Most tape can be dipped in mild soapy water (fairy liquid) then applied much easier.
However this is probably what you were asking for, its good stuff but certainly not enough for full bike unless you split the wide bit…

thanks smiff, think the pitch is a bit shorter in the top tube if what im reading is correct which would be ok with me but then ive read they come up small so maybe smaller out the saddle than the pitch?
Pitch was always quite a long bike

AA were pretty good for me, better than m&s in price.

used float fluid in mine, partly because i had some and partly because thats what fox use when doing theirs

    seanodav

left mine in and lube was enough, just do them now and then. It’s also a good chance to have a look to see if any shite has got past

Ok just checked mine to take a photo and i must of dreamt the indent as i dont have one either.
However ive never had trouble lifting the seals with a small screwdriver wrapped in tape, just wiggle it underneath.
Cant do much damage to the seal at point you are levering just be carefull the driver doesnt slip up the stanchion

They come up really easy once you get underneath, try butter knife?
i have 2010 model and mine has an indent strangely enough :?:

really is that simple just be carefull not too scratch stantion.
Turn it upside down to prevent any shite dropping inside.
Once wiper seal is popped up the foam-rubbery ring will just slide up stantion, squirt fluid onto the ring all the way around using syringe.

There should be a little indent on fork leg where you can get a small screwdriver under seal, just cover driver with a little sparkys tape or similar

Also when you push wiper seal back in, seat the bit near arch first to make sure its in all the way

Try turning them upside down and gently lifting wiper seal out and up the stantion. There is a little rubbery type ring under that which comes from the factory dry as a bone. Either lube that with some float fluid or similar or cut it out completely (i lubed mine).
    This comes recommended from windwave..

Hold them on the bearing then push the frame over the top, another pair of hands helps

Not getting on with the charge spoon ive put on mine, i find the pointy bits on the back snag your shorts way worse than the sdg bel air it replaced, to the point im thinking or changing mine.

^^^ ahwiles +1 if they are to grippy its hard to repostion foot, especially heading downhill on rocky rough stuff.
with spds your foot is always locked in correct place, not much fun being locked with wrong foot postion.

I use swampy up front with high roller on the back, this is becoming nearly all year round unfortunately

32mm socket for 32 forks, pop the seals in the freezer first. makes life easier as they can be real tight.

Do them yourself, pikes are very easy to service.

But why has limited time, effort and resources been used to slightly wiggle the trail? I doubt anyone comes back and says those extra wiggles in the that short climb really made my ride.

Probably hasnt been wiggled for your pleasure, more likely to prevent it becoming a fall line for water causing it to fail.

if they are full of shite it will cause problems within the 3 year warranty, which will get you a free service at least.
One thing you could do is lift the seals carefully and lube the foam inside as they are dry from factory, then leave them be.

I had a bit of a siezed bolt in my pitch frame, no amount of hitting with a hammer would shift it.
It was a hollow bolt so pulled it out with a slide hammer, maybe worth a try if yours is also hollow.

^^^ what david said + windwaves service price is fairly low from what i gather, so not worth the hassle by the time you buy the seals, oil etc

20 quid labour is well worth it imo, i do my own and that price would save a fair bit of hassle if you dont have bearing puller.

At a guess the shops will probably just send it away. Evans has it’s own service centre i think but still needs sent away.

Not sure i bought a coil, think loco quoted about 50 quid for an rp2 can.

Then of course you need a seal kit..
could get it done under warrenty if its still within it

Thats what mine did, with no apparant stuck down symtoms but it deformed the gland as well at the same time. never noticed until i tried to replace the wiper seal and it wouldnt seat square right around.

    seanodav

looks to me like the gland it sits on may be distorted, if it is its new aircan time
