The reliance is still good, although depending what you order the dish might not be very big so make sure you have enough side dishes etc!

My comments about 27.5 separating itself from 26″ when you hit 140mm of travel: For the type of riding that a person would do that means they would choose a 140mm of travel or more, then what we’ve determined is that 27.5 wheels perform better than a 26″ in terms of speed and control.

For the love of god give us some real world data to back up your claim.

Yep me too, I bet that guy could mix any beverage you want. I wouldn’t want to stick around for the threesome though.

Loved it the first second and third time I watched it. Not as impressed with the sequel but it’s worth a watch still.

My thoughts exactly, the sequel was good enough but I hope they don’t make a third.

In case it’s not obvious without the context, I don’t think “People who buy Apple must be clueless mugs who know nothing about computers.” – I was saying that this seems to be what a lot of Apple-haterz think for some reason.

I wasn’t having a dig at you, I missed the context on page 3! My apologies!

Really? What’s the keyboard shortcut for that feature??

Apple outsourced that to Grinder due to it being so popular. I think there is an app for that.

The rest of the world would call 10.9 a service pack…

I think it is a bit more than that. Granted it is an incremental upgrade from Mountain Lion but for those of us on Lion it’s a great opportunity to have the latest OS free.

I would have to disagree. I still use a mid 2007 iMac, now running Mavericks beautifully. It hasn’t missed a beat. Not one clean install, not one virus. It just keeps on working. I use it for work, photo/video editing etc so I give it some stick. I plan to upgrade soon but I know I can sell it for at least £400 (cost me 1200). I’m not sure that could be said for a PC (same spec) that is 6 years old.

I have bought a few new bikes without testing or even seeing in real life.

    Giant Trance
    Orange 5
    Saracen Ariel

The only bike I didn’t get on with was the Ariel, not the bikes fault. It was a really sorted bike, well built and a nice spec. Despite researching geometry and comparing the numbers it just didn’t feel right.

The only reason I take a punt on an unseen bike is because I have been able to buy them super cheap. That way If I don’t get on with them I can sell and not loose much. I sold the Ariel a couple of months ago for £50 less than I bought it for.

I recently bought a Zesty, went to see one in person though. Very happy. When it doesn’t work out it’s a pain to do the selling/buying thing.

Hope your new bike is what you want 🙂

OOOF, that sounds very nasty. Really hope you are back on your bike soon. Until then enjoy the codeine haze and the sponge baths.

I don’t have one but before getting a reverb looked at them. Reviews put me off, mainly the one screw issue. Just seemed like a bad design to me.

As for number 2. My reverb wouldn’t return fully at first. turned out I had the seat post clamp too tight.

Mountain biking will be banned once the number of wheel size discussions exceeds the amount of the internet that was allocated for pron.

Thank god for that, I was getting worried.

Three_Fish’s idea is a good one. You could hire a couple of lights at the same time. Constant will be cheaper than flash and easier to use. If you need any lighting tips email in profile. Happy to help.

    Sounds interesting!

From a technical point of view you could probably get away with a compact camera with a decent macro feature. I would be doing some research and reading reviews to find a good option, it could come in well under budget.

The other option is a DSLR. You would also have to buy a lens with a macro feature. Its more costly but both Canon and Nikon etc have relatively low cost bodies. You might find a body and lens kit for that budget but you would need to check the lens has the feature you need.

As you could get away with a compact it’s really worth thinking how much camera you need. If it is something you will use a lot after you have done your thesis it may be worth going DSLR and spending more.

Nah, it can’t have been those two, as I saw Kermit being toad away yesterday. Plus it doesn’t bear thinking about Fozzie being capable of such actions.

More info is needed! I take it you are looking for a camera to buy and don’t have one now? Budget? What are you going to use the images for? This could dictate how good the quality needs to be and as such what kind of kit you should look at.

Edit…also how detailed? What kind of subject matter?

Another factor we may have missed amongst the “I can get away with using a POS camera instead of doing it properly” debate is that of client requirement.

Sometimes it’s OK to use your 5D. sometimes it isn’t. In my line of work, with our clients we don’t just make do. 🙄 we exceed our clients expectations.

overkill, i shot for john lewis and made do with an H4D-40 and a 5DIII
    i used a zoom too!

My point exactly! you “made do”. Probably because of your kit limitation! Oh can I use that eye rolling thing too?? Nah I’m not that childish.

I have ‘made do’ with a 5D3 on countless food shoots but stack those images against a P25 let alone a P60 and I think you will see a difference.

I don’t think the 2011/12 Five takes a stealth. If I remember they added cable guides on the top tube. A stealth requires internal routing ie a hole close to the BB and cable routing up the down tube.

There was a thread on here recently, a PSA for cheap Reverbs from Germany. About £160 Left hand remote. I bought one and mounted it upside down on the right. Only had it a couple of weeks but it’s spot on.

Edit. I’m not sure they were selling 30.9 posts. I will try and find the link….

What year Five? Pre 2011 and choice is limited.

I had a gravity dropper turbo on my 2010 (27.2) which I really liked. It’s a mechanical post and suits the look of the Five! I found it very reliable, parts readily available and something you can look after yourself.

Now using a Reverb on a different bike. It’s a slick bit of kit, not had a problem with it yet but I can see myself sending it off to be serviced. Friends have been using them for well over a year. never serviced but are getting slow to return.

You are a good bunch of mates! I’m sure he will appreciate it.

I think we’re kind of agreeing but I’d still argue that most areas of photography benefit from better kit, at least in terms of not being hampered and frustrated by kit limitations.

I agree, if you are making a living from photography the right (read flippin expensive) equipment makes all the difference. If the photographer is good enough they will find a way to get the shot they want with less than the ideal kit.
You also have to bare in mind how the image will be used. If its a pack shot that will be reproduced on toilet paper and no bigger than a stamp you could use a 7D and a 24-105. If it’s kitchen for John Lewis or a food shot for Sainsburys used for POS or a brochure you might want to use 5×4 and a P60.

One of the most important factors when it comes to kit is the lens. Crappy glass will do nothing for you.

If you hit a badger and killed it, but the next rider hit it again and had 650b wheels, would it come back alive?

Chuckles 🙂 …yeah much like they would a trail. I read that in a magazine.
