All trails can be ridden and I’ve never had problems with walkers, just remember it’s not a trail centre and expect dogs and kids to appear from no where.
Lecky is way better than Cleeve in the winter.
I’m off there now.

I just reviewed my contract with Virgin and got it down to £17.50 for unlimited 50Mb bb plus basic phone with unlimited weekend calls. I then bought a £170 Humax dtr-t2000 Youview box for recording and catch up TV on the freeview channels plus you can add a Netflix subscription. Works well for me.

John Torode, he from Master Chef, made some good looking ones on the ITV4 cycle show earlier this year. Let us know if you find the recipe anywhere. His tip was covering them in rice paper.

Speedo Biofuse every time for me. Bog standard, they wont make you any more attractive or swim faster, but they work well.
Tried a bit of spit to reduce the fogging?

What makes you think he’s too big for the cnoc? I’ve found following the size chart works for my kids. What’s the rush?

I just bought an AA plus policy. After spending way more time than I wanted to reading T&Cs, here’s a few things I learnt about this policy:

Cover is for £7500 in your sheds/outbuildings, but only £1000 if away from home in someone else’s shed/outbuildings[/*]

Don’t leave the bike out unattended within your garden etc as you’re only covered for £1000 in the open within your property boundary[/*]

Max £2K cover in a vehicle and only if it’s covered[/*]

Covered up to £5K away from home if unattended and locked to something[/*]
Some good suggestions thanks guys. No parking issues though chip.
I’ve reported it to the police but they weren’t interested as there’s no evidence to investigate.
I think I’ve worked out how they found the car. My user name on eBay and Twitter were the same and twitter had my name (which isn’t common) so they can look up my address from my name with something like 192.com

That’s an uncanny coincidence Orangeboy. I’m in Gloucestershire where are you?

Winning bidder pulled out when I told him Pook.

Random wazzock, johnj? Then why not trash my decent car parked next to it? Though I suspect you are right, some people’s actions just can’t be rationally explained.

That might be it csb… I was thinking of going back to one of the BIN guys to see if they want it cheap. Thinking twice about it now you’ve said that!

No it’s a bog standard car. No one’s asked to view it and I h haven’t given out my address. Just my town is listed on ebay

I recently ruptured my spleen in a crash. I’m not back on the bike for a few more weeks but I’ve just bought a Troy Lee BP 3800 vest which protect the ribs and core. Obviously I’ve not worn it on the bike yet but it fits well and will give some protection. Price is reasonable too. Being a vest it should be a bit cooler than a full shirt and it doesn’t make me look like a storm trooper over dressed for my local xc loop!

As it sounds like you’re going now, here’s some more ideas

> Breakfast at El Tico on St Ouen’s bay (even better if the tide’s high)
> evening BBQ on St Ouen’s bay watching the sun set (again better at high tide)
> Simple shellfish lunch from the German Bunker at L’etacq (Faulkners Fisheries)
> Climb (steps) down to Plemont bay – one of the best on the island (covered at high tide)
> German War Tunnels for history
> Elizabeth Castle out in the town bay
> Kayaking with these guys
> Shopping in St Helier if you like that, but most things (everything?) is cheaper it the UK. Take a walk around the marinas afterwards to admire some expensive yachts.
> Day trip to St. Malo with Condor Ferries

there’s loads more!

For me a Jersey summer holiday all depends on the weather. I go every year and last year was amazing with fabulous weather in July. If it rains there’s still plenty to do for a first time visit.
Forget about MTB, there’s way better in the UK, but a road bike ride around the island would be good.
Getting out on the water is also fun. Kayak hire is readily available and you can try coasteering (it wasn’t called that when I first did it!) Around the north coast to see some hidden bays, caves, tunnels etc.
There’s loads of good food options and a few Michelin’s if that’s your thing.
Lots of history too, from ww2 and Elizabethan times.
Hiring a car is essential to get to the best bits, but cheap.

We’ve got the Perception Scooter Gemini. It’s easy to paddle and stable even 2up with a 5yo child in the middle. It keeps nice and straight when underway, but is still maneoverable. Can also be paddled solo. They cost about £500 new. Highly recommended!

I’m thinking about making a cheap alarm using IKEA personal alarms spread across the inside of the shed and activated by fishing line attached to the door. For £3.50 they are bloody loud so you wouldn’t want to stay in the shed with them going off. And having a few of them makes it harder to find them to disable. You’d have to be a ballsy thief to carry on with all that noise.

