Thanks to the OP I got my pair yesterday. Tried them out on the 1 mile walk to the cinema to watch Dunkirk. Very comfy. Cheers 8)

The Onza Jackpot is a 27.5 bike and the geometry says 42mm fork offset.
The Onza Payoff which is 29 also says 42mm fork offset.

Can you get 42mm offset 29er forks?

My wife’s new Canyon 27.5 bike came with 42mm Rebas.
Maybe 42mm is for 27.5 bikes only and it is a copy and paste error from the Jackpot geometry chart.

Anyway, bike is riding well and I really like it 😀

I compared the PCP and HP deals when I bought my current car. PCP was a lower interest rate and worked out a bit cheaper than the HP. I’m going to pay the lump sum off so I’m not really the ideal PCP customer but it worked for me.

I did get a little bonus though. I had to wait 6 months in the end for the car and in the mean time the GMFV went down (maybe a new model will affect residuals) by £500.

Because my monthly payment was agreed already, the only way to adjust the figures was to drop the car price by £500! So I ended up paying £500 less for my deposit! 🙂

If I had gone for HP, nothing would have changed.

Re the bib shorts – I buy DHB for around 50 quid, recently bought a pair from decathlon for even less.At no point have I ever thought to myself on a ride ‘i’d rather have a better pair of shorts’. whats so good about them?

Same here. Just not that fussy, and rather buy 2 or 3 pairs instead of a ‘super’ pair that could be wrecked on the next ride.

Bought some Santini shorts early in the year for £60. Absolutely fine.

I often wonder what the difference between say Lusso and Rapha is? If the chief Rapha designer left and went to Lusso could they then suddenly sell the best shorts in the world?

For sake of argument its £9.5k. My question really is that if I really wanted to keep the car I’d have to pay the £9.5k, but I’d not like to find out that the very next day a private sale means its only worth say, £7.5k.

As mentioned above, you will have to do some research before you could claim that your GMFV is ‘decent’.

My own PCP runs out in 18 months time and I fully intend to buy the car out right. However, if blue cars suddenly become really unfashionable and undesirable then I might just walk away.

What about a Focus ST estate? They do them in diesel and petrol versions.

I had a petrol MK3 Focus estate for 4 years and I test drove a face lift ST estate.

The face lift has improved the Focus a lot and the SYNC 3 is very nice and all the buttons have gone 🙂

ST is a great drive, sharp steering and handling but ride is a bit firm but no complaints from me or my wife. Lovely Recaro leather seats as well.

Not as much volume as a VRS estate but it’s wider inside the boot and no lip. I can get a FS 29er in without taking wheels off. Could not do that in my old Octavia due to the wheel arches intruding.

My ST estate is the first car I actually look forward to driving 8)

Make sure that you get details of the guarantee on the work.

I had my car repaired by the approved body shop by my insurance company. About a year later, filler started to crack all around it. Body shop had closed down at this point 😕

Problem was that I had a new insurance company now. So I phoned the old insurance company they said the guarantee still lasts for 5 years even though I’m not a customer any more.

Paid for whole new repair at a much better body shop and car was great again.

Just bought one of these second hand and I like it.
Steering is a bit twitchy though. Is this due to running a 51mm offset fork when the frame is designed for 42mm?

Do the stock builds come with 42mm forks?

    Am I over thinking this?

    Cheers

I have a new Focus ST-3 petrol estate. Saw one at the local Ford garage last year and thought it looked great. Had a test drive and it was way better to drive than I expected.

I am quite boring and have just turned 50 but I thought why not?

I was looking for a bike on Ebay and saw one in Bournemouth (90 miles away) and thought that would be a nice drive down. Collecting it tonight!

Pads have been on the bike since I got it. Changed the front ones about 6 months ago and the screw was OK but as mentioned above 18 months of commuting took its toll. Got the split pin in there now. Anti seize would have helped but I didn’t have a problem with the hex ones before.

People carry spare brake pads on road rides? I don’t even carry an allen key!

I take your point but you might be on a World Tour!

My quick method, divide by 2 and multiply by the interest rate to give the average yearly interest. Multiply that by the number of years and that is your overall interest. Add it to initial and then divide by number of months.

    £100,000 * 0.5 = £50,000
    £50,000 * 0.027 = £1350 average interest per year
    £1350 *3 = £4050 total interest

    Total amount paid = £104,050
    Monthly payment = £104,450 / 36 = £2890.28

Loan calculator on windows 7 calculator (See worksheets) gives £2894.92

If it is Surrey Police then don’t think about it too deeply as they surely won’t.

Car turned right across me last April and I flew over it and fractured my neck, rib and finger. 4 days in hospital.

Filled out the witness form, described my injuries. Said I thought the minimum ‘punishment’ would be a driver course.

Few months later, and letter says “No Action”. Wife pretty annoyed but driver had fully admitted blame to insurance company.

9 months after the accident, Surrey Police phone up to double check my injuries for their stats and they had me down as minor injuries!

