have they not got a allen key slot in the end of the axle (likely 6mm if they do)

otherwise probably as americans don’t do metric it’ll be 9/16 rather than 15mm, but I’m guessing there

Thanks for all the replies folks. If I hadn’t been before I might be seriously worried by some of those :)

But good tips and thanks Krixmiester, I’ll look into some of those options on your mail

    Cheers

Nice, and it’s coloured after it’s name as well 8O

guessing the seat post insertion wasn’t to blame then :-)

and bigyinn, that’s a 5 year old pair of cleats on a 4 year old pair of shoes. And I yet to have a pair of cb pedals fail on me

Indeed, but replaced the inner sole with ones from an old pair of spesh shoes (I always new that keeping old kit would come in handy :-) )

Still fairly bendy though – but good for about town rides

funny, just was talking to my dad this morning about Lyme’s disease, a tick-borne disease in northeastern US. was wondering if there is something similar in Europe. Question answered.
    Thanks to STW.

err, Lyme’s diseae is endemic in the UK tick population especially in northern scotland.

If you do pick up a tick in the UK, know the signs. Can be nasty if not treated

Including the land that my house is built on?

Leasehold or Freehold – not everybody owns the land that the house they own is on, so there is clearly a working model that just needs some tuning :)

    Too late.

    For what?

I personally believe that a countries land should belong to the countries people, so nothing to be passed on to families.

As for individual wealth I have no issue with how much someone gets paid, as long as the gap between the richest and the poorest is reducing in our society. Study after study has shown that social and economic inequality leads to a worse standard of living and life expectancy for all members of a society

    I guess so.

    from Vince Cerf blog

The Internet we’ve relied on so far has space for 2^32 addresses—about 4.3 billion. The new, larger IPv6 expands the limit to 2^128 addresses—more than 340 trillion, trillion, trillion! Enough for essentially unlimited growth for the foreseeable future.

Was great fun actually. Nice team work from a variety of riders coming together to work with each other to battle the heawinds, and nice and fast on the way back with a great tail wind. Didn’t notice the rain after a while. Well done to all who took part :)

    just finished Dark Matter

It was a good read, but not that scary as a ghost story, but would recommend it.

Now reading new issue of The Ride before working out what novel to read next.

I find that any backpack leaves my base layer wet.

so seeing I have a back pack, I carry an extra base layer (or just a tee shirt) and change into it just after the ride.

can then enjoy post ride pint nice and warm :)

I’m still running an old style pair of mallets after 8 years.

I have rebuilt them twice in this time (bearings do wear out :) ), but no problems and they’re still going strong :)

Now I think about it I should probably have named them, might have made things a bit easier on the domestic front..

Me: I’m going riding at Gisburn this weekend
Mrs7: (feigning interest) Which bike you going to ride?
    Me: The Specialized
    Mrs7: Which ones that?
    Me: The full suss?
Mrs7: Emm, no, which one’s that?
    Me: Err, the Grey one?
    Mrs7: ahh, ok have fun

Interesting thread. Mag announces change to business model, and then a number of forum users express unease about the direction/evolution of the mag in an, not obviously related, thread?

All I have to add is that as a new subscriber, largely as a result of the new business model as previously described but also a regular reader/forum lurker, the whole experience has been good. Fast delivery of free Tshirt and membership card (before the DD has left my account).

I have no interest in reviews unless I am looking for a product, but I like good photography and well written articles, I find most other MTB mags don’t deliver on this front.

It’s also interesting to see that the mags owners answer critics on the forum. I’m not sure Chipps’s reply above really addressed the points that the thread was making but good to engage.

Looking forward to seeing the new incarnation of the mag, lets face it 30 quid for a year is great value if it’s well written and well produced. if it’s not I can cancel my sub.

    £500 for a set of light??? you’re having a laugh right? :-)

    I’d go for Chester.

But then the fact it has a symbol and the words Chester Guildhall, was a bit of a give away

22 miles each way, on my 853 mudguard bike, carrying an OMM sac.
Oh, and 127 sets of traffic lights – anyone beat that?

as lights per mile a few above can, possibly, but I defo can:

me – 3.5 miles 24 sets of lights = 6.86 sets of lights per mile
you – 22 miles 127 sets of lights = 5.8 sets of lights per mile

    ooh, I love stats :)

but not loving our love for traffic lights. Less than 4 miles an over 20 sets of traffic lights, WTF????

    again wow, great pics.

interesting point made by user-removed, about accessibility of photography, but ultimately a good photo is a good photo due to composition etc, it’s just that pros get a higher hit rate than amateurs (and perhaps have a more narrative vision), good amateur shots are often just luck, but no less worthy. Still it must make it hard to be a pro photographer now.

I’m no pro, and am still trying to work out some kind of narrative position, and I think I do get the odd lucky shot :)

but here’s a few from last weeks outing that I think hit the lucky button
