I saw a chap in Sausalito riding a specialised turbo s on the commute from the city last year, he was flying, although i think they are not restricted to stop assisting after 15mph over there, anyway, i thought at the time it was a great alternative to the car for longer commutes. I would have one for that reason or if my health impacted on my cycling in the future.

PS it would be tempting to go out and upset the Strava heroes though. 😆

    Shimano pedals & Specialized shoes.
Stans rims have never given me any cause for complaint, unlike some i could mention.
Avid bb7 brakes, not flash or fancy, they just work & are easy to look after.
ESI grips, bye bye hand pain.
Hope hubs, no complaints in lots of years of use, cheap adapters to change from QR to bolt through meant not having to buy new wheels for a new frame / fork.
Maxxis tyres, only just tried them, they knock spots off the contis & Shwable tyres used in the past.
Jones frames, i will always have a jones now, just brilliant bikes.

    Qr to bolt through? no
    Tapered steerer? no
Steel springiness? switching from an inbred to a niner air 9 yes
    Ti? not tried one
Pick up? only used shimano and hope so not really.
    Crank stiffness? no

Just followed a bunch of school kids on the trails out here in Rotorua, they were getting mtb skills coaching, i overheard someone say the whole school was being made to do it. I wish we had lessons like that when i was at school, it would have made a nice change to football and rugby.

Carbon fatbike frame & forks and stick some (light as possible & tubeless) 29+ wheels in it.

I know i’m going to get shot down for this, but 29+ works better for trail riding than full fat IMO.
29+ & fatbike frankenbike thing of evil but lovely.

Keep your camp spot & dinner spot separate, don’t store food around the campsite, seal it in a dry bag and tie it up in a tree.

Mtb’s are pretty versatile, with a change of tyres you could use it for sustrans / towpath rides or overnight camping / b&b rides, then if you get the love back you can stick proper tyres back on and ride off road. No need to sell unless you need the space / money desperately IMO.

    There you go

Although not technically difficult it’s worth riding up Mount Tam & also riding the repack trail just to say you’ve done them.

Do you have a fat front on any of your Jones bikes? I’m 29+ on mine, i was thinking about a fat front but my fat bike test ride has put me off a bit.

It’s a good looking bike that Specialized, well it is to my eyes. Fat bikes remind me of the bikes that Jo Burt draws.

tried one and it didn’t do it for me. Amusing side show but not a direction I’ll be going in.

Ah, cheers, i knew i couldn’t be the only one, what did you try and where did you ride it?

climbing traction was very good. i’m in New Zealand so not a lot of mud to try it on. 😀

I might try another when i’m back in Blighty.

    Roady background?
I do own a road bike, but am selling it. although i may get another 🙂
    i started out on MTB’s.
I would have liked to try it in the woods but no time to ride that far out.
Perhaps i’m too soft for a fat bike. 😛

Bikes i might add in the future.

2014 Norco fluid 9.1 if you can find one around
    fluid 9.1
i went to Evans to test ride a much more expensive bike but had to wait for it to be built up so i test rode the fluid to kill some time, i liked it so much i got it instead and saved £700 or so over what i was going to spend. I think i spent £1500.

I like the look of these…..

    Ooooh

Takes chunky tyres and a rear rack and i think a set of mud guards should fit too.

the norco is called Death bike for Seany (i had a bad accident on it after 1 week of ownership )
Road bike is called Bluey ( its a Blue & for sale )

    Ex bikes…
Cotic solaris was called Norman (now my nephews bike but he hasn’t named it i don’t think)
Niner air 9 was mucky pup.

They look a little bargain basement, also check out catrike, the villager looks like it should have ground clearance for a bit of off road, and also ice trikes adventure, they are a bit spendy though.

22-30-40t & 11-36t on mt 29er full sus, feels spot on, i have 1 x 10 on my jones, 34t & 11-36t, its possible to climb most stuff on it but it takes a lot out of me and makes it harder to be recovered for multiple days on the bike, I’m about to change it to a triple.
I would rather have more easier gears than a ultra light bike to improve climbing abilities.

I got a Norco Fluid from Evans for £1500, it rides great, has a good spec & looks pretty nice too imo.

I use it for trails that knock me around too much when i ride them on my rigid bike.
