Remember folks, as well as the monetary cost to a new TV there is an environmental cost. Have a go at fixing it on the cheap! It’s fun and educational….

I tried this.TV repair man came round, took my TV and that was the last I saw of it. Tried calling him soooo many times but no answer! I’m almost starting to think that 2 years on he isn’t coming back.

    Although sometimes it isn’t.

I have Green Flag. So far they have been fab. Called them out because I locked my keys in the car. Keys went in with the Camelbak etc. They sorted me out with in 50 mins and I made the ride.

I got the home start option which came in at £97 at the time. Cheaper than renewing with the AA. That was £130.

Most flashes work best with a shutter speed of something between 1/250-300th so go into Manual mode, set the shutter to that

This isn’t correct. There is no minimum shutter speed. It is based on your camera what the maximum shutter speed will be so check the manual.

For product photography you may want an f-number greater than f11.

It totally depends on what you want from the image. Over f11? yes if you want all you can get out of the DOF. Meaning as much of the product in focus as possible. However you might want a little area in focus and the rest out of focus. In that case you would use a lower aperture. There are no rules, it’s based on what you want to achieve.

Start with a low iso – My Canon seems to like ISO160

You can use any ISO. If you just have one off camera flash you might find it isn’t powerful enough to light your subject as you want. So in that case increase the ISO.

Remember though that the higher the ISO the more noise you will encounter so lower is better.

Another option no one has mentioned is constant lighting rather than flash. If your preferred subject matter is static this is a great option. Cheap too.

Its all about balance, trial and error and the links provided by others are a great source of info.

Hi scholarsgate, what kind of subject matter have you been photographing with the flash?

Also can you describe what the main problems are you have come across? Is there any chance you can show any examples? It might help to see where you are going wrong.

I’m a commercial/advertising photographer and have had the pleasure of lighting some really tricky items over the last 20 years! So if I can help i will.

Wow…hair spray really does work. I kind of doubted how effective it is but I’m bald so never use the stuff. I’m just happy there is one product that really does work as advertised. Thanks science!

    Define “legitimate”

Didn’t you know all the seriously legitimate questions start with ‘What gives?’

Just wear the proper clothes and have fun.

I was thinking this. Wearing a ‘crazy’ tie tends to make the wearer look like a bit of a boob. Pretty sure it won’t be seen as a protest.

However if you you really want to…

Ouch. Sounds like 7 days rebuild is going to cost about the same. I would want to know the exact time spent on the car. Was it 7 days 8 hrs a day? Or a few hours a day as he has other work in. Ask for a detailed invoice and go from there.

Sounds like you are asking if you mechanic is at fault for not noticing the fuel leak when the car was serviced, as your wife mentioned the smell when paying. Unfortunately I can’t see it being his fault. Had you booked it in specifically to hunt down the source of the fuel smell I think you would have a leg to stand on.

Sounds like bad luck and one of those crap times when a car ends up costing a lot of money.

As you say, he has been brilliant in the past, he fixed the fuel filter seal he thought he damaged for free too.

They are in the fogs on my disAstra, not had it long and have had plenty of people pull out as I’m signaling to turn right on roundabouts. Never use the fog lights but I wonder if the bright light from them would make it even harder to see. Not well thought out being so low.

They lost me when they did that stupid smash your phone stunt.

Just Googled this. What a stupid idea, only 100 people would get a one plus one at $1.

    This?

It comes with 1 months xbox live, 500Gb HDD and 2 games. One for you and one for him! I recon you could pick up minecraft second hand for a couple of quid.

I would say go for the 250gb. That 4gb will be gone in no time, you won’t be able to save any games to the HDD. Is £200 the best price? Would have thought you could find one cheaper than that.

The link you have provided is for US customers only.

Edit. My bad you can change the country in the order summary section!

Edit 2! found this on pcadvisor.co.uk

TK Tech News is reporting that it has been made aware of hundreds of people filing PayPal disputes against OnePlus over a yellow band screen issue with some handsets. It claims to have seen a conversation between one customer and PayPal in which PayPal said “We have placed a hold against these funds.

Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean the firm is in trouble, although the number of requests for refunds isn’t good news for OnePlus. The yellow band issue is not apparent on our own OnePlus One phone.

As Cougar said, I have bought a couple of really nice laptops, one Elitebook and one Thinkpad from Cash Generator. They had a better selection and price compared to Cash converters.

They accept returns for 2 weeks if I remember correctly. So far both machines work brilliantly and it’s been a year or so since I bought them. I went for business laptops as they are built to last.

Sad news, love a bit of LFO.

Saw him play at the Orbit a few times, what a show…

I didn’t see him there but what a club! Sven Vath kicked up a storm on more than one occasion. Convoys out to Ferry bridge then off to the woods for big speakers out the back of a Scirocco and dancing til dawn. Good times!

I have recently been looking for something similar but in messenger bag form. Look at brands like Timbuk2, Tenba, Lowepro, Tamrac and crumpler.

I bought a bag from Evans, online, half price…45. It’s a messenger but as they have a sale on check out their back pack range.

When I was 19 on a trip to Barcelona some girl from my art foundation course came up to me on a night out and said…”take me back and shag me”. It was the 90’s so people still said shag back then.

I did and we ended up going out. She was a super loon. The kind that would bang her head against a wall repeatedly if I said I was going to meet friends that weekend.

I escaped to uni but only just.

I wonder how much value it’d add if I had it repainted..?

Don’t bother, I doubt you would get much more. Stick it on Ebay as slightly used. Expect a couple of hunge.

Hate to break it to you Jamie but he isn’t an Evans employee, neither is he a human being but a CGI render. Just like Evans customer service he is fictional. The little X is very real. His name is Gary, he is a freelance X and works for many online retailers. He also like fireworks.

Has it got to be from the rafters or can you use one of the cheap bike holders you attach to the wall? You mention the bike would be against a wall. I have one with a full sus, I have angled it slightly so the bike runs level. It has enough room to mount the bike with the front wheel forward so the bike actually sits proud of the wall taking into account the handle bars.

Not sure how deep your work bench is so might not be possible but an idea…and is cheap.

Bikebuoy, did you wee in his boots, or on his barbeque?

Both! Then I caught him stealing my girlfiends underwear from the washing line and wearing them on his head, all of that I can forgive. Trolling is another matter.

I love your comments on the Apple threads….they always have me in stiches. Have you thought about setting up a website or blog where you can post 24/7?

    There, not here.
