1930s semi with lots of cracks in the plaster like yours. I’ve always put it down to the clay sub-soil contracting and expanding over the seasons, but I might be totally wrong.
    Nothing to worry about.

I’d list out the spec and send them some photos.
Say it’s custom and give them your best guess of purchase price, just make it clear you’re not sure.

@marps85 you did nothing wrong and you have been assaulted. This sort of behaviour can’t be tolerated as they’ll keep doing it. You should report this to the police.
The off duty police officer obviously didn’t understand the law, but they will be a witness to the crime and should be traceable by the police. On or off-duty makes no difference, a police officer always has the same powers of arrest and a duty to uphold the law.
I like to think if I was in this situation that I’d hold my ground, but there comes a point when your safety is at risk that it’s best to capitulate.

@cloggy you appear to have a fundamental misunderstanding of how the law in England and Wales works. I hope the NAFW had others advising them on the law.

There’s been quite a few threads over the years on here about the legality of footpath riding and I’ve done a bit of my own research. Some of what is written above is spot on and some falls into the category of opinion stated as fact.

I’d summarise that it’s not illegal (byelaws excepted), but if informed by the land owner or an agent thereof, then you must stop riding immediately and may proceed with your bike as a pedestrian on the footpath. You are liable for any damage but simply cycling along is highly unlikely to be taken to court and to my knowledge never has been. You do not need to provide your details to the landowner, which also makes a private damages claim difficult.
PSPOs (Public Space Protect Orders) could be another interesting way to ban cycling on footpaths, but so far I’m not aware if any have been used in such a way.

Furthermore there has never been case law for pushing bicycles. Say I was walking my bike in a pedestrian precinct. That’s fine as I’m walking thus a pedestrian, just as someone pushing a pram would be. Footpaths are for pedestrians so surely as I’m one whilst pushing my bike I’m legal. Never been tested and won’t be as a case would be prohibitively expensive.

See ‘Crank v Brooks’. A pedal cycle being pushed is classed as a pedestrian.

    and then @cloggy wrote:

It is and has been since the early 50’s an offence to ride on a public footpath.

This is incorrect. I think you are confusing ‘footpath’ with ‘footway’ as others have said.

That chart appears to be accurate according to the latest position, it’s by the KM151 red channel buoy and the little inlet. There’s very shallow water to the east of the channel. Depths on the chart will be lowest astronomical tide (LAT) so high tide (I believe it’s tidal there) will give a bit more water

Given the huge significance this has on European trade, I’m surprised that European military assistance isn’t visibly on the ground by now, rather than just the few local chaps with their diggers.

I buy bright dog poo bags and often leave them behind trees or signposts if I know I’m walking back down that path on my way home and there isn’t a bin in the direction I’m traveling in as I’d rather no carry a bag of poo around. I’ve never forgotten to pick up a used dog poo bag.

I think quite a few entitled dog owners hold this opinion, by the number of bagged shits I see by the side of the trail. I’ve seen people do it and have mentioned it to a couple who have said they’ll pick it up later. I don’t want to see your animal’s shit on the side of the trail and I don’t want my kids getting it all over them. Take it with you.

I will pay for it if it isn’t covered on the NHS (but this is quite severe over-crowding on her top teeth)

NHS are paying for my son’s work @12yo. They’re removing 4 teeth 😮 and then fitting braces. The work is outsourced to a fancy private orthodontist.

I love what Alpkit do, but when I can see the exact same product in the “sale” costing 26% more than when I bought it 2 years ago (to the day) I start to think that they’re following the Planet-X sales model

    Lots of incorrect answers above.
Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill will not make cycling on a footpath an offence. It will not change the status of this activity in any way, it will remain a civil matter.
The Bill will however (if passed as is) make it an offence to reside on land with a vehicle. It’s targeting the travelling community, not cyclists.

Do the grease repack first. My XT M785s started to get a little wobble and this fixed it. Lots of rides later they’re still fine. Shimano pedals are virtually indestructible.

I’ve been (cynically) using the environment argument with my wife all through lockdown to avoid getting a dog.

One way to lessen the impact of dog food is to switch them to a vegetarian diet. Unlike cats, they’re omnivores and can happily thrive without meat. There’s a fallacy that dogs are just tame wolves so they need meat.

Just wait till you get a bill for 6 grand in a few years time !

Your meters are still recording so whenever they decide who does supply you, the instant they take a reading of the meters theyll know how much you’ve used over x number of years.

Your maximum liability for ‘back billing’ is 12 months. Ofgem rule.

CamelBak Mule 3L from around 2000 which has been on all my MTB rides. This might be its last year as the rubber on the expansion pocket is starting to deteriorate, which is a shame as the rest is near perfect.

Batteries are not sustainable or environmentally friendly and just shift the damage done to the environment from the end user to the supply and manufacturing chain and end of life processing and disposition of the used batteries.

I hear this argument quite frequently but I’ve not been able to find any evidence to support it.
Batteries might be far from perfect, but they’re a lot better than current ICE technology in reducing carbon emissions and eliminating local NOx emissions which are so damaging to health.

