectionsd and set to ‘Never dial a connection’. This way it will alwasy use the network connection.

Whatsit – The Netgear DG834 is an excellent router, have had one myself for about 4 years but not with Sky. I believe they stopped supplying the Netgear routers because they could buy the Sagem ones cheaper and with the pre-configured userid/password they can save costs here too.

I am with Plusnet who have been good to me but I have heard some stories about them as I have with most ISP’s!

eckinspain – I was following Rudeboys thread about BT and was trying to be humerous!

Also, I don’t agree that 99% pf the customers never need this info. I think that 99% get fobbed off and either stick with the router, get Sky to swap it for another or leave. Ironically the supervisor I spoke to completely agreed with me and said that he was embarassed that he had no answer for this question and he had been asked on numerous occasions.

kimbers – I doubt the problem was related to the crap Sagem routers but I reckon they are cutting costs and these routers are an example of this.

Cooroo – yes, I must have an ‘ireless’ network in the office as its very stable but then it is on a Netgear router. People have their own opinion’s on the best make of router but I always recommend Netgear. I don’t think I have seen anything worse than the Sagem although the old Homehub’s from BT were pretty shocking.

This is the website I used to generate the userid/password: –

    https://www.cm9.net/skypass/generate.cgi

As I said before I am aware the T&C’s of the Sky contract say that you should use their Router but the Sagem thing is absolute rubbish if you want a decent ireless network.

I replaced it witha Netgear router which provided a far better wireless signal.

To answer your questions fannybaws XP Home will do what you want i.e. it will connect to your Broadband and all MS Office stuff will work.

Samuri is correct that it is not a patch on Pro but I am sure you will be fine from home as long as you are behind a wireless router and have decent security packages i.e. AVG and Spybot

Sounds like some sort of Malware.

Download Malware Bytes Anti-Malware and this will sort the problem. You may need to download it on a different computer and copy it across using a memory stick if you cannot get to the right website!

    Is it Vista?

I have seen this before with USB pen drives but not Cd’s. You need to delete the USB devices from the Device Manager, not too sure about the CD drivers though!

I would go to the Samsung website and download the latest driver. It would not be unusual for Windows to wrongly report it has the latest driver.

Careful how much you buy coz 32 bit systems (standard XP Home/Pro and Vista Basic) can only handle 3GB max.

Should be easy to upgrade as there should be a panel covering the memory which will need to be unscrewed.

Slot it in and away you go!!

Looks okay but its only going to recognize 3GB of the 4GB memory as I believe it is 32bit. The AMD Turion 64 X2 may slow down a bit over time but with what you intend to do it should be okay.

The Lino is on screed and want to get it up as I want to stick it down with proper/3 hour adhesive and not the 48 hour stuff if we tile over the lino.

Hasn’t had any effect on STW though, its still slow!

My consultant has told me that I have the right knee of a sixty year which at 38 is pretty bad news. Cycling is fine but no running for 5-6 years.

He says that it won’t be replaced until I’m 60 so I have to be careful.

I have been referred to an osteo-arthritis (sp) specialist who will inject the knee with cortisone. I am tempted but any subsequent injections do not have the effect of the first so I am holding of this for the moment.
