I’m not sure you can go far wrong with the Reverb tbh. X fusion is a little cheaper. GD’s are much more simple and something you can easily service your self. Where as a Reverb you may have to get serviced and that might mean sending it off?

If it were my money and I was not restricted by seat post size I would go Reverb. But I would also check I had a LBS that could service it for convenience. Also from what friends have said spares for the Reverb are quite expensive.

I have the gravity dropper turbo, been using it for about 10 months now. It just works and I am really happy with it. I like the fact that parts are readily available and cheap so if or when something goes wrong I can fix it myself. I am limited by a 27.2 post though and the GD was by far the best choice.

Couple of mates have the Reverb, used for the same amount of time and they are also really happy with them. They haven’t has any technical issues yet, just the odd bleed.. They like the fact they can adjust the height of the saddle to any point. Where as the GD only has 2 positions.

Like above, not much experience with other brands. I looked at the x fusion and it seemed pretty good. Some hit and miss reviews…..but when I found a bargain price on the GD I jumped at it.

Pointless though, really…. Would be different if he had a dwarf sidekick who could drive it.

My thoughts almost exactly. Fair play to they guy for building it but I want to see someone drive the thing.

That was both hilarious and humbling.

Just how does than man fit his enormous balls in such tight fitting and sexy Lycra?

Hummm… Just had a play with my Elixir 5’s There does seem to be some up/down movement but they don’t go past the point of the click.

However if I put both levers past the click, the rear has a lot of play and feels quite floppy but the front has some tension behind it.

I really do need to bleed the rear though, it’s not far from the handlebar. I wonder if you need to bleed the front?

    Maybe not much help!

Good find. Personally I don’t mind Avids and for that price I’m in. Thanks for the heads up.

Oh nice! ….really nice! Why you would want to tell mates you were out riding Barry is beyond me.

Come on fella, that bike is at least a Garry, maybe even a Geoff.

I don’t know man but if I were you I would play it safe and go with the name of your life partner.

I could get all technical and hit it with a hammer but my philosophy is… if it stinks get a new one.

No one likes a smelly helmet.

The ride will be ace, zero loss of skill however you will be asleep approximately 30 mins the ride. You will wake up hungry, confused and most likely you will have a distinct feeling of sexual confusion. THIS IS NORMAL.

Just out of interest what was the problem with the paint? Never had a spesh but thinking about one for the next bike.

Edit: Full details/spec etc on the bike you bought pls!

I have read you post and see that you have tried the usual tricks but on the off chance have you seated the tire using a tube, leaving it for 24 hrs and then gently removing the tube just before inflating? In my limited experience if one side is seated I can get the other to hook up. I have only ever used a floor pump though.

I imagine it would be a real pain to do this at a garage, most systems I have used seem to give a very progressive inflation rather than the ‘pop’ of air I imagine you may need. I could be wrong…just trying to help!

You might be ‘bike fit’ and you might have a good level of cardio fitness but running is surely going to use different muscles?! I can only speak from the perspective of biking loads then going to the gym thinking the running machine will be fine. Thing is it takes me (38) a couple of weeks before I can manage 5k without my legs hurting.

Build up, intervals etc. Give yourself some time to rest in between work outs.

CountZero, that guy was bloody lucky. Wonder if the bullet came from a suspect or the plod. Also it would suggest the building he lives in isn’t made from brick or stone.

On the lucky theme I was also reading about a chap who went over the finish line at the marathon moments before the first explosion and was also driving close to the fertilizer plant in Texas when it went up. Another lucky sausage.

    Congrats!

When I passed it was all fields round here, life was in black and white and what the hell is the practical test?! That’s like when you drive a car yeah?

Re Keith Harris. I would put money on it.

My Mrs was propositioned by him at 16.

Soooooo legal then? Morally, it is a different matter.

I’m gonna wait and see if Rolf is charged and convicted before I get my knickers in a twist.

fourbanger, thanks for that. Good to know late in the season is still a good time to go. Accommodation sounds great…as does the whole set up.

fourbanger, we are hoping it won’t be too XC! They describe it as AM/Enduro. You make it sound like a right treat! You stayed with them? How was it?

Thanks for the update…Will defo do the Spain trip as it looks ace but it’s interesting you mention the other two. Doing a trip with work mates in Aug, France and Italy. More of a general trip finding our own accommodation and trails but I will research the 2 companies you mentioned as they might have some guided stuff we could do.

    Cheers fella!

I’ve got to say that my experience differs totally, lever works well, post works well, very, very happy with my purchase.

Nowt like STW for conflicting advice

It could also be that there are many variants of this dropper post made by different companies. I am more than willing to accept user error but did use it for a week in Scotland so gave it a good try. The guy I got it from was UK based and was working with his Chinese supplier on improvements. In time it might be a great buy just not there yet from my experience.

Edit: Mine was from here http://www.bigmassive.co.uk/

I didn’t want to wait today as I was rather keen to get on the ski slope and had limited time. Is that a good enough reason?

    Nope

    seavers

I had a variant of one of these, bought new for £78. The post its self was not bad but the lever mechanism is awful. Impossible to use quickly and I found the post needed an extra tug to get it to click back into the fully extended position. By that I mean the spring didn’t have enough power to fully push the seat post back up.

I got rid. It might have been better with a decent cable, mine seemed to stretch and I mean on a ride not over time!

Good for you Drac. I have nothing against overtaking but I think the point here is the whole “making progress” safely thing. The A17 out of Norfolk does not have many passing double lane points…my point still stands. Why not wait?

    seavers

So I’m right in thinking you’d happily sit behind a car doing 40 mph on a clear 60 mph road rather than overtake?

It’s not ideal but instead of assuming it is your right to get somewhere quicker than the guy in front of you why not wait until you can overtake with out pushing in and obviously unnerving other drivers?

    seavers
    Free Member

But I’ve had more under the bonnet and never killed/maimed mine or anyone else’s child’s face, smoothly overtaking via moving in and out in a controlled manner is not dangerous

Well I have quite a bit ‘under the bonnet’ but really don’t see the point in trying to move up by overtaking one by or one or as you say a “five car overtake”. While it can be frustrating to be stuck behind a slow moving bus or whatever why not just chill or wait until you hit a dual carriage way? I’m speaking from a regular A17 to Norwich perspective and see a lot of people like you popping in and out. It won’t save you much time buddy.

If I were you and had four bikes, my fav being the goosed one I would sell one to fund it’s repair. Or save up.

Is it not hard to enjoy it being so F*ed?

I only have one bike but do my best to keep it running well. Nothing more annoying than riding your only bike when somethings buggered.

If you went for good second hand kit it might not be horrendous to get right again.

I started with a 75 Quid one and to be honest it was more of a hindrance. While the basic mechanics were good the lever was horrible. The whole point is getting the seat out of the way and then back with no fuss. The variant I had was just awkward and impossible to use quickly.

Sold it and went for a Gravity Dropper Turbo. Yes they are expensive but they are fit and forget. In addition it just works, it works well and it works quickly. If it is something you are going to use it is a fantastic purchase.
