Quite obviously, guys don’t know anything about girls. Other than they’re different. Really different. We live on separate planets, men and women.

I stopped reading there tbh which is the second sentence

I have some (Avid fit) front and back….second set after the original Avid ones… No real complaints, for the price they have performed quite well but tbh I can’t now remember how the Avids were in comparison.

I seem to remember bleeding and setting up the calipers when i switched. You won’t die like!

Went for a ride with a friend the other week, his spd’s broke just as we set off so he switched to flats. He found it weird at first as he couldn’t pull up as well as push down… he kept lifting his feel off the pedals but after a while he was fine.

I agree, you’ve got to be able to walk the walk if you talk the talk.

Always fun to pick off flashy full-sussers on the trusty old hardtail in the Peaks!

Totally agree with this but have seen a some wheels for sale on here that have white rims that seem decent at a reasonable price….Anyway it’s not like some one on a HT will come up to me and tell me how crap I am considering I am on a full sus with matching rims…..could happen but unlikely!

Ooooo….maxtorque that does look nice! Looks like an expensive wheelset, which one is it?

At least he can’t lose a limb in a shark attack.

He could loose a stump though….or his head. That would be unlucky.

I’m thinking of doing the same….seeing some pic’s would be great especially if anyone has put white rims on their white filing cabinet.

From what I have seen white rims look good…with a bit of another thrown in just to mix it up a bit.

My mate just bought one, apparently they have a 2 year warranty and you don’t have to send it off to Germany to be fixed, the warranty allows you to take it to any RS dealer. I don’t know which model my friend bought but you can use a translator such as the google one, copy and paste the text in and it might give you some extra info.

As for buying from these German stores that offer better prices, I have used actionsports.de several times, never a problem. I believe my mate bought his Reverb there too.

    WOW….

But it’s got to get better from there right?! seriously though, I hope it does. Sometimes everything just goes wrong at once and all you can do is address one thing at a time and hope for the best.

bit harsh Gary! As the owner of a 5 for the last few years (tried many many different bikes over the years) I would say they make a good ride in the 5. I can’t speak for the other models.

However, in my opinion they don’t offer the best value for money compared with other bikes in the same vein. All I know is that I love riding it and will do so for years to come.

As for the owners they attract, well yeah but it only takes one trip to Dalby to understand you can say this for many brands of bike, especially the expensive ones pulled off the back of a white Audi.

I have a friend who recently bought the reverb and it seems like a great seat post but like you, having a five with a 27.2 the options seem limited. I’m looking at an X-fusion Hilo or the Gravity dropper.

I have found the X-fusion on actionsports.de for around £160 but GD’s seem to all come in around the £220 mark.

KIND SHOCK Super Natural 272 is also an option but it has a weight limit of 90KG…as thats what I weigh I’m not going to risk it but would be good for you perhaps.

I have read some good reviews on the X-fusion so might give it a try.

Not sure about the no power thing, would just put new pads in tbh and bleed again just to be sure. Check the piston in the calliper too. Might be sticking.

I had horrible turkey gobble on my rear break. I would always align in the way you described, never got rid of it after several attempts and several annoying rides. Then I tried doing it by ear. Loosened the calliper and jiggled it while spinning the wheel until it sounded like there was no contact, then tightened slowly. Never had a problem since.

    I have elixir 5’s btw

I think it’s quite natural to feel like this but the way things are right now companies don’t take people on lightly or on a whim. If they needed someone for the short term I bet there will be a freelance alternative.

The fact the director comes to have a chat is very good, why would he/she bother if they intended to get shot of you in a couple of months?

Just chill a bit, work hard and enjoy it. Your hard work and good work ethic will be noticed without you pushing it in their face. Small companies are good to work for sometimes and it might be that they want you to enjoy working there as much as you want to show them you want to.

To them you are an investment, and speaking to a friend who is a director recently, she told me about her worry of taking people on, it’s a huge responsibility to a good employer. Good luck with the new job by the way!

Is it me or is this just a list of stuff non of which you can listen to? I was expecting to be able to play tracks!

Edit: OK it would seem some albums you can listen to via a spotify link but maybe not all just yet.

Have you looked at lightroom 3? Very good bit of kit. Capture One Pro is also good, used by most studios…industry standard and all that. But maybe these are not for you as you would usually use them to process RAW capture files before editing in Photoshop. Depends on what camera you use and how deep you want to go into the murky world of image editing.

SSC pads fit my elixirs fine

This but I didn’t get the painted ones. I did however set up the brakes by bleeding after making sure the pistons were all the way back….then unscrewing the calipers a tad and making sure I re-positioned them as to not scrape the pads. I did this by ear! Worked very well, no squeel etc

Ask in your LBS, they will usually have something they will give you. Last time I needed one they gave me loads of packaging including some nice plastic bits to stick in the forks etc.