They have 2 private security guards watching over it tonight. There’s been nothing required previously. Lots of people are not happy with the landlord’s action.

So who screwed up? The driver or the engineer doing the calculations?

Of course everyone’s different.
My experience was a posterior dislocation after a 30mph tumble at Haldon. Doc put it back in under a general.
Used a sling for a few days and got straight to a physio about a week later – physios don’t like slings. Followed the physio and back on the bike after 4 weeks and started back to swimming twice a week.
One year on I get the odd twinge but otherwise I’m fine. I’ve been lucky. I think the swimming really helps.

How is a short reach dangerous downhill? Isn’t wheelbase the significant measurement for dh stability?

L’Horizon in Jersey. Right on the beach. Just over an hour’s flight from East Midlands. Though not small.

Swim!
I had a posterior dislocation which was out for a few hours. I did the physio for a few weeks then got back in the pool. Twice a week, 100% front crawl with a few pull bouy sets (I am a swimmer).
9 months later I have no issues.
There’s quite a bit of bull out there about resting, staying of the bike etc, but my physio said you can’t make it any worse so just do what feels comfortable.
Good luck.

So those of you that have one, what do you think of the fork? It seems to be the weak link in a great spec if you believe what the bike mags say about the 32 Talas.

Depends what you are after, but take a look at the Bath House Hotel in Chard. It looks odd from the road as it’s above a Chinese restaurant, but the rooms are good as is the food. Parking too. Check out the review on TripAdvisor.

I rode both the 29er and the 650b back to back and I much preferred the 650b. The 29er was a good, fast, bike but dulled the ride and was not as nimble or flickable as the 650b(I’m a 95% wheels-on-the-ground rider!)

I test rode a 9.9 at the FoD, really liked it, but the 9 spec just didn’t look like good VFM compared to other brands. Would be worth trying to pick up in the sales with 20% or more off, if any are left then.

Unless you are short of cash i can’t see why you’d wait any longer as it seems she wants to move up. Mine are on islabbikes: Rothan at 2.25, cnoc 14 at 3.25
Tip: I tie an old inner tube on to the bar for hill assist.

sorry I can’t help with the instructions, but could I be cheeky and ask how much you paid for the Talas on ebay? (in exchange for bumping up your post!)

The view seems to be that the online sizer is crap.
I’m average 6′ and it said Medium, but looking at the geometry, particularly the TT, it felt too short. I emailed Canyon UK and they said definitely go Large. Unfortunately my orders also been delayed – 2 months to wait unless I cancel and get something else.
WMB also agreed on the sizing being an issue in this month’s mag.

Cheltenham sounds like your best bet. Head for Leckhampton rather than Cleeve, it’s the right side for your journey home and the fun stuff will be drier. Park at Daisybank road (Google maps)and head up hill, and just explore, there are lots of good tracks. Check out Strava for loads of route ideas.
Get to Daisybank via the A417 and Birdlip hill from Gloucester, not the A40 and then you’re back onto the A417 for the way home. You’ll avoid any race traffic this way (and Tuesday is never that busy anyway)

Finish line wet lube seems to stay on quite well in the winter and then I shift to Muc Off Ceramic (Wet) for the summer as it holds the dirt less.
I don’t lube my fork seals much, but on the odd occasion I use a dab of left over Fox Float Fluid.

What do you think of the Talas fork Mrcoley?

sgn23
Free Member

Hey keefmac, can you post your thoughts once you’ve been out for a proper ride? I’d particularly like to know what you think of the fork, it seems to be the weakest part of the spec (WMB review was poor: 2.5 stars)

however some are enforced by the terms of their contract with the manufacturer to only offer deals at certain times (ie: specializeds red ticket offers)

I’ve come across this with Specialized retailers. Under the Competition Act 1998, dealers are free to set their own prices, so I’m surprised this practise still continues. It probably needs someone to raise a complaint to the OFT, but given the relatively small market they’ll probably ignore it (see Oakley complaint 2003)

I emailed my measurements to Canyon and they quickly replied saying I should go for a large.

The MBR review Mattrgee (above) is talking about is in this month’s mag, but it’s for the Nerve AL 9.9, which they said was 20mm too short in the reach for the large. The Spectral has 10mm more reach in large.