Don’t think they read my witness form at all…

My Dad has his back wheel nicked off his bike outside Sainsburys. The thief kindly put the crap back wheel from his own bike in my Dad’s frame (complete with puncture 👿 )
So someone couldn’t be arsed to change a puncture so my Dad ended up buying a new wheel, cassette, chain, tyre etc 😥

Back in 2006 I took up the offer from the Abbey for a 0.49% tracker above the base rate for the life of the mortgage. Now it’s with Santander but still one of the best punts I have taken. 🙂

Obviously, Abbey was still making money on it or they wouldn’t have offered it.

My wife has a bad back and really struggles on long rides with low level bumps gradually taking their toll.

I bought this last year for her hardtail and it she says it has helped a lot.

    http://www.ultimateuse.com/use-components/seatposts/vybe

We did the South Downs Way over three days in a large group recently and she was OK in the mornings but in the afternoon it was getting too much. But it is a hard route.

Thinking of getting a second hand full suspension bike for the hard days.

Start off with short rides and try a suspension seat post.

I had a mk2 estate and always thought the variable level floor thing was just a bodge to hide the lip. Bet they count the space under the floor as part of the load volume.

I have keyless entry on my 3 month old Focus ST. Started keeping the key in a tin in the house (spare key wrapped in foil and another tin). Not going to get a steering lock as it’s major faff.

They are having kittens over at the Focus ST forums and buying GAP insurance which ironically is quite cheap still (so insurance companies don’t seem too worried 😕 )

You do know you have to lube the cleats quite often? Every couple of weeks at least on my work bike shoes and more in wet.
I use finish line 1-step or if not GT85

Last 2 cars I bought using drivethedeal (google them). They were cheaper than car wow. I tried to buy the car at my local Ford dealer but they were £2000 more expensive than DTD. Saw the price on the DTD website and agreed to buy it. They phoned me up and put me through to a Ford dealer about 60 miles away who wanted to sell me the car at the agreed price. DTD get no money from you, you just pay the dealer £500 as a deposit.

Collected the car when it was ready and they gave me the option of free delivery to my house or a full tank of fuel if I collected it.

The dealership was a very large main dealer with loads of people collecting their cars on the 1st March. The lady I dealt with worked upstairs in the offices and only handles internet orders. They have the normal showroom floor sales people that I suspect wouldn’t be able to get the discounts that she was offering.

This is the first time I have had PCP, mainly because the interest rate was really cheap (0.9%) and had a big deposit contribution. I will be paying off the balance in 2 years time.

Other times I did HP, collected the deposit contribution (£1500) then paid the whole thing off early. They cannot claim the contribution back or charge early repayment fees.

Sometimes demo cars on forecourts are priced relative to the RRP but I got nearly £5000 my car.

Interest rates and deposit contributions are normally much more generous on new cars rather than used.

Winner of the Bec RR yesterday did 329NP for 3 hours. I’m guessing he must be 10ks lighter than me (I’m 74). Nuts.

As a previous winner of the Bec RR, I have no idea what that means. I would have said he rode his bike faster than anyone else 8)

Sold my car using an ebay classified ad and the fee was only £15.

Quite a few watchers and guys asking lots of questions but eventually got my buyer and all went really well! You only need one buyer.

After it went had a few messages asking if it was still available. No, you blew it!

Well, my bike is back and looks great 8)

First I paid for Healthcheck Level 2

    http://carbonbikerepair.co.uk/#healthcheck

Then I received a full report that gave the frame a clean bill of health and a quote to refinish the frame and forks and replace the damaged shifters etc.

Quote was very detailed and enough to get the driver’s insurance company to immediately forward a cheque for the full amount including the healthcheck.

2 weeks later and the bike is finished and it looks as good as new.

Went out for my longest ride of the past 12 months (65 miles) and it was great to ride a light bike again 🙂

I think I remember reading that the PHEV drivers were hogging all the free charging points at motorway service stations. They thought I might as well plug in to get a free 30 miles or so. Problem was that purely electric cars that really needed a charge could not use the charging point.

Think they now charge £5 which makes people think twice before charging their plug in hybrids.

I have the Fulcrum version of this called “Nite” on my Racing Zero’s. Really nice wheels with ceramic bearings as well. Brakes made quite a lot of noise for the first few hundred miles but have bedded in quite well now. Did wear out the first set of brakes blocks really quickly though. Still look good.

So when presented with the message “Secure messaging not working please phone us up”, instead of phoning them up you continued trying to use the thing you’d just been told wasn’t working ?

I did, they were fibbing 🙁

    As a cat 4 I got 17 points.

Does that mean to reach Cat 2 (40 points) I need to get 40 points as cat 3 or 23 points more?

Idea is that any “easier” points you got in 4th cat races are erased and you have get the new points in 3rd cat races where it is a bit harder 🙂

So some racers that get to 2nd cat then struggle to get any points (because they are riding in 2nd cat or above races) rather than the 30 they need to keep their license and they go back down to 3rd the next year.

I don’t think you can ever go back down to 4ths!

I have been 2nd for a few years but had a crash last year (not in a race) and didn’t do any races at all so will be down to 3rd 🙄