I think the best way is to have a test drive of a few 1.2 cars and see how they feel. There are more things to consider tho, some cars are heavier and have better build quality so maybe a tad slower? If I was looking at a 1.2 car I wouldn’t be too worried about how the engine performs power wise. I would want to know if it was a good, reliable engine. I would look at known problems (usually picked up on Parkers Guide). I would take into account the cars history and condition and how much it costs when things go wrong.
Also look at the price, it might be that you can get this car cheap and they do have a good re-sale value compared to other small cars. it’s a bit of a mine field buddy!

Well porter_jamie’s friend may well have insider knowledge so worth looking into! Sometimes there is a lemon in the range. There should be some good reviews about.
Maybe check out Parkers guide online and have a look at small cars in that come into your price range? Maybe a Fiesta will be good? My brother just bought one, 08 1.4 3 door job, square body shape not the new one. Its a really nice car. 6K though.
I would avoid a Corsa TBH, my ex had a 1.2 (02) and it’s horrible!

If you are worried about a 1.2 being underpowered a 1.2 in any car will be sluggish, esp if you have been driving 1.4 and 1.6 cars. Maybe a 1.4 will be one to go for? Will be loads better on the M way.

So this is your first post here Sarah, welcome to the forum. Would you like to buy an Orange 5? I may or may not be open to receiving sexual services in payment for the bike. It all depends on the photo you will undoubtedly be uploading to your profile.

I’ve had a few polo’s from 1.1 to 1.4 and 1.9D. All 3 doors. Depends what you are used to as to whether you find it underpowered. I thought my 1.1 pulled quite well considering. I just found VW’s more costly to fix.

    Hi oneoneoneone.

Sorry to hear you have a back problem, having had it (bad!) I know how crap it is and how much uncertainty there is. I was in the same position as you, GP told me a scan would have to be done etc but had a 6 month waiting list. In the meantime I was referred to physio direct so maybe you could try that?

Back problems are really common in young men and even if it is quite serious (prolapsed disk) it can be fixed so there is light at the end of the tunnel. When your GP says carry on as normal it is good advice to an extent, you have to be aware that you don’t do more damage so obviously don’t try and pick up an anvil.

I got to the point where I couldn’t stand or walk and was on pretty mad pain killers. Eventually I went private and paid for it.
I had a treatment of cortisone injections which did ease it slightly but as I had a prolapse disk the only way to get the pressure of the sciatic nerve was surgery. In and out in a day and been perfect ever since (4 years) better than 6 months waiting in agony.

I hope it won’t get to that point for you. At this stage try and get physio, they will help you with stretches and exercises to strengthen your core. Also in bed try to lie on your side, it will take the pressure off your back.

Hope it works out OK but don’t forget that it is more than likely that it get fixed in time. I found the worry of not knowing almost worse than the pain.

Oh one more thing chiropractors are not the way forward…believe me I wasted hundreds!!!!

The reason i rambled on about research is because I was surprised at how little you can pick up a decent £600 bike a year or so after someone has had a play and progressed to something else.

I would tell your friend to do a lot of research because second hand will probably be his best bet.

My friend sold his rock hopper HT for 350 on feebay. I sold my Evans brand Pinnacle HT for the same price. Both a year old!

If he is just starting out a 100-120 travel HT will do him proud but look for something that is little used, do the research and lots of it. learn about what you are going to buy. When you do buy check it out first, everything should feel smooth, if not walk away.

Don’t be fooled by anything from Argos that says reduced from 599 to 299. It will last about 4 hours, even if you don’t ride it.

Well I use a very diluted Muc-off solution, seems to work OK. I spray the bike down and then use the ‘bucket and sponge’ technique to clean the bike. I finish off with a watering can of water as i don’t have a hose pipe. Failing a diluted Muc-off I use a diluted car shampoo.

I take the wheels off and try my best not to get anything on the rotors and nothing but water on the calipers/pads.

lube and a bit of bike spray then done….

I’m sure people will set me right but so far things get clean and i don’t have and bearing/seal/brake horror stories.

Having said that I don’t clean after every ride. Once in a while I will remove the cassette and chain and clean in white spirit then re lube etc.

Prolly more detail than you wanted!

I have a 2010 5 and it is just noisy when I hoof it down stuff, more so than other bikes I have owned. However if your bike has become louder than usual and there is no play in the swing arm, shock is good and rear mech is sound maybe chain length? Also you say that it not only sounds but feels like you are running on rims. Have you checked your rear shock is set up properly? If you have, maybe mess with the settings to see if it helps, rebound too fast??

Tyre pressure too high maybe?? Long shot but thought I would throw it in there!

Just a few ideas! Hope you get it sorted.