    Training.
When I dislocated my shoulder, the A&E consultant got all excited and asked if I’d mind a military medic looking at it, because it was a posterior dislocation and they are quite rare, but more likely in warzones. I’d been riding at Haldon Forest 😁

Some things in life one just does not need to think too much about (particularly when the questioner will not be the user)
I have the aforementioned Russel Hobbs. Does the job just fine. Boils water.

It sounds like you don’t really know what you want the watch for.
If you just want to try it out without spending much, I’d suggest picking up something like the Garmin Vivosmart HR+ (must be plus) for about £20 off eBay and see if you find a watch useful.
If you do you can upgrade later.
Maps on a watch is a big compromise and I don’t know any that do coaching (but many show pace)

I was a big fan in my youth when they did the Hit Parade singles. Seen them a few times at Leeds Met and some place in Huddersfield I can’t remember the name of.
I’ve drifted away from them, but after this thread I think I’ll dig out the old albums.

Has anyone else spotted the rehearsed answer that all government ministers are using regarding the court judgement?

“So sorry, but we were very busy fighting the pandemic, so we published two weeks late, but really it’s a minor issue”

The problem I see, is that Jo Public and most of the media has swallowed the line, without hearing any of the detail, so GLP come out as trouble-makers, squabbling over a technicality.

The reason GLP needed to take this case to court was to force the government’s hand to publish the data. Now it’s been published, it’ll be the next case which hopefully will expose the corruption and then I hope heads will roll.

If it was just BBC TV, then maybe not. However BBC is so much more and I happily pay the “TV” license for all that it offers, even if some of that is currently seen as free.
Stop funding the BBC and you’d lose the 5 excellent radio stations I regularly listen to, the website and the local output.

Getting the sound to multiple sets of headphones will be your biggest technical issue, unless you live miles from your nearest neighbour.
Anything else would be very antisocial.

    I have the 2017 A8 version (29er 120mm non boost).
I’m used to riding a Pike. When I first got the Reba for my XC bike I thought it was broken. It hardly moved when applying pressure and is hard to set using sag. However it does work when things start to get rough and rocky and doesn’t bottom out too easily. It’s just a different experience to the Pike or your Rev.
I’ve read that adding tokens can make a difference to small bump sensitivity, though I’ve not tried this yet.

I’ve heard nothing of this, so I don’t hold an opinion. However isn’t the point of a National Park that it’s for the benefit of the nation rather than just the local residents, who might end up inconvenienced but ultimately it’s for the greater national good (i.e. more restrictive planning)

The weakness is the padlocks which the extra secure version doesn’t use. The supplied disk padlocks are not very strong. Much stronger versions are available from Abus, which would further slow the attack. It’s then worth having the bikes chained to an anchor inside as your next layer of defence.
No solution is perfect, as with any security, you’re just trying to make it simpler for the thief to steal from someone else.
    * I wrote a different version of this post with much more detail (like steel thicknesses) but it sounded too much like a thieves handbook!

I’ve looked into this as my maternal grandparents were Irish. My mum (born outside Ireland) got her Irish passport last year which was relatively simple, just involved getting birth/death certs and getting UK passport etc witnessed.
For me I’ll have to go down the Foreign Births Register route, which seems fairly simple, though can take 12-18 months and costs €278, plus the passport cost. Doesn’t need a lawyer to get involved.
I thought great-grandparents didn’t count, but it may depend on whether OP’s mum was Irish when he was born. This might be where the lawyer comes in useful.

Advantages: sitting having a coffee whilst my wife and kids wait in the non-EU line 😂.
Will also be able to spend longer than 3 months in the EU after retiring.

    +1 for a cafetiere.
I’ve taste tested various supermarket ground coffees in a cafetiere and an aluminium Moka and decided I prefer all in the cafetiere. Though reading this thread has made me wonder if I need to repeat my experiment with a steel Moka!

Police wouldn’t tell us if the other guy, who was on his phone, was prosecuted

This doesn’t sound right. You have a legal right as a victim under the Domestic Violence, Crime and Victims Act to be informed if anyone is charged.

Not a real believer in paranormal

Yet as soon as something unusual happens you think something paranormal could be happening rather than think of logical, scientific explanations.
You’re a modern example of how humans developed mythical beliefs and religion, because you need a single answer, even if the answer is ghosts, witches and wizards.

-7.5° on the Garmin when up on Cleeve Hill, Glousc. this morning, with a bitter wind. Ground was frozen solid, even the deep muddy puddles. Brilliant to get a brief reminder of what summer riding is like 🙂 I even saw some frozen dust being pushed up at one point from my mates wheels!

Most of my riding is natural and with covid I haven’t been to a trail centre for over a year.
I can see with the growth of ebikes that this type of rude behaviour will inevitably increase as the difference in rider speeds (particularly up hill) becomes wider.
I’m no ebike hater, I’ll probably on one myself in a few years, it just seems that we may need to rethink how trail centres are used for this new future.

Depends how tall they are, as they’re at the top of the range for the kids brands. Isla Beinn 27 would be perfect for the use you describe, but they might outgrow it very quickly, especially with the puberty growth spurt just around the corner.
For your budget, it’d look at adult XS or small second hand (do they have to be identical for twins?) and aim for 27.5″ or 700c wheels. Something like this Boardman hybrid on ebay
