Those prices look more like a liquidation sale. I hope this isn’t the end of Islabikes, they’ve served my kids well in their younger days.

With my RNLI hat on, I would wonder why she was there in the first place.

This is very judgemental. It’s not the role of the RNLI to stop people doing risky activity. Educate and inform, but not restrict.

If we look to take all risk out of society we’d soon be stopping mountain biking.

I’ve got the OEX Phoxx 2 v2 as I found the Phoxx 1 too tight for me. It’s 2.1Kg so far from light but it’s got plenty of space for keeping kit inside and gives me a good night’s sleep. I got it for £84 from GoOutdoors with a discount code. The quality is pretty good for the price.

I looked at paddling around the Dart estuary recently. I couldn’t find any campsites near enough to the water to land/launch your canoe. Wild camping would be tricky to be stealth as it’s a busy area.

Check out gopaddling.info which has lots of useful maps of rivers including the Dart, with access points, danger points like weirs and points for portage (getting in and out)

Also might be worth getting the South West England Paddle Boarding 100 places to SUP, Canoe & Kayak by Lisa Drewe which has lots of good routes

You may be better doing 2 day trips with a nearby B&B.

Whatever you do it’ll be good fun, it’s a lovely area

it’s delivering to Jersey, not just billing there and sending to UK. In that instance it’s an export so non-VATable. CRC make it clear they are not charging VAT, just an amount equivalent to VAT. None of this money goes anywhere near the Exchequer.

I’m 183cm and Canyon recommend M/L for the 2023 Neuron. I’d never consider a M. I did a demo on L and XL and came away preferring the XL for its extra stability descending, though looking at the figures I should be on an L. I found the reach on the L a tad too short for me.

Canyon may still have some demo events coming up.

I was impressed with the bike, I found it better than the Spectral, though I haven’t bought one yet.

The guys at the top need to be fired, it amazes me how Wiggle have managed to destroy their business via a disastrous IT change at a time when Brexit has blocked all EU competitors and business should be doing well. They should have just left it as it was.

30 years of riding mountain bikes and I’ve never thought about this one. Though I don’t think I’ve ever created a maintenance issue because of the gear I left my bike in on the previous ride. There’s plenty of things to do maintenance wise before I’d worry about this.

Swimming a couple of hours a week.

I’ve swum all my life. There’s a steep curve to learning at middle age, but once you’re reasonably competent it’s excellent all round aerobic/anaerobic fitness. It’s also great for mental health as being in the water does something special to the mind.

I went to the Canyon Demo day at the FoD at the weekend. I had my eye on a Spectral CF8, but I was most impressed with the Canyon Neuron CF 9, which fits the criteria of what the OP is looking for. Light and fast with good handling on the downhills. A bike you can ride all day in the hills or do bike park reds on.
It’s a new frame spec for 2023 which has fixed the negatives of the past model and made it more modern geo. £3849 for full carbon frame and wheels and XT components and Fox dampers is pretty good money these days.

Are they trying to drive all their business to other sites? I tried to find a chain ring on CRC and all I get back is out of stock. Launching the new site without the filters of the old one is insane business logic. Anyway, I did find out that Superstar Components have 50% off spend over £100, so I went there.
(sorry I can’t find the CRC thread – can someone link to it please?)

Aviva were best for me last month. I cancelled my Admiral policy early as a new bike in the family took us over their limit. No such limit with Aviva and they cover bikes in outbuildings and no need for Sold Secure Gold locks for away from home (which Admiral made me do)

    What Bunnyhop said.
I unexpectedly had a wisdom tooth extracted last week after getting severe pain. About a third was filling. it took the dentist over half an hour to get it out. It stopped bleeding after about an hour. It’s supposed to clot quickly. You need to get it seen to asap.

£250 as no NHS dentists in my town anymore 🤨

As above, you need a crew cab van. Google your way through the options. Northgate seems ok.

I spotted this during the rugby yesterday. I wonder who the older rider is. Possibly a Kiwi- the earlier Lloyds horse ads were filmed in NZ.

Look at BBFC and you can make your own judgement on what your kids are happy with and what you want them to see.

Films classified 12A … contain material that is not generally suitable for children aged under 12. No one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult. Adults planning to take a child under 12 to view a 12A film should consider whether the film is suitable for that child. To help them decide, we recommend that they check the Ratings Info for that film in advance.

