‘Tis a good forum layout all-in-all.

I have found myself reading of things that, if they had been lost into sub-fora, I’d not have paid any attention to as they were on a subject I’d not be actively looking for.

47 now. 20 years left on mortgage.

Thank god I’m not the only one, 43 with 22 years left to run. 8O
If I’m lucky then some over paying may be done along the way.

I know its an evil pharmaceutical but Brufen (ibuprofen) works on my very occasional spasmy back.

It’s one of the small stabby nasty pains that goes away soon after chomping down a 400mg dose. I can then get moving normally.

I splashed out the princely sum of £20 quid on a OS getamap sub.

So I print out pocket size maplets, and laminate them at work when no one is looking.

That and a compass do me well.

Although I do fancy getting one of the cheap garmins. would help me with the type of riding I do.

I got exactly that one and it does it’s job pretty well.

Nice and sturdy, no trouble handling our three bikes. Is a bit of an effort to unfold and set the arms and supports to the desired angle, but conversely that makes it good and solid. Well high and away from the plate and lights. On our Forester it’s a bit up in the clouds.

The arms are wee bit on the wide side, makes it tricky getting smaller framed/fatter tubed bikes on there, but it can be done.

Just watch out for the side straps, though. If you rove the straps the wrong way it can make wee marks (oops.. my fault).

I managed a ten miles through the dales without the bottom straps done up!

This, in a perverse way, is good reading. I’m probably going to order a new car after the winter. No idea what yet. But having the knowledge about dealing with the dealers and fighting delays is great.

Hmm, interesting. There’s a couple of spots I know where a short hike/push/portage would connect two BW’s nicely… I wonder if that’s technically allowed?

    One for the lawyers mebe?

Maybe that’s easier for you that it is for some, myself included. That makes me weak willed, not lazy.

Weeksy – I have to be honest with you, no amount of will power can get me past a good cake without damage 8O

Not a super bargain but a pair for Mavic Crossride for £80. Mint condition, only used for turbo trainer duty (W???).

FSA carbon seat post for £5!

Have taken to using Goofbid.com to put in sniper bids, as at work the bandwidth is too slow. Works great.

Not liking things poked in my ear I hunted about and now have a pair of Koss Sporta Pro.

    Facts:
    They are ugly.
    They were cheap.
    They are ugly.
    They are comfy.
    They sound great.
They have a proper liftime warranty.
    They are ugly.
They have an over the top, or round the back headband.
They are ugly. But you can’t see them when you have them on your head, unless you are a snail.

During the night (my day) – drive a drillship.

Drive being a silly description cause we have to keep in the same spot. The details are boring (HA!)

Clerks (then go on a Kevin Smith athon)

Clerks 2 after you’ve watched Clerks (surprisingly good for a sequel).

    Bravo.

Apologies if these have already been mentioned, on a Sci-Fi trend (Non-Alien!):

Primer – but you will have to watch it more than once, complex time travel plot.
Pitch Black – Vin Diesel ( :o ) low budget actioner.

Dieting = weight control for lazy people.

Go on then wonderboy, tell me how i’m lazy. I do 1 hr’s cardio 5 days a week and 3-4 hours at the weekend. I train hard, ride hard. I can be found doing 12 hour enduro events… but i’m lazy ?

Ooops, sorry if that’s a sore point, but I’ve never rarely found the need for dieting in the general sense of the word. Wonderboy? Hardly.

My job is sedentary – can’t avoid that, that’s how I pay the bills.

So I avoid the bad foods – fatty sugary carby. Eat things that are coloured differently. And have portion sizes that are in ratio to the size of me. Don’t drink much, a bottle of wine/couple of beers a week. Certainly never eaten according to any plan.

Hit the gym for an hour of high intensity cardio every day, when at work (7 days weeks for 3 weeks at a stretch). When home on leave I’m rarely sat down during the day – a generally busy bee.

I’m 43, 1.78m and about 76Kg, +- a couple. Works for me. All in all – calories in = calories out.

Sorry if my little joke was misconstrued. Maybe one of these  should have been used.

Had but three G-shocks over the last 20 years, one lost, one the strap pin holes wore through, and now this beauty:

    Big clear numbers, simple display.

Thankfully, Mrs Seadog will buy anything she deires when it is needed, and book times away when we can afford the cost/time.

This means I am at a constant loss as to what to get her for birthday/xmas/annivers.. She understands this and expects nothing for me apart from the soppy love/commitment stuff

Bloke round our way has some tasty bikes in his garage. I know as I’ve walked past when the door was open.

It’s a fairly bog standard tin foil door, but has one of those security bolts on the driveway.

Along with the Commencal stickers on his car he’s kind of advertising his bikes to all the local scrotes. ?? .

We had Everest come to quote for replacing our door. All lovely and secure, but at £8000 [!!!!], which we whittled down to a measley £5000. Still, good ground anchors and not advertising the fact I think will be cheaper.

On a technical note yes: Ghost 6000 ltd.

Other bike is a pile of components that if assembled would have six wheels, eight tyres, two forks, two chainsets, three stems, two bars, two seat post but one saddle (ouch), dual brakes on the F+R, a 19ft chain and a 25speed cassette, probably four mech’s too.

    [edit] OOPS double post…

Like a lot of people I’m convinced. I can see that if you’re big/tall it could help with building a bike with better geometry, rolls along better on certain tracks….blah blah…

And now that those who can afford it have bought into the trend, along comes a nice 650b…..

Fitted mine with the cheapest no name chinese circular piece of rubber I could buy at Halfords.

They work remarkably well at the are so perfectly round (odd innit). I have some Geax slicks on the other bike, and they are a bit to wobbly to use smoothly.

Seen a very nice one done by a builder who cut a trench in a garage floor then used concrete to set in a U shaped piece of gas pipe (about 3″ dia). Then a bendy wire coat hanger was used to thread through a meaty length of security chain.

All for an extra £20 when he was round doing some other work.

I have an Orange O2 of the first geneation Circa 1996. Currently undergoing a very slow rebuild into a SS.

I only bought a new bike last year as the lack of disc mounts on the O2 stopped me upgrading to better stoppage methods.

Not expensive or flash – but my Specialized Tahoe are holding up just fine.

Chosen as they were super comfy, stiff enough to work well, but still soft enough to walk in (which do a fair bit – hangs head and looks away)

My SatNav – admittedly only used on the longer trips speedier trips is still a depressing 37mph – mpg not known but isn’t that good at no better than 35mpg (Forester 2.0)/

And don’t forget people, the odometers in your car (electric/tripcompuetrs/mechanical) are giving you higher than actual figures (’tis the law), by up to 10%. Thus the MPG off the computer are similarly actually worse than it’s telling you. (grumble grumble mutter mutter)

Buy a frame and wheels, build a bike with it all and either be spoilt for choice or sell it all together…?
