I take one to 60m (7 bar) quite often, seems to be holding up OK.

Well I have only one bike, a 2010 Orange five, it does everything I need to. Local XC and can easily be built up for trips to the Alps and Spain.

As mentioned above the stumpy fsr evo is a sweet bike, have my eye on it for when I have the cash but it may be more than you need and it’s £2.5K.

Some good deals on Pauls Cycles too.

and is water resistant to 100 metres (10 bar)

At a depth of 100 meters the pressure is 11 bar. If it survives 30m (4bar) I would be impressed. I wouldn’t take it diving though!

I was gonna say £120-140 if it is in really really good nick, includes headset etc. As it’s a few years it probably has battle scars so £120 sounds right.

I will probably get shot down for this but Jack Reacher might be worth a look. It really wasn’t what I expected. Action..yeah some but might keep you guessing too.

I got stuck…2 hrs to get the 7 miles home. It wasn’t much fun but I bet the bloke who was airlifted out is having a worse night.

Most roads seem to have cleared now though. I think they have re opened the 62.

Large Nukeproofs x3. Also have some Brand X knee & shin from CRC. They come up big and pretty comfortable too for so much protection.

I found that the shock would blow through its travel way too easily. Even if I stuck a bit more air in. It just didn’t have progressive travel and I would bottom out more often than I should.

I did some research on the RP23 BV shock on a 5. There is loads of info on this particular shock to be found. Google is your friend.

Basically pushing a shock tunes it to your bike and your weight. It will make the shock bob less yet soak up the bumps better.

I liked my 5 before I had it done but after the tune it feels amazing. My thoughts are that orange sell these bikes set up for an average rider weight…what ever that may be. I am 90kg in kit.

Anyone tell what year it might be? What sort of shock and fork?

    Looks like 2009/2010

Looks like the rear shock is the RP23 Boost Valve?

Did I do good or am I an idiot

That may depend on what you paid for it. However, as a fellow 5 owner I can say you have not bought a POS. They are fun bikes to ride. Get the forks serviced and the shock pushed. LOCO tuning would be worth looking at, good service and decent prices.

When it dies get shot of all the raceface stuff, I bet the BB will be first.

Granted these are not the lightest of bikes but they are a hoot on the downs. Enjoy!

I own a reverb and a classis GD, and the reverb is the one I’d recommend. The GD is great, and highly recommended, but the reverb is just brill.

Can I just ask why you like the Reverb over the GD? I’m going to get a new bike later this year and it will be a 31.6. I like the idea of being able to set the seatpost at any point. Your thoughts would be much appreciated!

I think that’s taking the piss to be honest, it’s an abuse of the system, and I don’t think anyone would expect to be treated like that personally. At the end of the day the cost of your selfishness would be passed on to all customers. There are plenty of bike shops in the alps.

Fair point really. I have been buying spares for a trip to Spain but if I don’t use them they will go in my spares box.

OP…you mention brake sets and wheel sets. Seems a bit OTT. How about some spokes and some pads. MSP is right in saying there are plenty of bike shops there. However take things that will be hard to find for your bike. Like a Mech hanger and possibly spokes if you run straight pull.

    2nd hand or new?

New from CRC it was £169 down from £220.

Edit: I was looking at the X fusion but that was 150 at the time. The GD seemed a better deal. Not pretty but something that just works.
