If your looking to buy those off CRC, they come with a BB, A silver RaceFace Deus one, bought a set before Christmas, good cranks but heel clearance of the drive side where the self extracting bolt is ain’t brilliant

Look quite nice, but Whyte need to fit the joining pin a bit better on the Shimano chains on their website, attention to detail… tut tut

Pulled a tree out of the ground with a bigger trunk than that over the Christmas holidays.
Used a spade and axe around the roots, tied a rope 5 meters up and pulled it over with a tractor.
Tree was close to a building one side but had no issues with it going the ‘wrong way’ Got lots of logs for the fire now though

    Video’d it too

Love: Hope, great service, long lasting parts, fitted to all my bikes.

Hate: Hayes brakes, for a mechanic bleeding and servicing is a pig, and they only feel wooden after that, especially the 9 and sole.

Depends what drop out your using.

For a track style horizontal I use a SS specific Hope pro2 because the hex bolts on the end help keep it tight better than a qr.

If you have a vertical drop out with a frame tensioner, ie paragon, then less need for it to be bolted up tight.

Although most SS specific hubs have dishless flanges so builds a stronger wheel.

No sram and shimano use a completely different system, where the shimano is loosely compressed against both bb cups where the sram ones compress internally and externally on the non drive side cup only.

Chris King do do a version to fit sram crank sets but you wont be able to use your existing version

I find Hope QR’s do slacken after a few mins, not enough for them to come loose

I usually fit the wheel, put the wheel between my legs and twist the bars.
This is usually enough to ‘seat’ the QR and re-tighten it slightly.
Its less noticeable on the rear but after a few sharp brakes in the car-park/warm-up that needs a tweak too.

I ride on the road with earphones, not had any problem as im a pretty ‘aware’ person, dont often ride through busy towns/citys so dont have too much heavy traffic to negotiate. Never had a situation where ive been close to being hit through fault of my own.

Off road I never listen to music, I like the sound of the ground under my tyres and listening to the trees and other wildlife around. Its intrersting enough to not need music

The scales I used were at the Scott dealer I worked for, don’t own a set now

Im not arguing that njees doesnt weigh what he says, just seems strange how he can comment on another bikes weight without it being weighed. I never built it that way for weight saving, just how it turned out. Could easliy shave another lb by taking off the bar ends, lighter grips, furious freds, carbon saddle etc. Why buy EC70 when EC90 is lighter etc, the total build cost me about £1700 with all parts brand new from shops so to get a bike under 20lbs for that money, I couldnt be happier.

Think of the weight saving you would have with a new Spark frame instead of that Trek… 😛

Clearly not up to date with you Scott frame weights as I weighed it out of the box at 990g, but whats 110g between friends? Hope SPXC3 wheelset comes in at 1475g so 215g? seatpost isnt the lightest but 230g is nothing to cry about, but oh wait, them barends on there are 6kg each, so thats where all the weight is…

The 19.5 lbs was weighed a year ago and ‘ive made it ighter since’ 😆

Maybe half a pound on the wheels (rocket rons with stans tape aswell) but then I gain 2 pounds back on the frame…

Njee, Id like to see you magic scales that reckon your full sus with heavier parts than my scale can be lighter???

Scott Scale 10, around 19lbs but still descends nicely without feeling flexy, climbs very well too.

Yer forgot about Streetlife, been there once and was alright, guys seemed helpfull. The one in Lowestoft have helped me out aswell before. Dont visit shops much though as have been a mechanic for 10 years so can’t comment on workmanship as I do it all myself.
Becks Bikes in beccles is a fairly new shop, nice guy, starting to get some nice bikes in too.

Im about 10 stone and sag my fox forks about 25% with 55-60 psi

Rear shock is going to depend on the eye to eye, stoke and weather its a high volume can aswell as its preset compression tune. Mine is a larger volume with boost valve and has about 110psi for 25% sag

On a float 140 a little more sag than 30mm may be better… about 25-30% is going to be about 40mm??

That’s pretty much it in Norwich, there’s a cycles uk(I think that’s the name) downstairs in the big sports shop next to Jarrolds, all the rest are low end. John Borwell on Spencer street is pretty small but seems to stock some higher end stuff.

Elmys or Thomas cycle revolution in Ipswich are the only other big shops in the area really

I have the X2 but with the mini pro lever rather than the newer race lever, on their 3 bolt rotor wheels. Good brakes enough power for xc racing but do seem to fade quite quickly, found I had to give them quite a squeeze at the bottom of the Cottage run at 24/12 after using them on the descent.

I use a bolt in Hope ss hub, so no need for tensioners or the fiddly little screw bit in the frame. just do it up tight and there’s no slippage

Have been to Kaprun in Austria in the summer, skied on the glacier until lunchtime gone down to the village to 30degrees by the pool. The runs are pretty limited but we did get fresh snow but not enough for 2 weeks

Nothing when racing. But when out and about once got punctured by a big thorn, which did seal, but lost quite a bit of air, had to top it up with a pump trailside

However the prize goes to the chap who took the wrist band from his incoming team mate, turned to face the way out and screamed something like “RIDER COMING THOUGH” at the top of his voice and charged like a fully psyched up berserker though the other waiting riders. I had to laugh when the bloke next to me said “but he’s not even on his bike yet”

I saw something very similar at D2D 2009, screaming and swearing for people to get out of his way, only to jump on his bike and epic fall arse over tit to the amusement of everyone in the transition area

Sram long cage rear mechs seem to struggle a bit with ‘big big’ unless your ‘small small’ is very slack, medium could be a problem…

I use 24-32-42 on a 9speed 11-34, do find front shifting is better and I find the big ring more useable with the 2 less teeth, also when shifting from middle to big you only need one or two compensation shifts at the back instead of three or four. A worth while change/upgrade