I’ve been using Squirt exclusively on all my bikes since 2015. I’m a big fan.
The tips are all in the replies above but to summarise:
    – start with a clean chain
    – warm the bottle in winter
    – apply a dot to each roller
    – run the chain round a few loops to let it cover the rollers
    – let it dry
    – hose down when dirty and use a chain cleaner tool if very dirty but don’t use degreaser. Dry with a rag and reapply
    – in the dry wipe with a rag every 5 rides or so and reapply

I’ve used Premier Inn at Hengrove Leisure Park for an early flight. It’s about 10 mins drive away and will be cheaper than the on-airport hotel.

TeamViewer QuickSupport will allow you to remote onto an Android device to launch apps. It’s free for personal use. He will have to start the receiver app and allow the access each time.

I restarted the router and it connected.

There’s a spot on one of my routes where I approach a gate at speed after a rocky descent and it always goes off there… other than this weekend. Maybe the new update has had unintended results.

Bit left field, but could you just fake one? Completely phoney doc name and address and a nice rubber stamp (French authority loves those). They’re unlikely to check from Paris.
I don’t think you’d be at risk of a fraud charge if found out (you may get blacklisted though!)

It seems to be they will charge whatever the British public will tolerate. By comparison at Alicante airport in Spain you still get a 10 minute free drop off right in front of the terminal and they’re building more spaces, which will also remian free.

Not enough info to be conclusive. It would depend whether showing to the other people was in support of the original purpose for which the data was provided.

When I bust my 520 screen Garmin offered me a refurb replacement for £95. I went for a 530 instead.
The black Friday deals on the 530 have just come in so £160 is a good price.
let us know how you get on fixing the 520, I couldn’t find a screen for £20 from China.

Cheltenham has better restaurants, but you have little kids so a chain place will be fine. Gloucester’s got some really interesting history if you can dig it out amongst the grot spots.
For a couple of hours stop, I’d park at Hare Lane, walk past the cathedral (maybe a quick peak inside – Harry Potter bits), then onto the docks and find your preferred chain restaurant.

Engine on or just ignition on? Idling on a campsite is very antisocial.

You’d be better off buying a bigger power bank or two to charge before you leave.

The salary reflects the high living costs in Jersey and skillset needed. A 2 bed flat with a parking space will set you back about £1800 a month. Food costs are also much higher than the UK; Waitrose is one of the cheaper supermarkets.

Aside from that Jersey is in desperate need of someone to do this role. It’s ripe for development of cycling as a viable means of personal transport, yet the motor car dominates in a small 9×5 mile island, and cycling infrastructure is limited.

And then there’s the undoubted criticism you will get from the general public that this role is a waste of money. The Facebook comments when this role was announced were vitriolic.

Someone like Adam Tranter, west midlands cycling commissioner is what they need.

Great place to live for a few years of you can afford it.

    P.s. poor thread title

I fought RSA (Nationwide) on this exact point and won. Either they have changed the policy in the last year or they still don’t understand what they are selling.

Here’s the thread I wrote (scroll down to read the outcome). Worth others reading I’d you’re considering Nationwide.

Nationwide Home Insurance bike theft claim – outbuildings limit warning

Lots of home insurance covers public liability.

Would that include when it’s your fault and would they then increase the premiums on the entire insurance?

Being your fault means you are liable, so yes. There might be some extreme examples where they could argue you didn’t take reasonable care, but it’s highly unlikely (using a phone?).
It will increase the home premium if there is a claim, but I think it’s such an unlikely event to be sued that I’m happy to take that risk. Having bikes stolen once saw my premium go down – figure that one out!

The Lockerpod gold is the only viable alternative, though it is a ugly hulk which makes the Asgard even more appealing.

    @tenacious_doug
it’s all Asgard sheds which are 12-14 weeks lead time. I rung them and they said everything is currently made to order. No plans to step up production.

I got an On One Whippet for my 11yo daughter who is 152cm. Fits really well and being carbon frame 29er with a rigid carbon fork it’s light and fast enough to make me have to put effort in to keep up with her!

In defence of “is it still available”, that is one of the default messages FB gives you. Loads of stuff just gets put up and forgotten about, so it’s a good starting point for the conversation. There a bike up there currently and the bloke has told me it’s sold, but it’s still listed over 5 weeks later.

Crank v Brooks was the case I was trying to recall. It’s mentioned on p7 of ^ that Cycling UK paper. Once I read this years ago I decided if ever I was challenged riding a bit of cheeky FP, i’d dismount and become a pedestrian (quoting Crank v Brooks if needed 😂). So, well within your rights, especially if you had dismounted. (ByeLaws aside)

STW has had this thread a few times before

RoW question – is pushing or carrying your bike on a footpath legal?
